Feuer und Eis partner tour

Alpe Adria — from Cividale to Trieste

from 849,- per person

The starting point of this hiking tour is Cividale del Friuli. The Alpe-Adria-Trail runs from Carinthia via Slovenia to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, making it a meeting point for three cultures. The Alpe-Adria-Trail has a lot to offer in terms of culture and scenery: from the pilgrimage site of Castelmonte to Cormons, Karst and Brda to the stage finish in the former Habsburg city of Trieste.

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Arrival in Cividale del Friuli
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Individual arrival at the starting hotel in Cividale del Friuli.
Day 2
Cividale del Friuli — Prepotto
Distanz: 22 km Höhe (+): 520m Höhe (-): 540m
The route from the Lombard town takes you to Castelmonte, the oldest sanctuary in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, in fact one of the oldest Christian sanctuaries. Today, enjoy the wonderful view over the Friuli plain and the Slovenian municipality of Brda. The shorter variant follows the official Alpe Adria Trail.
Day 3
Prepotto — Smartno and surroundings
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 620m Höhe (-): 460m
Today’s route takes you along the Italian-Slovenian border, past the vineyards of the Collio and numerous churches. At the end of the day, the small settlement of Smartno, the geographical center of the municipality of Brda, awaits you. Let your gaze wander from the Carnic Alps across the vast Friuli region to the Adriatic Sea.
Day 4
Smartno and surroundings — Cormons
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 550m
You leave Brda, the crossroads of three cultures (Slavic, Romanesque and Germanic), and return to the Friulian Collio. Surrounded by the vines of the famous DOC wines, as well as old and autochthonous grape varieties, which have played an increasingly important role in recent years, you reach Cormons with its Habsburg flair. This small town is now the cultural center of the Collio.
Day 5
Cormons — Gradisca d Isonzo
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 100m Höhe (-): 120m
From Cormons, you hike on through the hilly landscape of the Gorizia Collio with its vineyards to Gradisca. The name Gradisca has Slavic roots and means fortified place. Under Venetian rule at the end of the 15th century, it was developed into a fortress against the approaching Turkish threat from the east. Today, the town is dominated by the mighty castle. In the old town, you can taste and buy the finest wines of Friuli. Gradisca dIsonzo is located in the Collio wine region.
Day 6
Gradisca d Isonzo — Monfalcone — Duino/Sistiana
Distanz: 30 km Höhe (+): 670m Höhe (-): 650m
You leave Gradisca and the plain of the Isonzo region behind you and hike through the barren karst, characterized by many traces of the First World War. Numerous underground watercourses from the catchment area of the Isonzo share the route today (e.g. Doberdò del Lago) as well as the mouth of the Timavo River. At 2 km, this river is probably the shortest river in the world. The last section of the tour from Monfalcone to Duino/Sistiana can be shortened by bus (ticket not included). At the end of the day, Duino welcomes you with its castle of the same name.
Day 7
Duino/Sistiana — Trieste
Distanz: 24 km Höhe (+): 460m Höhe (-): 500m
The first part of the route follows the famous Rilke Trail, named after the German writer of the same name. The route continues as if on a terrace along the Karst to Prosecco and the capital of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, Trieste.
Day 8
Individual departure
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Individual departure or possibility of extension.
