Allgäu cycle tour: sporty without luggage transfer

from 678,- per person

You should be well trained for this cycling tour and be able to cover several kilometers a day. It is new, it is different, it has no beginning and no end: the Allgäu Cycle Tour. This 476-kilometer long-distance cycle route sets new standards. Because unlike the well-known river routes, this is not about a tour from one point to the next, but about literally cycling through a region with its stories, personalities and different landscapes. The product was created as a joint effort by 14 Allgäu towns and advertising associations, the four Allgäu districts and other tourism partners who have joined forces in the Bicycle Business Area Group under the leadership of Allgäu GmbH. The Allgäu Cycle Tour leads through six districts in Bavaria, neighboring Baden-Württemberg and Tyrol on 476 mostly asphalted kilometers. It does not connect place by place and city by city in a straight line. Instead, she immerses herself in the stories of the Allgäu, brings personalities to life and turns the landscape into a narrator. On and directly next to the path are not only world-famous sights such as Neuschwanstein Castle, but also the birthplaces and places of activity of renowned personalities such as the water doctor Sebastian Kneipp. Pretty, baroque towns such as Bad Wurzach, Wangen and Isny invite you to linger. Dreamy villages at the foot of bizarre mountain peaks tell stories of a long, respectful relationship between man and the mountains.

Itinerary / Stages

Journey to Wangen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Wangen im Allgäu is picturesquely nestled between the Lower Argen in the north and the Upper Argen in the south. Anyone strolling through the streets and narrow alleyways of the lovingly restored old town will be amazed by all the colors, shapes and pub signs. At the end of Herrenstraße is Wangen’s landmark, the Ravensburg Gate with its charming, characteristic corner turrets.
Wangen — Immenstadt / Blaichach
Distanz: 96 km Höhe (+): 1030m Höhe (-): 850m
Today’s stage starts in the picturesque village of Wangen, from where you cycle over hilly, green mountains past old farmhouses via Isny — always with the Nagelfuhkette mountain range in view — to Immenstadt. Shortly before Immenstadt, the cycle tour passes the beautifully situated Großer Alpsee lake.
Immenstadt / Blaichach — Pfronten
Distanz: 105 km Höhe (+): 1200m Höhe (-): 1030m
From Immenstadt, you cycle along the Nagelfuhkette Nature Park via Fischen and Sonthofen through hilly Alpine foothills along the Grünten to the Rottachsee lake. The route then continues uphill along the hills to Oy Mittelberg, then downhill again to Nesselwang and from there you cycle the last few kilometers to Pfronten at a leisurely pace, always with a view of the beautiful Alps.
Pfronten — Bad Wörishofen
Distanz: 88 km Höhe (+): 460m Höhe (-): 710m
Today you start over several hilltops and finally reach “Hopferau” and then the plain around the warm “Hopfensee”. With views of “Neuschwanstein” and the royal castles, you cycle into “Füssen”. The route continues along the shores of Lake Forggensee to Kaufbeuren, past rapeseed fields and traditional farming to Bad Wörishofen.
Bad Wörishofen — Leutkirch
Distanz: 100 km Höhe (+): 820m Höhe (-): 840m
Today’s cycle tour takes you through green fields with distant views of the mountain peaks. At Langenberg, the impressive basilica of Ottobeuren, where Kneipp was baptized, rises like out of nowhere. The route continues via Moosbach and Herbishofen, with wonderful views of the mountains as your constant companions, to Bad Grönenbach. A short stretch along the Iller followed by hills and meadows takes you to Leutkirch.
Leutkirch — Wangen
Distanz: 87 km Höhe (+): 790m Höhe (-): 860m
To the west of Leutkirch, you cycle leisurely through the idyllic Allgäu, just as you know it from many photos: crystal-clear streams babble through lush green meadows, making room here and there for a village or a tranquil small town. As far as Wangen, you always have the impressive jagged band of the Alps in view, which draws ever closer and seems close enough to touch.

This independent assessment according to defined criteria guarantees cyclists excellent routes with no nasty surprises. However, it is not just the quality of the route that is assessed. The service provided on the long-distance cycle routes is also assessed.
