Combine the charming water views of the Lake Constance Cycle Path with the Danube Cycle Path? Is that possible? And how: by bike on the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path. The 156-kilometre route is signposted throughout and winds its way through towns and villages in the heart of Upper Swabia. The former imperial city of Ulm is an ideal starting point. It offers numerous sights with its museums, half-timbered buildings and the soaring cathedral. A city with manye Always following the signs, we head southwest on good tarred roads. The small river Riß takes us to Biberach a.d. Riß, which spoils its guests with a picturesque market square ensemble. The tradition-steeped historic town is not long behind us before the twin towers of St. Peter’s collegiate church herald the arrival of the Bad Waldsee mud spa and its amenities. Incidentally, this is also a great destination for an excursion. On the undulating route to Wangen im Allgäu, museum lovers should visit both the Wolfegg Farmhouse Museum and the three-storey New Kißlegg Castle. The region has so much to offer. The large district town of Wangen im Allgäu is known for its traditional weekly market, which is given a fitting backdrop by the listed old town center. The historic image with its painted towers, fountains and baroque facades is quickly replaced by an appealing meadow landscape. On the last few kilometers, the ride through the region leads through quiet villages and green woodland until the terrain finally slopes down and the long-distance cycle path, lined with fruit orchards, heads towards its destination of Lake Constance. On some stages of the route, muscle power and sporting spirit are required. These efforts are rewarded with fantastic views and numerous places to stop for refreshments, offering peace and relaxation, Upper Swabian cultural delights and much more.
