Cinque Terre — Vineyards with sea views

from 1.195,- per person

On our most popular hiking tour, we explore the famous coastline of Liguria with its picturesque villages on spectacular hiking trails. The combination of activity and enjoyment is delightful, as we also experience the wines and get to know the delicious Ligurian cuisine. Our hikes not only take in the famous five villages by the sea, but Portofino and the Ligurian coast north of the Cinque Terre are also on the program. Our cozy villa hotel is located in Moneglia, a place with a special Mediterranean charm, where we will be spoiled with culinary delights.

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Saturday: Benvenuti in Liguria!
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Travel to Moneglia on your own. In the early evening, you will be welcomed at the hotel by the hotel owner’s family and the hiking guide. An aperitif together will get you in the mood for an enjoyable week of hiking in Liguria. First Ligurian dinner.
Day 2
Sunday: On a herb trail to a young winegrower near Framura
Distanz: 8 km Höhe (+): 470m Höhe (-): 470m
To get us in the perfect mood for the Liguria region, our hike begins today in Bonassola, just a short train ride from Moneglia. Here begins a scenic trail that offers not only magnificent views but also a special feature: a wide variety of wild herbs grow here, ranging from wild asparagus to thyme and mountain savory to mint and myrtle, all of which are used in local cuisine. Once we arrive in Framura, we meet Emilio, a young farmer and winemaker, who first shows us his beautifully situated vineyards and gardens—naturally, with a view of the sea. Afterward, we enjoy a tasting of his products, most of which come from his own garden, accompanied by his characterful wines. Emilio also produces fine olive oil. Afterward, we hike down through Framura’s picturesque neighborhoods to the train station. If the weather is nice, there’s even time for a refreshing dip in the sea!
Day 3
Monday: Corniglia Manarola: the wine of the Cinque Terre
Distanz: 8 km Höhe (+): 400m Höhe (-): 400m
Today we’re taking the train to Corniglia, the smallest of the Cinque Terre villages. It’s perched high above the sea and has retained its original character. Our hike takes us right through the area where the characteristic terraced vineyards are particularly easy to see. Here we’ll gain insight into how the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, came to be. After all, it is the wine that has made this region what it is today: an impressive cultural landscape perched steeply above the sea, divided by dry stone walls with a total length of approximately 7,000 km—all created over centuries of painstaking manual labor. The views are simply breathtaking: down by the sea, the colorful houses of the five villages are nestled one atop the other. Afterward, a special experience awaits us in Manarola: a professional wine tasting with a sommelier. We’ll sample various wines from the Cinque Terre, accompanied by a light snack. Afterward, there will still be time for a stroll through this picturesque village.
Day 4
Tuesday: Monterosso Vernazza: vineyards with a sea view
Distanz: 10 km Höhe (+): 550m Höhe (-): 550m
Train ride to Monterosso, the largest village in the Cinque Terre, where we’ll have time for a short stroll. Afterward, we’ll begin our hike, which takes us through fragrant Mediterranean scrub, lemon groves, and olive groves. Along the way, we’ll enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the sea time and again. We’ll pass two beautiful Marian pilgrimage churches, where there are shady spots for a picnic beneath massive, ancient trees. In the afternoon, we’ll visit winemaker Cheo’s winery in Vernazza, perhaps the most picturesque village in the Cinque Terre. Here, we’ll enjoy a wine tasting, during which we’ll also sample the prized Passito wine, Sciacchetrà. Afterward, there will be free time to explore the village on your own.
Day 5
Wednesday: Dolce far niente! A day at leisure!
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
You can spend today however you like. Enjoy a relaxing day at the beach in Moneglia, or take the opportunity to go on an excursion. How about a visit to Genoa, the capital of Liguria, which has a lot to offer culturally? Alternatively, the famous cities of Pisa or Lucca beckon, or you can explore the many charming towns along the Ligurian coast. We’re happy to help with tips and, upon request, can also organize private boat tours so you can experience the coast from the sea. Dinner is also on your own today, so you can discover the local cuisine at your leisure.
Day 6
Thursday: around Riomaggiore: panoramic hike, wine and boat trip
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 550m Höhe (-): 550m
Thursday: Around Riomaggiore: Panoramic Hike, Wine, and Boat Ride Today we’re in for an absolute highlight—a day full of superlatives! We’ll enjoy a beautiful panoramic hike, an unforgettable boat ride, and taste exceptional wines at a truly special location. In the morning, we’ll take the train to Riomaggiore. From there, we’ll hike up an ancient trail that leads us past the ruins of the village from which today’s town once emerged. Our path continues to wind through olive groves and small oak forests until, by late morning, we reach a very picturesque little hamlet. Here, in a wonderful setting with a magnificent view of the sea, a family has made their dream come true: they have restored abandoned vineyard terraces and now run them as an organic farm. In addition to grapevines, a variety of herbs and heirloom fruit varieties grow here; there are chickens, bees, and even donkeys. In this magical place, we’ll taste special wines that tell us a lot about their unique terroir. Afterward, we’ll head back down to Riomaggiore, passing an old pilgrimage church along the way. The day culminates with a boat ride along the Cinque Terre coastline. During the ride, we’ll have the chance to reflect on all our hikes in this beautiful region from a new perspective.
Day 7
Friday: Portofino Peninsula: Hike, Slow Food Hermitage
Distanz: 8 km Höhe (+): 300m Höhe (-): 300m
Friday: Portofino Peninsula: Hike, Slow Food Hermitage Today we start our day in Santa Margherita Ligure, an elegant seaside resort that invites you to linger with its long beaches, grand hotels, and charming cafés. From here, our hiking trail begins in the Portofino Nature Reserve. The route takes us through a varied landscape—sometimes through shady groves, sometimes past small hamlets and old mills. Around noon, we reach an idyllically situated, ancient hermitage just above Portofino. There, a lovingly prepared light lunch awaits us. Afterward, we’ll have time for a leisurely stroll through Portofino before taking the boat back to Santa Margherita Ligure, enjoying the breathtaking coastline from the water once more. On the evening of the last day of our trip, a special highlight awaits us: a themed dinner featuring Slow Food specialties, prepared by our hotel’s chef. This is a wonderful conclusion to our journey, perfect for reflecting on the experiences of the past few days.
