Adige Cycle Route — From Innsbruck to Verona — classic

Price on request

From the basin of the Alpine metropolis of Innsbruck, you cycle upstream into one of the most fascinating regions in the heart of the Alps, as the Inn cycle path winds its way, nestled in the majestic Tyrolean mountains, to the fountain town of Imst and on to Landeck. A transfer takes you up the ascent to Nauders on the Reschen Pass. From Lake Reschen in South Tyrol, the Adige cycle path takes you along the playful river through the lush fruit-growing landscapes of the sun-drenched Vinschgau Valley via the spa town of Merano to the Castelfeder vacation region. The vineyards exude a southern flair, blending into the landscape in sweeping lines and allowing the South Tyrolean lowlands to merge seamlessly into Trentino. Flanked by rugged porphyry walls to the left and gentle olive groves to the right, the Adige cycle path makes its way purposefully to Verona, the city that resembles a cultural picture book and has already served as a magical stage for Shakespeare’s myth of Romeo and Juliet.

Itinerary / Stages

Individual arrival in Innsbruck
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Welcome to the 3‑time Olympic city. While the Alpine city is known far and wide as a popular winter sports destination with a very special flair, you will be surprised by the colorful ambience that awaits you here in the warm season. So make sure you allow yourself enough time to enjoy Innsbruck’s cultural diversity.
Innsbruck — Imst
Distanz: 60 km Höhe (+): 519m Höhe (-): 311m
The Inn Cycle Path from St. Moritz in Switzerland to Passau in Germany measures an impressive 500 kilometers. The route follows a few kilometers of this international cycle path, which is surrounded by imposing mountains but is nevertheless almost completely flat, first to the famous Cistercian monastery of Stams and from there on to the Tyrolean rafting and canyoning center of Haiming. This is followed by a slightly uphill, romantic section through a beautiful pine forest, where you can also visit the newly renovated Roman baths near Roppen. After the refreshment — at least for the calves — the route continues along the increasingly narrow Inn Valley to the fountain town of Imst.
Imst — Lake Reschen & Upper Vinschgau vacation region
Distanz: 55 km Höhe (+): 441m Höhe (-): 902m
Well fortified, you first cycle from Imst to the district capital Landeck. From Landeck, an organized transfer will take you to Nauders, where you will cross the border to Italy and thus the main Alpine ridge a little later at the Reschen Pass. Cycle past the Reschen reservoir with one of the most famous photo motifs in South Tyrol — the sunken church tower of Altgraun — downhill towards Mals. Enjoy your first evening in South Tyrol in the old alleyways of the village.
Vacation region Lake Resia & Upper Venosta Valley — Merano
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 10m Höhe (-): 700m
Now it’s time to cross the entire Vinschgau Valley. The trail leads from around 1,200 m above sea level in Burgeis down to 350 m above sea level in Meran. You often follow the course of the Adige directly. From the starting point, this pleasure tour first leads down to Glurns, the smallest town in the Alps. Via the marble town of Lasa/Laas you then reach Naturno/Naturns and finally — past the striking Castelbello/Kastelbell Castle — the spa town of Merano/Meran. Relax here on an evening stroll along the Passer promenade amidst a subtropical world of plants.
Merano — Castelfeder vacation region
Distanz: 50 km Höhe (+): 398m Höhe (-): 483m
There is much to marvel at along this route: the famous Schnatterpeck altar in the church in Niederlana, the highest church tower in South Tyrol in Terlan and numerous castles and ruins on both sides of the valley. And — after the opportunity for a short detour to South Tyrol’s capital Bolzano, Lake Kaltern offers a first-class opportunity to cool off any tired cyclists’ legs.
Castelfeder — Trento vacation region
Distanz: 50 km Höhe (+): 209m Höhe (-): 256m
The route continues along the Adige river through orchards to Salurn, where the German-speaking part of South Tyrol ends. The end of the stage is in Trento, where you are greeted by the very attractive old town with its cathedral and Buonconsiglio Castle.
Trento — Belluno Veronese and surroundings
Distanz: 55 km Höhe (+): 213m Höhe (-): 277m
Along the canals of the Adige River, the route today leads very pleasantly through small towns such as Rovereto and Pilcante to Avio or the small village of Belluno Veronese. Gourmets say that the finest wine in Italy has been grown here since the 15th century. Although this region is less than 10 kilometers from Lake Garda as the crow flies, it is largely untouched by tourists. Enjoy the tranquillity of your stopover with a good glass of wine.
Belluno Veronese and surroundings — Verona
Distanz: 50 km Höhe (+): 318m Höhe (-): 385m
With Verona virtually in sight, there is another small climb to conquer before you reach the city of Romeo & Juliet. Have fun strolling, discovering, in the arena or simply enjoying yourself
Individual journey home or extension
