We have checked out all the individual sporty mountain experiences, high alpine trekking tours and bike routes from the Fire and Ice travel offer: these hiking and cycling tour suggestions are perfect for this in 2025.

Crossing the Alps with a difference

Crossing the Alps once — a goal that is at the top of many people’s wish lists. The TIROLERWEG is just the thing for those who like to explore new paths, challenge themselves and travel individually. In 7 days, it leads from Garmisch via the remote Karwendel to Innsbruck — covering 5000 meters in altitude. Highlights include impressive gorges, narrow paths, rustic huts for overnight stays and, as the crowning glory, the high-altitude trail on the Nordkette high above the Golden Roof.

Incidentally, there is also a special variant of the classic Alpine crossing, the E5. This covers a distance of 81 kilometers from Oberstorf to Merano, covering an altitude difference of almost 6000 meters. This trip can also only be booked as an individual hike, with overnight stays in hotels, luggage transport and some cable car rides included.

Alpine hiking experience is necessary for both trips — surefootedness, a head for heights and a good level of fitness are required.

Swiss Bear Trek — Grandiose glaciers, spectacular passes

Long-distance hiking on the Via Alpina, not a walk in the park but a unique route through valleys and gorges, past the three imposing giants Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau to Adelboden-Lenk. There are no more bears in the area — the route owes its name “Bear Trek” to the fact that it was once only passable by wild animals. With alpine experience, the 95-kilometre-long long-distance trail with 6000 meters of altitude difference can be conquered in 8 days. The highlight, and at the same time the royal stage, is the long, steep ascent to Hohtürli, where Swiss delicacies await at the Blüemlisalphütte at 2843 meters. The moraines of the Blüemlisalp glacier then guide you downhill to the impressive Oeschinensee — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps.

New sporting adventures on 2 wheels

For those who prefer to travel by bike, we recommend the cycle tour from Munich to Venice. This 510-kilometre route combines cycling enjoyment with a crossing of the Alps to the Adriatic. On cycle paths, cycle routes or small side roads, the route takes you through three countries, from the Bavarian lakes and rivers via the Tyrolean Inn Valley, old railroad lines in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site and via Treviso to the Doge’s Palaces and canals of the lagoon city of Venice. The challenging section between Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass is covered by train.

If you don’t mind cycling 1000 meters in altitude a day and are happy to cycle past the sights, you should take a closer look at the challenging route from Lake Constance to Königssee. Probably the most beautiful cycle route in Bavaria takes you across the hilly foothills of the Alps in 8 days with comfortable luggage transfers — including charming views of the Alps. Idyllic lakes beckon on hot days and provide the perfect refreshment along the way.

A different sporting challenge awaits cyclists in the Allgäu: new, different and without beginning or end. The Allgäu Cycle Tour is a 476-kilometre long-distance cycle route that doesn’t take you from one point to the next, but literally takes you through a region with its stories, personalities and different landscapes. Mainly on asphalt, the route leads through six districts in Bavaria, neighboring Baden-Württemberg and Tyrol. A real experience with or without luggage transfer — for all those who like to explore off the beaten track.
