Alpine panorama route

from 1.463,- per person

The Alpine Panorama Route (National Swiss Cycle Route No. 4) traverses the northern foothills of the Alps with its traditional cultures, settlements and alpine farms. The physically demanding ride through Switzerland’s cycling country is suitable for racing bikes and sporty cyclists are rewarded with magnificent views. Between Lake Constance and Lake Geneva, the Alpine Panorama Route leads up to 1948 meters above sea level (Klausen Pass) and crosses several Alpine passes in the course of the route through the Swiss mountains. Most of the major climbs can also be overcome by post bus and bike/bike transport.

Individual arrival in St. Margrethen.
St. Margrethen — Lichtensteig
Distanz: 80 km Höhe (+): 1690m Höhe (-): 1470m
The tour welcomes you with constant ups and downs in the hilly Appenzell countryside. The Swiss say that every second house is a “Beiz”. It is a peculiar and peaceful farming country, a finely structured landscape at the foot of the Säntis, characterized by original dialect and mischievous wit.
Lichtensteig — Altdorf
Distanz: 107 km Höhe (+): 1760m Höhe (-): 1940m
Toggenburg is richer in forest and harsher. A notched, humpbacked landscape where water once ruled over death and labor. Below, the alluvial plain of Linth, brick country with huge limestone walls, Glarus was once a textile region of global importance. On the ascent to the Klausen Pass is the Urnerboden, Switzerland’s largest alp, and below the 1948-metre-high pass is the Schächental, a mountain landscape with a traditional, agricultural stepped economy.
Altdorf — Sörenberg
Distanz: 85 km Höhe (+): 1790m Höhe (-): 1100m
Wild in foehn weather: the mighty Lake Lucerne with its impressive panorama. In contrast, the flat Lake Sarnen with the Obwalden Bruder Klausen landscape is lovely. A treat for cranks: the panoramic road on the Glaubenbielen Pass, a high-altitude flight into Entlebuch
Sörenberg — Thun
Distanz: 50 km Höhe (+): 645m Höhe (-): 1235m
Alpine marshlands in the rain-rich Glaubenbielen and a biosphere reserve around the Schrattenfluh. No less attractive: the ‘Chräche’ and ‘Höger’ of the Emmental, a classic pre-alpine hilly landscape
Thun — Gruyères
Distanz: 94 km Höhe (+): 1660m Höhe (-): 1465m
From Chabisland through the wild Sensegraben to Fribourg in Üechtland. The old town with its cathedral and 200 Gothic house facades is picturesquely situated in the loop of the Saane river. Afterwards, a lovely landscape and an artificial lake, the Lac de la Gruyère, will delight you. The land of the Crème de la Gruyère and black and white cows awaits you. On the hill of the small castle town of Gruyères with its bustling tourist crowds, you can enjoy a magnificent view.
Gruyères — Aigle
Distanz: 66 km Höhe (+): 1045m Höhe (-): 1400m
It’s quiet in Obergreyerz and on the lonely ascent through harsh Alpine meadows to Hongrin, occasionally punctuated by the thunder of army guns. Experience an exhilarating 1000-metre descent into the mildness of the Rhone Valley, a sensual descent through all climatic stages.

You can really experience the panorama of the Alps on this route. If you want to take it easier, choose an electric bike. A good basic level of fitness is required in any case. Expect more traffic on the pass roads at weekends.
