The Tölz Christmas market
The Tölz Christmas market is one of the largest and most traditional Advent markets in the region. From the end of November until Christmas Eve, the market street in the historic old town is transformed into a festive sea of lights. Artfully painted houses rise up to the left and right and frame the market in an atmospheric setting. The hillside location offers an impressive view from the top, where a large Christmas tree is set up, over the entire market down to the Isar. The only disadvantage: you need to be careful in snow and ice! The icy slope can quickly become slippery.
However, a visit is worthwhile for young and old in any weather: children can enjoy a carousel and a small supporting program, while adults can enjoy the cosy atmosphere and stroll around the market.
Traditional craftspeople present their work
Exhibitors present their wide range of products in around 40 wooden stalls. Numerous craftsmen and artists sell their wares such as handmade jewelry or carved figures. With a bit of luck, you might even see a traditional craftsman at work. If you’re still looking for a Christmas present for your loved ones, you’re sure to find it here.
There is also plenty of culinary variety: in addition to mulled wine and sausages, visitors can enjoy roasted almonds, chocolate fruits and other treats.
Hiking region Tölzer Land
The Tölzer Land is also a true paradise for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. Numerous hiking trails invite you to go winter hiking and lead along the Isar and over the surrounding mountains through the beautiful Alpine foothills.
