Dis­co­ver a refres­hing new ver­si­on of the Alpi­ne crossing: the first part is quie­ter and less stre­nuous than our clas­sic Tegern­see-Ster­zing rou­te. Your jour­ney beg­ins with a gent­le hike from Spit­zing­see through pic­tures­que gor­ges, always accom­pa­nied by rus­hing streams and rivers into Alp­bach­tal. You con­ti­nue along pan­o­r­amic paths into the Zil­ler­tal and cross the main Alpi­ne ridge in a won­derful­ly varied land­scape to South Tyrol. During the tour, you will spend the night in char­ming 3- and 4‑star hotels, whe­re you can rech­ar­ge your bat­te­ries for the next stages. This week-long plea­su­re hike com­bi­nes Bava­ri­an tra­di­ti­on, the warm hos­pi­ta­li­ty of Tyrol and the exqui­si­te wine cul­tu­re of South Tyrol. Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val at Spit­zing­see by approx. 2 p.m. and hike to the Valepp
Distanz: 7 km Höhe (+): 10m Höhe (-): 220m
Wel­co­me to the tran­quil Spit­zing­see, an idyl­lic moun­tain lake with drin­king water qua­li­ty. To get in the mood for your crossing of the Alps, hike for approx. 2 hours along the old tracks of the nar­row-gau­ge rail­road to Manu­el Neu­er’s Forst­haus Valepp, whe­re you will spend the night sur­roun­ded by natu­re. If the­re is no avai­la­bi­li­ty the­re, spend the night at Spit­zing­see and hike the sec­tion to the Valepp tomorrow. 
Day 2
Valepp — Impe­ri­al House
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 170m Höhe (-): 350m
From the fores­ter’s lodge, you hike through a blos­so­ming alpi­ne land­scape. A litt­le later you enter the forest and fol­low a quiet path, first ele­va­ted abo­ve the val­ley and later down to idyl­lic bathing bays. Pas­sing the his­to­ric Erz­her­zog-Johann-Klau­se, you hike along the Bran­den­ber­ger Ache and cross the impres­si­ve Kai­ser­klamm gor­ge as the crow­ning fina­le until you reach the Kai­ser­haus. From the­re, a public bus will take you to Kramsach or Brix­legg, depen­ding on whe­re you are staying. 
Day 3
Kai­ser­haus — Kramsach/Brixlegg
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 170m Höhe (-): 350m
Our trans­fer takes you back to the Kai­ser­haus. Fol­low the river downhill on a quiet forest path. In Pin­egg you chan­ge to a beau­tiful hiking trail with a view of the moun­ta­ins, which leads you to the ent­rance of the famous Tie­fen­bach­klamm gor­ge. Over bridges and always along the rock faces, you hike spec­ta­cu­lar­ly through the gor­ge for approx. 6 kilo­me­ters, well secu­red. You final­ly reach your over­night accom­mo­da­ti­on via a forest path or by bus. 
Day 4
Kramsach/Brixlegg — Fügen
Distanz: 12 km Höhe (+): 180m Höhe (-): 690m
Depen­ding on whe­re you are stay­ing, take the bus to Brix­legg. Fol­low the Alp­bach­tal water hiking trail across mea­dows and past quaint farm­hou­ses deco­ra­ted with flowers to Reith. Here you can eit­her take the cable car or walk up to the Reit­her­ko­gel. The cable car is clo­sed on Wed­nes­days. If you arri­ve on a Sun­day, it is not pos­si­ble to take the cable car, and a breath­ta­king view of the Zil­ler­tal opens up a litt­le later. On a road with litt­le traf­fic, you hike lei­su­re­ly downhill towards Fügen — the magni­fi­cent pan­ora­ma always in view. 
Day 5
Fügen — Spiel­joch — Hochfügen
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 740m
After a rela­xed break­fast, set off on foot from your accom­mo­da­ti­on in Fügen, the first vaca­ti­on regi­on in the Zil­ler­tal, to the Spiel­joch­bahn val­ley sta­ti­on. The gon­do­la takes you effort­less­ly up to an alti­tu­de of around 1,850 meters, whe­re an impres­si­ve pan­o­r­amic view of the Zil­ler­tal, the Kar­wen­del and Rofan moun­ta­ins as well as the Kitz­bü­hel Alps and the Kai­ser Moun­ta­ins awaits you. On a pic­tures­que path that winds through moun­tain pines, alpi­ne roses, Swiss stone pines and gra­ni­te stones, you hike to the Gart Alm, whe­re you can try the famous Kai­ser­schmar­ren. The trail con­ti­nues over the Loas­sat­tel to the Alpen­gast­haus Loas. After a well-ear­ned rest, a shady hiking trail leads you com­for­ta­b­ly on to the win­ter sports para­di­se of Hoch­fü­gen, your desti­na­ti­on for today. 
Day 6
Hoch­fü­gen — Melch­bo­den — Mayrhofen/Aschau
Distanz: 11 km Höhe (+): 840m Höhe (-): 300m
Today your hike takes you through a uni­que alpi­ne pas­tu­re regi­on, which offers fasci­na­ting insights into his­to­ri­cal alpi­ne far­ming — a rare heri­ta­ge in the Alps. You reach the Sidan­joch along gla­cier-for­med rocks. From the near­by Rast­ko­gel­hüt­te, you can enjoy breath­ta­king views of the Inn­tal val­ley, the Kar­wen­del moun­ta­ins and the Tux Alps. After a short ascent to the Mit­ter­wands­kopf, you fol­low a pic­tures­que path along a moun­tain ridge, past ice-age rock for­ma­ti­ons and idyl­lic pools, to the Melch­bo­den. From here, you can com­for­ta­b­ly take the Zil­ler­ta­ler Höhen­stra­ße bus down into the val­ley. Depen­ding on whe­re you are stay­ing, you can then con­ti­nue by bus or the Zil­ler­tal­bahn to Aschau or Mayrhofen. 
Day 7
Mayrhofen/Aschau — Schle­geis — Pfitsch — Sterzing
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 480m Höhe (-): 820m
Today the time has final­ly come: you are crossing the main Alpi­ne ridge, the high­light of your crossing of the Alps. In the mor­ning, our trans­fer will take you to the Schle­geis reser­voir at 1,800 meters abo­ve sea level, whe­re today’s stage beg­ins. The impres­si­ve dam, which was built in the 1970s to sup­p­ly ener­gy and water, dams one of Aus­tria’s lar­gest lakes and is fed by the maje­s­tic gla­ciers in the back­ground. The modera­te­ly ascen­ding hiking trail leads you through a breath­ta­king land­scape, cha­rac­te­ri­zed by rus­hing streams, impres­si­ve water­falls as well as scree and rock morai­nes. Short­ly befo­re rea­ching the Pfit­scher­joch­haus moun­tain hut, you cross the bor­der into Ita­ly and South Tyrol and reach the hig­hest point of the day at 2,275 meters — the main Alpi­ne ridge is now behind you. You con­ti­nue hiking through gent­le alpi­ne pas­tu­res and shady mixed forests and begin the des­cent into the Pfitsch­tal val­ley until you final­ly reach St. Jakob. From the­re, take the bus to your accom­mo­da­ti­on in Sterzing. 
Day 8
Return trans­fer to the Spitzingsee
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Unfort­u­na­te­ly, your trip ends today and you will be trans­fer­red back to Spit­zing­see. We are hap­py to extend your stay.

Additional information

Tour cha­rac­ter
The tour is modera­te­ly dif­fi­cult and requi­res a good level of fit­ness and sure­foo­ted­ness. It runs along very well-main­tai­ned hiking trails, forest roads and paths. The­re are no clim­bing pas­sa­ges or very expo­sed sec­tions. You hike through gor­ges twice and cross bridges here and walk along the rock face abo­ve the gor­ge — if you are very afraid of heights, you can avo­id the­se stages. If you are not fit or the wea­ther is not play­ing ball, it is usual­ly pos­si­ble to tra­vel to the next stage loca­ti­on by public trans­port or cab. 
Par­king
Church par­king lot at Spit­zing­see, approx. 5 EUR per day. Paya­ble on site. 
Arri­val
By car: Coming from the west via the A8 high­way to the Weyarn exit, from the­re through Mies­bach, Haus­ham and Schlier­see to the B307. From the east: Via the A8 high­way to the Irschen­berg exit and through the Leit­z­ach­tal val­ley to Spit­zing­see. TRAIN: Hour­ly con­nec­tions with the BRB from Munich main sta­ti­on in the direc­tion of Bay­risch­zell to Fisch­hau­sen-Neu­haus sta­ti­on. From the­re, take bus no. 9562 to the ter­mi­nus Spit­zing­see Kirche. 
7‑day care­free number
No mat­ter how well plan­ned a trip is, in rare cases unex­pec­ted things hap­pen. At such times, it’s nice to have someone you can rely on on site. For this reason, you will have a local cont­act per­son on our indi­vi­du­al acti­vi­ty tours who will be hap­py to pro­vi­de you with infor­ma­ti­on and, as sta­ted in the tra­vel docu­ments, can be cont­ac­ted in an emergency.

If a mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is requi­red for the tour to take place, this is sta­ted under Pri­ces and ser­vices. If the mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is not rea­ched, we reser­ve the right to can­cel the trip up to four weeks befo­re the date of arri­val. We recom­mend that you do not orga­ni­ze your arri­val and depar­tu­re until after this dead­line has passed.
Other notes
To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. This tour is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with redu­ced mobility. 
Half board
We are hap­py to offer you 5x half board on request (no half board pos­si­ble in Kramsach/Brixlegg) for EUR 147 per person.
Return trans­fer
Our Alpi­ne Crossing shut­tle bus takes you com­for­ta­b­ly from Ster­zing back to Tegern­see in the mor­ning and our con­nec­ting trans­fer con­ti­nues to Spit­zing­see. Depen­ding on the volu­me of traf­fic, arri­val at Lake Tegern­see is sche­du­led bet­ween 11 am and 1 pm, and arri­val at Lake Spit­zing­see at around 12–14 pm. Plea­se plan your onward jour­ney with suf­fi­ci­ent buf­fer time due to the risk of traf­fic jams. 
Note for rail travelers
If you are lea­ving by train, we recom­mend that you only use the return trans­fer to Gmund am Tegern­see and depart direct­ly from here by train. Plea­se let us know if you do not need the con­nec­ting trans­fer to Spitzingsee.
