What could be nicer than leaving your familiar surroundings in the mild summer temperatures and exploring new paths?

We now know that the quickest and most effective way to slow down and relax is through exercise in nature. We would therefore like to present three wonderful cycle tours through Upper Bavaria for all cycling enthusiasts looking for relaxation. Because the biking conditions in Upper Bavaria are ideal: there is always a refreshing lake nearby, the impressive landscape invites you to daydream and the nearest beer garden is usually not far away either. There is something for every taste on one of the three loops. You can choose between the “Hopfen-Schleife”, the “Salz-Schleife” and the “Kunst-Schleife”.

On the hop loop, you start in Munich and travel north through the English Garden along the Isar to Freising. There, a visit to the world’s oldest existing brewery, the Weihenstephan state brewery, is a must. The route continues through the largest contiguous hop-growing area in the world, the Hallertau cultural landscape. The German Hop Museum can also be found here. The approximately 270 km of this tour are entirely dedicated to the art of brewing.

The route of the Salt Loop heads south-east. The white gold is omnipresent here and the history of salt mining and trade can be traced back along the rivers Inn and Salzach. Pass through towns shaped by the salt trade such as Traunstein, Burghausen, Rosenheim, Wasserburg and Mühldorf. Lake Chiemsee invites you to swim or take a boat trip. Your cycle tour ends on day 9 after 395 km and you return to your starting point in Munich with great impressions and many new experiences.
For art and culture lovers, the Art Loop, which takes you from Munich to the southwest, is the right choice. The south-western loop of the Water Cycle Path runs for around 340 km between Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can expect a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sisi’s home scenery, numerous monasteries and castles and great masterpieces of art. This route also has some scenic highlights to offer with the Walchensee, Tegernsee and Starnberger See lakes. As this route passes through Oberammergau and the Oberammergau Passion Play will take place there in summer 2020, bookings here are only possible on request.

Whether for trained cyclists or hobby bikers, the Upper Bavaria water cycle trails are a trip for every type of cyclist that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Take a break from everyday life on one of the three loops, or combine the various options to create your perfect cycling vacation. Enjoy the culinary delights of the different regions, immerse yourself in the cultural highlights and return home with lots of new impressions!
