+ More information

In the Chiemsee-Alpenland region, located between Munich and Salzburg, Bavaria shows its most beautiful side. The diverse landscape is embedded in the hilly Alpine foothills of the Chiemgau and Inntal Alps. Imposing mountains with lush green alpine meadows, enticing lakes, moors and rivers as well as picturesque villages with genuine Bavarian tradition — you will find all of this in the Chiemsee-Alpenland. Discover the cultural diversity of the region and not least the “Bavarian Sea”, Lake Chiemsee. Ice-age glaciers once shaped the landscape here. If you look to the south, you will see the breathtaking Alpine chain that leads on to Austria and Italy. If you look to the north, a lovely Alpine foothills landscape with hills and bathing lakes, forests, moors and flower meadows spreads out before you.

Small guide: Chiemsee-Alpenland

On our tours in the Chiemsee-Alpenland region, the focus is not only on the beautiful mountain panorama, but also on Germany’s second largest inland lake. Look forward to numerous seaside resorts, natural beaches and bathing lakes. In summer, it’s worth taking a break to swim and refresh yourself. In spring and fall, numerous sun-seekers flock to the shore to enjoy the magnificent view at a picnic or in one of the small beer gardens. You will also pass through traditional villages with baroque churches, old farmhouses and romantic orchards. You can not only discover Lake Chiemsee and the surrounding area by bike, but also explore the two islands in the “Bavarian Sea” on a boat trip (for example from Gstad or Prien). Herrenchiemsee is home to the magnificent palace of King Ludwig II, also known as the “New Herrenwörth Palace”. The palace was built from 1878 and is also known as “Little Versailles” as it was modeled on the original. Frauenchiemsee, the second largest of the three islands, is permanently inhabited and an inspiring place for artists and poets to take a creative break. The church of the Benedictine convent is open to visitors. Guided tours are also available.

Further highlights in the Chiemsee-Alpenland:

Almost every vacationer knows Herrenchiemsee Castle in Chiemsee or Fraueninsel. But have you ever been to Wasserburg am Inn or the Rosenheim Cops in Rosenheim? Or have you experienced the view from the summit of the Kampenwand or the Wendelstein? The Chiemsee-Alpenland region offers a variety of top sights that can be combined with an active vacation in the region:
