Crossing the Alps, On the pulse of the Alps, Tegernsee, Kitzbühel

Hikes along the Salzalpensteig trail organized by Feuer und Eis Touristik. Perfectly planned and organized.

We at Feuer und Eis Touristik come from Lake Tegernsee. So what could be more natural than starting a crossing of the Alps right on our doorstep? Which we did in 2018. Since then, thousands of happy hikers have followed us on our classic route from Tegernsee to Kitzbühel. “Our” original route leads — as the name suggests — directly to the pulse of the Alps. To the southern lakes of Munich, Tegernsee and Schliersee. To Kufstein, known as “the pearl on the Inn”. To the Bergdoktorhaus on the Wilder Kaiser. And finally to the “chamois town” of Kitzbühel with the famous Streif. In terms of walking times, altitude and technical difficulties, but also in terms of refreshment stops and overnight stays — on this Alpine cross on foot, we always write “enjoyment” in capital letters. On the six stages, hikers can expect between 11 and 23 kilometers and 300 to 1000 meters of altitude difference every day. And in the evening, you can look forward to a cozy three- or four-star hotel.

As befits our classic Alpine crossing, we have tailored the tour perfectly to every requirement. The route from Tegernsee to Kitzbühel is as varied in terms of scenery and culture as your options are varied: individually or guided by a certified mountain guide, with luggage transfer from hotel to hotel or without, and the CHARME option with particularly comfortable hotels in the 4*-5* category for the more discerning. One tour, countless possibilities for you!

Always included: In addition, we have automatically integrated the Feuer und Eis travel protection (accident and mountain rescue insurance) for you in the travel price and are always available for you (even on tour) via our 7‑day carefree service hotline!

The Salzalpensteig stretches over 250 kilometers from Chiemgau through Berchtesgadener Land to the picturesque World Heritage region of Hallstatt. Salt is deeply rooted in the history of this region and is accompanied on the hike from its extraction to its transportation. Salt was once known as “white gold”, as the salt ration “salarium” for Roman legionaries shows. The visitor mines offer impressive insights into salt extraction.

For centuries, salt deposits brought prosperity and cultural prosperity. The hike promises an adventure amidst fascinating natural scenery with waterfalls, lakes and alpine paths. You can hike the Salzalpensteig in three variants: Chiemsee to Königssee, Königssee to Hallstatt or the entire route in 13 days.
