The route runs on easy to moderately difficult paths through fantastic, changing landscapes. Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Individual arrival in Fügen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Welcome to Fügen, the gateway to the Zillertal.
Day 2
Fügen — Spieljoch — Hochfügen
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 740m
After breakfast, walk from your accommodation in Fügen — also known as the first vacation region in the Zillertal — to the Spieljoch cable car. Float effortlessly by gondola up to the Spieljoch at an altitude of almost 1,850 m and enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the mountains of the Zillertal, Karwendel and Rofan mountains and even as far as the Kitzbühel Alps and the Kaiser Mountains. A wonderful trail between mountain pines, alpine roses, Swiss stone pine trees and granite stones takes you via the Gart Alm (we recommend Kaiserschmarren) to the Loassattel and finally on to the Alpengasthaus Loas. After a rest and refreshment stop, the route takes you comfortably along a partly shady hiking trail to Hochfügen, today’s stage destination and well-known winter sports destination.
Day 3
Hochfügen-Melchboden-Zillertal
Distanz: 11 km Höhe (+): 840m Höhe (-): 300m
Today you hike through an alpine pasture region that is only visible here in the Alps and provides fascinating insights into historical alpine farming. The Sidanjoch is reached accompanied by rocks polished by the glacier ages ago. The nearby Rastkogelhütte also offers a magnificent view of the Inn Valley, Karwendel and the Tux Alps. After a short ascent to the Mitterwandskopf, you follow a picturesque trail past glacial forms, pools and along a mountain ridge to the Melchboden. From here, it’s easy on the knees on the bus down the Zillertaler Höhenstraße. Depending on where you are staying, continue with the Zillertalbahn to Aschau or Mayrhofen.
Day 4
Mayrhofen/Aschau — Schlegeis — Pfitschtal — Sterzing
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 480m Höhe (-): 820m
Today is the day: you will cross the main Alpine ridge — your de facto crossing of the Alps. In the morning, you will travel comfortably by bus via the toll road to the Schlegeis reservoir (1,800 m above sea level) for the start of today’s stage. The imposing dam wall — built for energy and water supply in the early 1970s — keeps one of Austria’s largest reservoirs and the glaciers behind it in check. You cross the border to Italy and South Tyrol in front of the managed Pfitscherjochhaus and reach the highest point of the day at 2,275 meters — the main Alpine ridge has been crossed. Through gentle alpine pastures and later shady mixed forest, you hike a first section down the Pfitschtal valley. Continue by public bus (approx. hourly connections) to Sterzing.
Day 5
Return transfer to Fügen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Organized return transfer by shuttle bus from Sterzing to Fügen.

Additional information

Tour character
The tour is moderately difficult and requires a good basic level of fitness and surefootedness. It runs along very well-maintained hiking trails, forest roads and paths. There are no climbing passages or heavily exposed sections. Nevertheless, it is an advantage if you are reasonably free from giddiness. If you are not fit or the weather is not playing ball, it is usually possible to travel to the next stage destination by public transport or cab.
Other notes
To ensure a stress-free start to the trip, we recommend arriving at the starting point by early evening in most cases. Some tours start as early as midday, in which case we recommend arriving the day before and will be happy to book an extra night for you at the same time. The individual return journey takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilometers are approximate and may differ from the actual kilometers covered. This tour is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
Minimum number of participants
If a minimum number of participants is required for the tour to take place, this is stated under Prices and services. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the trip up to four weeks before the date of arrival. We recommend that you do not organize your arrival and departure until after this deadline has passed.
7‑day carefree number
No matter how well planned a trip is, in rare cases unexpected things happen. At such times, it’s nice to have someone you can rely on on site. For this reason, you will have a local contact person on our individual activity tours who will be happy to provide you with information and, as stated in the travel documents, can be contacted in an emergency.

If, in our opinion, it is not possible to cross the ridge due to weather conditions (e.g. severe weather warning, onset of winter), our free bus transfer from Aschau/Mayrhofen will take you to the next stage hotel in Pfitschtal or Sterzing.
