The Alpe Adria cycle path across Slove­nia has a lot to offer. In addi­ti­on to the beau­tiful natu­re, the many towns worth see­ing are par­ti­cu­lar­ly exci­ting. After a short detour to the Ita­li­an bor­der town of Tar­vi­sio, you cycle on to Slove­nia. You stop at the fairy­ta­le Lake Bled at the foot of the Juli­an Alps. On this ride from the moun­ta­ins to the sea, you will get to know Vil­lach, Taris, Bled, Ljublja­na, Pos­to­j­na, Lipiz­za and Tri­es­te. The­re you will also dis­co­ver the world-famous stal­ac­ti­te caves of Pos­to­j­na and Lipiz­za — the place whe­re the Lipiz­za­ner hor­ses are bred — and many other gre­at towns, places and sights. On the last day, you will cycle to the for­mer Habs­burg port city of Trieste.

Against a stun­ning moun­tain back­drop, the River Gail sends you on an exci­ting jour­ney. Trees absorb the sur­roun­ding noi­se and you can enjoy idyl­lic views all around. The well-main­tai­ned cycle path clim­bs up to the bor­der. The­re it’s Ser­vus Aus­tria, Ciao Bel­la Ita­lia! The first gela­to is alre­a­dy waiting. 
Tar­vi­sio — Bled

You make your way to the Ita­li­an bor­der and con­ti­nue along the cycle path. You soon lea­ve Ita­ly again and enter Slove­nia. Pas­sing the famous ski resort of Kran­js­ka Gora, the cycle path leads through a beau­tiful and lar­ge­ly untouch­ed Slove­ni­an natu­ral land­scape. The­re is also an opti­on here to shor­ten the rou­te by about 10 km and a few meters in alti­tu­de by train. You spend the evening at the roman­tic lake of Bled. 
Bled — Ljubljana

Today you cycle from Bled to Ljublja­na, which has been the Euro­pean Green Capi­tal sin­ce 2016. You cycle through Rado­vlji­ca, a medieval town with a moat and views of the Kara­wan­ken and Juli­an Alps. You also cycle through Kranj, the capi­tal of the Slove­ni­an Alps and the cen­ter of the Goren­js­ka regi­on in Slove­nia. The old town of Kranj is one of the most beau­tiful in the coun­try and home to cul­tu­re and tra­di­ti­on. End the evening in a rela­xed atmo­sphe­re in Ljublja­na. The city­’s land­mark, the Dra­gon Bridge, is a must-see. 
Ljublja­na — Pistojna

You lea­ve the capi­tal Ljublja­na and cycle through idyl­lic and pic­tures­que vil­la­ges on quiet roads, sur­roun­ded by fields, green hills and farms through the town of Logatec to Pos­to­j­na. Today’s high­light is cer­tain­ly the Pos­to­j­na Cave, the second lar­gest dripstone cave in the world. It is the only karst cave with a cave rail­road that has been in ope­ra­ti­on for 140 years. During a 1.5‑hour gui­ded tour, this cave train will take you into the net­work of under­ground pas­sa­ges, gal­le­ries and halls. 
Pis­to­j­na — Lipizza

Your cycle tour today takes you from Pos­to­j­na to Lipiz­za (Lipi­ca), the home of the noble white hor­ses. Lipiz­za­ners have been bred here sin­ce 1580. The hor­ses beca­me famous through the Vien­na Riding School. On the way you cycle through Piv­ka, whe­re the Piv­ka Mili­ta­ry Histo­ry Park is loca­ted. Here you can gain a uni­que insight into Slove­ni­an and world history. 
Lipiz­za — Trieste
Distanz: 30 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
On the last day you cycle to the for­mer Habs­burg port city of Tri­es­te. The Val Rosan­dra near Pesek is beau­tiful here. You cycle along the for­mer rou­te of the Parenz­a­na nar­row-gau­ge rail­road. On this last stage, you hard­ly have to climb any more meters — you cycle gent­ly downhill towards the sea.

By car: Vil­lach is easy to reach via the A2, A10 or A11 high­ways (depen­ding on whe­re you are coming from). By train: good tra­vel opti­ons by train to Vil­lach. Time­ta­ble at www.deutschebahn.de, www.oebb.at, www.trenitalia.com By pla­ne: Kla­gen­furt, Salz­burg or Ljublja­na air­port. The­re are good train con­nec­tions to Vil­lach from all three places.

Cycle tour on cycle paths or along very quiet side roads through small vil­la­ges and idyl­lic land­scapes. The cycle tour is sui­ta­ble for child­ren aged 14 and over.

To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time.
