Allgäu cycle tour: classic with luggage transfer starting in Wangen

from 1.228,- per person

It is new, it is different, it has no beginning and no end: the Allgäu Cycle Tour. This 476-kilometer long-distance cycle route sets new standards. Because unlike the well-known river routes, this is not about a tour from one point to the next, but about literally cycling through a region with its stories, personalities and different landscapes. The product was created as a joint effort by 14 Allgäu towns and advertising associations, the four Allgäu districts and other tourism partners who have joined forces in the Bicycle Business Area Group under the leadership of Allgäu GmbH. The Allgäu Cycle Tour leads through six districts in Bavaria, neighboring Baden-Württemberg and Tyrol on 476 mostly asphalted kilometers. On and directly next to the path are not only world-famous sights such as Neuschwanstein Castle, but also the birthplaces and places of activity of renowned personalities such as the water doctor Sebastian Kneipp. Pretty, baroque towns such as Bad Wurzach, Wangen and Isny invite you to linger. Dreamy villages at the foot of bizarre mountain peaks tell stories of a long, respectful relationship between man and the mountains. The focus of the cycle tour is on enjoyment. In order to meet individual requirements, two axes — the Iller and Allgäu cycle paths — provide a total of nine possible routes. Every cyclist will find a route with a suitable elevation profile. In addition, the more than 50 stations along the route guarantee maximum flexibility. There is also a comprehensive network of e‑bike rental and charging stations. We also offer this tour with a start in Füssen

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Individual arrival Wangen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Arrive relaxed in Wangen and enjoy the day with a stroll through the picturesque old town.
Day 2
Wangen — Egloffs ‑Eisenharz — Isny — Lindenberg ‑Weiler
Distanz: 59 km Höhe (+): 710m Höhe (-): 610m
Your tour starts in Wangen im Allgäu. The picturesque and carefully restored town with its many historic buildings boasts one of the most beautiful streets in southern Germany. On today’s route, you first head towards Egloffs. The next few kilometers become more mountainous and strenuous. The cycle tour takes you to Isny and Maierhöfen. The glacier left behind rugged gorges and mysterious waterfalls. You will find further details in your travel documents. After Lindenberg you reach Scheidegg, which offers excellent weather conditions and great panoramic views. Your destination today is Weiler. From here, the athletic altitude challenges of your tour begin.
Day 3
Weiler — Stiefenhofen — Oberstaufen — Immenstadt — Ofterschwang — Sonthofen/Blaichach
Distanz: 73 km Höhe (+): 590m Höhe (-): 490m
The tour first takes you to Simmerberg, where the route becomes steeper and more winding. The villages of Oberreute, Stiefenhofen, Genhofen and Oberstaufen are your next destinations. The Nagelfluhkette with its mountain range of the same name to the south will now be at your side. Along the railroad tracks to the Großer Alpsee, on to Immenstadt and along the Iller to Bihlerdorf. Continue south and take a loop through the village of Ofterschwang, continuing towards Sonthofen via Fischen.
Day 4

Distanz: 75 km Höhe (+): 930m Höhe (-): 800m
Today’s stage is the longest and most challenging of all. The path along the idyllic riverbank just before the village of Rettenberg has a steep climb, which is a foretaste of the kilometers to come. The cycle circuit leads uphill to the Rottach reservoir. The effort is rewarded with a fantastic view of the entire Oberallgäu. The toughest climb awaits you from Habsbichl towards Unterjoch. You then pass the border to Austria, barely noticeable, and ride into the Tannheimer Tal valley towards Tannheim. You return to Germany along the Ach river through the forests and small gorges of the Achtal valley. The route is as varied as it is beautiful. Once again you experience the mountain panorama with its sometimes harsh climate before you reach Pfronten and thus today’s stage destination.
Day 5
Pfronten — Zell/Eisenberg — Hopfen a. See — Füssen — Rosshaupten — Marktoberdorf — Kaufbeuren
Distanz: 68 km Höhe (+): 370m Höhe (-): 550m
At the start of today’s stage, you are rewarded with a magnificent view. Passing several villages, you reach the castle ruins of Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg. Then it’s on to Hopfen am See. Along the riverside promenade, also known as the Riviera of the Allgäu, there are many cafés and restaurants with breathtaking panoramic views of the peaks of the Ammergau, Lechtal, Tannheim and Allgäu Alps. Fields and meadows accompany you all the way to Füssen, always with the best views of the mountains, and on to Forggensee. On the other side of the lake, the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau can be seen again and again. The cycle path now takes you to Marktoberdorf. Along the railroad tracks, the cycle tour reaches Kaufbeuren and thus the end of today’s stage.
Day 6
Kaufbeuren — Bad Wörishofen — Memmingen
Distanz: 74 km Höhe (+): 500m Höhe (-): 580m
Your day tour starts through Kaufbeuren’s old town and follows the Wertach towards Pforzen. After leaving the town after a few kilometers, you can take a short break at the Schlingen reservoir to enjoy the biotope with its many water birds. Over gentle climbs, forest and meadow paths and views of the distant mountain peaks, you reach the health town of Bad Wörishofen with its wide range of spa and wellness facilities inspired by the priest Sebastian Kneipp. Continuing through small hamlets, you follow the Kneipp cycle path, on which you will find numerous wayside crosses with thought-provoking sayings, until you reach Ottobeuren and are greeted by the imposing basilica of the former imperial abbey of Ottobeuren as you enter the town. The well-signposted cycle path takes you through Ottobeuren and on to the district town of Memmingen. Numerous restaurants and cafés await you in the historic old town.
Day 7
Memmingen — Bad Grönenbach — Leutkirch — Bad Wurzach
Distanz: 61 km Höhe (+): 510m Höhe (-): 460m
Today you leave Memmingen to the south and cycle through the market town of Bad Grönenbach, whose landmark is the High Castle. After Bad Grönenbach, you first have to overcome one of the first challenging climbs to get to Oberbinnwang and Unterbinnwang. Cycle along the River Iller to Illerbeuren, where you can immerse yourself in bygone eras at the farm museum. After a relaxed section of the route, followed by more hills, you reach Leutkirch. A beautiful panorama now accompanies you all the way to Bad Wurzach. The castle of Bad Wurzach, whose centerpiece is the staircase, is well worth a visit.

The route also takes you past a number of ponds where you can also swim, such as Holzmühleweiher. On the way from Wolfegg to Waldburg, on the hill of the Loreto Chapel, you have a good view of the Zugspitze massif and the Bernese Alps in good weather. Continue along the cycle route until you return to your starting point in Wangen with a wealth of impressions.
