The 5 Rivers Cycle Path is a varied and pic­tures­que cycle rou­te in the Upper Pala­ti­na­te, which leads through a beau­tiful land­scape for around 298 kilo­me­ters. The cycle path runs along the Naab, Vils, Peg­nitz, Alt­mühl and Danu­be rivers, lin­king idyl­lic vil­la­ges, his­to­ric towns such as Regens­burg and Neu­markt as well as num­e­rous natu­ral and cul­tu­ral high­lights. Ide­al for cyclists of all levels, the rou­te offers flat sec­tions as well as gent­le hills and leads through natu­re reser­ves, char­ming old towns and tran­quil river val­leys. The 5 Rivers Cycle Path is per­fect for a rela­xing acti­ve vaca­ti­on and offers a per­fect mix of natu­re expe­ri­en­ces, his­to­ri­cal sights and sport­ing challenges.

Day 2
Regens­burg — Kelheim
Distanz: 38 km Höhe (+): 110m Höhe (-): 100m
The start­ing point is the UNESCO World Heri­ta­ge city of Regens­burg with its medieval alley­ways and squa­res. Up the Danu­be, the cycle rou­te runs through the spa town of Bad Abbach to the town of Kel­heim, known for its migh­ty Libe­ra­ti­on Hall, visi­ble from afar, and the baro­que Asam monas­tery of Wel­ten­burg on the Danu­be gorge. 
Day 3
Kel­heim — Berching
Distanz: 55 km Höhe (+): 230m Höhe (-): 180m
From Kel­heim, the tour leads through the Alt­mühl­tal val­ley into the regi­on’s eventful past: Bava­ria’s lar­gest archaeo­lo­gy park brings a bygo­ne era to life and dis­plays finds from the Nean­der­thal era and other pre­his­to­ric epochs.

Ber­ching — Nuremberg
Distanz: 68 km Höhe (+): 210m Höhe (-): 300m
Indus­tri­al heri­ta­ge land­scape on the canal The town of Ber­ching is a well-pre­ser­ved gem from the Midd­le Ages. From here, the cycle path fol­lows the Lud­wig-Danu­be-Main Canal, one of the most inte­res­t­ing indus­tri­al monu­ments in Ger­ma­ny. Today, the canal is a lis­ted buil­ding. Natu­re has reclai­med its ter­rain and crea­ted a uni­que cul­tu­ral landscape. 
Day 5
Nurem­berg — Amberg
Distanz: 74 km Höhe (+): 470m Höhe (-): 390m
From the old impe­ri­al city of Nurem­berg, the rou­te leads into the love­ly Peg­nitz val­ley. Fol­lo­wing in the foot­s­teps of the Gol­den Road, who­se ori­g­ins go back to Emper­or Charles IV, the cycle rou­te runs through the breath­ta­king land­scape of the Fran­co­ni­an Alb and pret­ty half-tim­be­red towns to the Ruhr regi­on of the Midd­le Ages with its magni­fi­cent cen­ters of Sulz­bach-Rosen­berg and Amberg.

Amberg — Regensburg
Distanz: 62 km Höhe (+): 420m Höhe (-): 470m
Baro­que monas­te­ries and magni­fi­cent churches invi­te you to lin­ger from Amberg. The works of regio­nal artists and world-famous sculp­tors and pain­ters from the Midd­le Ages and modern times are lined up along the Vils and Naab rivers. The tran­quil artists’ vil­la­ge of Kall­münz nest­les pic­tures­que­ly against a ver­ti­cal cliff face, with a gigan­tic cast­le ruin towe­ring high abo­ve it.

Your jour­ney to the start­ing point in Regens­burg is indi­vi­du­al. CAR: You can reach the city from the north and south via the A93, from the west and east via the A3. RAIL: Regens­burg main sta­ti­on is very well con­nec­ted to the long-distance and regio­nal Deut­sche Bahn net­work. FLIGHT: The nea­rest air­ports are: Munich Air­port (approx. 100 km, approx. 11.5 hours’ dri­ve) / Nurem­berg Air­port (approx. 110 km, approx. 1.5 hours’ drive)

Other notes
To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. This tour is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with redu­ced mobility. 
Par­king

We only offer e‑bikes (trek­king bikes) for hire. Access­ories such as pan­niers, cell pho­ne hol­ders or simi­lar are available on request and at an extra char­ge. Your ren­tal bike is at your dis­po­sal from the day of arri­val to the day of depar­tu­re. If you book addi­tio­nal nights after the tour, addi­tio­nal cos­ts may be incur­red if you wish to con­ti­nue using the bike on the­se days.

No mat­ter how well plan­ned a trip is, in rare cases unex­pec­ted things hap­pen. At such times, it’s nice to have someone you can rely on on site.
