If you don’t want to end your crossing of the Alps in Ster­zing, but want to con­ti­nue hiking to pic­tures­que Mer­ano, this tour is ide­al for you. Start­ing in Fügen, at the gate­way to the Zil­ler­tal, enjoy a ride on the Spiel­joch­bahn and con­ti­nue your hike via Hoch­fü­gen, Mayr­ho­fen and the Pfit­scher Joch to Ster­zing, whe­re you will be gree­ted by a touch of Ita­li­an life­style. From the­re, the trail con­ti­nues south to Mer­ano, which will enchant you with its char­ming alley­ways and palm trees. You cross impres­si­ve land­scapes on easy to modera­te­ly dif­fi­cult paths. At the end of each stage, you can relax in com­for­ta­ble CHARME hotels (4‑star cate­go­ry). This 8‑day tour com­bi­nes Tyro­l’s warm hos­pi­ta­li­ty with the viney­ards of South Tyrol. Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val in Fügen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Wel­co­me to the beau­tiful Zillertal!
Day 2
Fügen — Spiel­joch — Hochfügen
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 740m
In the mor­ning, the Spiel­joch­bahn takes you to the moun­tain sta­ti­on, whe­re you can alre­a­dy enjoy the impres­si­ve pan­o­r­amic view of the Zil­ler­tal, the Kar­wen­del and Rofan moun­ta­ins with views that extend as far as the Kitz­bü­hel Alps and the Kai­ser Moun­ta­ins. The rou­te leads along a lei­su­re­ly hiking trail to the Gart Alm, on to the Loas­sat­tel and final­ly down to Hoch­fü­gen, the popu­lar win­ter sports resort. 
Day 3
Hoch­fü­gen — Mayrhofen/Aschau
Distanz: 11 km Höhe (+): 840m Höhe (-): 300m
Today your hike takes you through an extra­or­di­na­ry alpi­ne pas­tu­re regi­on, which offers rare insights into the tra­di­tio­nal cul­ti­va­ti­on of the Alps. Sur­roun­ded by gla­cier rocks, you reach the Sidan­joch. From the near­by Rast­ko­gel­hüt­te you can enjoy a breath­ta­king view of the Inn­tal val­ley, the Kar­wen­del moun­ta­ins and the Tux Alps. After a short ascent to the Mit­ter­wands­kopf, you fol­low a pic­tures­que path that leads through a land­scape shaped by the Ice Age. Pas­sing small pools and over a moun­tain ridge, you final­ly reach Melch­bo­den. From the­re, the bus takes you com­for­ta­b­ly down into the val­ley via the Zil­ler­ta­ler Höhen­stra­ße. Depen­ding on whe­re you are stay­ing over­night, you can con­ti­nue your jour­ney by bus or on the Zil­ler­tal­bahn to Aschau or Mayrhofen. 
Day 4
Mayrhofen/Aschau — Schle­geis — Pfit­scher Joch — Sterzing
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 480m Höhe (-): 820m
Today, the long-awai­ted moment has arri­ved: You are crossing the main Alpi­ne ridge and thus the Alps. In the mor­ning, our trans­fer takes you via the toll road up to the Schle­geis reser­voir, which is loca­ted at 1,800 meters and forms the start­ing point of today’s stage. The impo­sing dam wall, which was built in the 1970s to sup­p­ly ener­gy and water, dams one of Aus­tria’s lar­gest lakes, fed by the sur­roun­ding gla­ciers. Short­ly befo­re the Pfit­scher­joch­haus, whe­re you can take a break, you cross the bor­der into Ita­ly and South Tyrol and reach the hig­hest point of the tour at 2,275 meters. The main Alpi­ne ridge has been con­que­r­ed! The des­cent takes you through gent­le alpi­ne mea­dows and shady forests down into the Pfitsch­tal val­ley. From the­re, a trans­fer will take you to Sterzing. 
Day 5
Ster­zing — Bri­xen — Klau­sen / Villanders
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 580m Höhe (-): 620m
In the mor­ning, the­re is a trans­fer from Ster­zing to the start­ing point of the stage. Start­ing from Bri­xen, the hike leads up the Pfef­fers­berg. You pass small ham­lets and moun­tain farms on beau­tiful ter­races. The pan­o­r­amic view of the migh­ty Dolo­mi­te peaks opens up to the south. Fol­lo­wing the Keschtn­weg trail, you hike through a beau­tiful, root-cover­ed forest path and then reach Feld­thurns. Via Säben Monas­tery, the acro­po­lis of South Tyrol, the rou­te leads to the Dürer town of Klausen. 
Day 6
Chi­usa — Renon — Bolzano
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 670m Höhe (-): 280m
After a short bus trans­fer to Bar­bia­no, the stage fol­lows the Keschtn­weg trail up the Rit­ten. The pan­ora­ma is sim­ply stun­ning. The hike leads across the Rit­ten high pla­teau abo­ve the Eisack val­ley with stun­ning views of the Dolo­mi­tes, espe­ci­al­ly the Schlern. The earth pyra­mids on the Rit­ten are the hig­hest and most beau­tiful of their kind in Euro­pe. From Ober­bo­zen you can take the cable car to Bol­za­no. Nowhe­re else do Ita­li­an and Ger­man cul­tu­re meet as clo­se­ly as here. 
Day 7
Bol­za­no — Lana — Merano
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 220m Höhe (-): 240m
After a trans­fer by public trans­port, the stage beg­ins in Lana. The hike leads along the famous Mar­lin­ger Waal­weg. Waa­le are irri­ga­ti­on dit­ches that were crea­ted seve­ral hundred years ago to sup­p­ly dry cor­ri­dors with water. The Mar­lin­ger Waal­weg offers a magni­fi­cent view of the Mer­ano basin and, at 11 km, is the lon­gest of its kind in South Tyrol. Below Tyrol Cast­le, the stage fol­lows the famous Tapp­ei­ner Weg to Mer­ano. Cen­tu­ries-old arca­des and beau­tiful parks invi­te you to enjoy a plea­sant end to the tour in a mild climate. 
Day 8
Return trans­fer to Fügen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m

If the mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is not rea­ched, we reser­ve the right to can­cel the trip up to four weeks befo­re the date of arri­val. We recom­mend that you do not orga­ni­ze your arri­val and depar­tu­re until after this dead­line has passed.
Shut­tle bus Mayrhofen/Aschau — Schlegeisspeicher
On the mor­ning of the 4th day, our Feu­er und Eis bus shut­tle will take you from your hotel in Aschau or Mayr­ho­fen to the Schle­geis reser­voir. Short­ly after the impo­sing dam wall, you then set off towards Pfit­scher­joch and cross the main Alpi­ne ridge. If, in our opi­ni­on, it is not pos­si­ble to cross the rou­te due to wea­ther con­di­ti­ons (e.g. seve­re wea­ther war­ning, onset of win­ter), our free bus trans­fer will take you from Aschau/Mayrhofen to the next stage hotel in Sterzing.

Arri­val
BY TRAIN: regu­lar con­nec­tions from Munich, chan­ge in Jen­bach to the Zil­ler­tal Rail­way by car: coming from the north: A8 and A93 high­ways, from Kie­fers­fel­den Inn­tal­au­to­bahn to Wie­sing, from the­re on the B169 to Fügen.
Tour cha­rac­ter
The tour is modera­te­ly dif­fi­cult and requi­res a good basic level of fit­ness and sure­foo­ted­ness. It runs along very well-main­tai­ned hiking trails, forest roads and paths. The­re are no clim­bing pas­sa­ges or hea­vi­ly expo­sed sec­tions. Nevert­hel­ess, it is an advan­ta­ge if you are reason­ab­ly free from gid­di­ness. If you are not fit or the wea­ther is not play­ing ball, it is usual­ly pos­si­ble to tra­vel to the next stage desti­na­ti­on by public trans­port or cab.
Other notes
To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. This tour is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with redu­ced mobility.
