On the sou­thern side of the Alps, the lei­su­re­ly Drau Cycle Path runs for 510 km from Dob­bia­co in South Tyrol to Varaz­din in Croa­tia along the river of the same name, the Dra­va. On the sec­tion from Dob­bia­co to Lake Klo­pei­ner See, you cycle along the Aus­tri­an part of the long-distance cycle rou­te in Car­in­thia. Sou­thern sere­ni­ty and joie de viv­re, cul­tu­ral wealth and authen­tic cui­sine await you on the rou­te through sou­thern Car­in­thia. Various lakes along the way invi­te you to rest and swim. The Drau Cycle Path starts spec­ta­cu­lar­ly in the midd­le of the Dolo­mi­tes not far from the world-famous “Three Peaks”. The rou­te of the cycle path leads through rural cul­tu­ral land­scapes and small vil­la­ges, past Lienz, Spit­tal an der Drau, Vil­lach and Ferlach/St.Margareten. The ADFC (All­ge­mei­ner Deut­scher Fahr­rad-Club) has award­ed the Aus­tri­an sec­tion of the Drau cycle path the hig­hest rating of 5 stars. Fur­ther infor­ma­ti­on on the award can be found here.

Direc­tions for the Drau cycle path:

The­re are always train sta­ti­ons along the way that allow you to shor­ten the respec­ti­ve stage. The rou­te is well sign­pos­ted and lar­ge­ly asphal­ted. For long stret­ches, you also cycle on the easi­ly navigab­le embank­ment paths of the river, undis­tur­bed by traf­fic. The­re are also ple­nty of oppor­tu­ni­ties to rest and lin­ger along the route.

Who is the Drau cycle path sui­ta­ble for? 
The sec­tion from Alta Pus­te­ria to Kla­gen­furt is par­ti­cu­lar­ly sui­ta­ble for fami­lies with child­ren and for novice cyclists. The Drau is your con­stant com­pa­n­ion on the cycle path. Along the way, seve­ral bathing lakes invi­te you to take a refres­hing dip in the cool water. If you pre­fer, you can also sim­ply enjoy the suns­hi­ne on the shores of Lake Klo­pein, Lake Mill­statt*, Lake Ossi­ach*, Lake Faak or Lake Wör­ther­see*. (*can be rea­ched via detours) 
The offi­ci­al start of the Drau cycle path is in Tob­lach in South Tyrol and runs through East Tyrol, sou­thern Car­in­thia, Mari­bor in Slove­nia to Varaz­din in Croa­tia. If you cycle this enti­re rou­te, you will visit 4 dif­fe­rent count­ries (Ita­ly, Aus­tria, Slove­nia and Croatia).
