Crossing the Alps from Garmisch to Sterzing without luggage transfer

from 745,- per person

One of the most varied Alpine crossings connects Garmisch, located at the foot of Germany’s highest mountain, with Sterzing, the northernmost town in Italy. The route starts impressively at the thundering waterfalls of the Partnachklamm gorge and leads past Elmau Castle towards Mittenwald. Plunging into the rugged rocks of the Karwendel mountains, you climb further up to finally enjoy the breathtaking view of the main Alpine ridge on the ridge of the Nordkette above Innsbruck. Along the striking Serles, the route runs through the Stubai Alps into the Gschnitztal valley, with views of the Zillertal glaciers, as far as the Obernberg valley. At the secluded Sandjöchl at an altitude of 2,165 m, once a path for smugglers, you cross the main Alpine ridge into South Tyrol. The Dolomieu Trail then takes you up to the summit of the Rosskopf, from where you can take the cable car down to the medieval streets of Sterzing in comfort. With our tour option without luggage transport, you can enjoy the comfort of comfortable hotel accommodation, but at the end you can also be proud of having carried your rucksack over the Alps on your own. And by the way, you were also a little budget-friendly on the way.

The imposing Serles, at 2,717 m the striking cornerstone of the Stubai Valley, catches the eye of every traveler heading south on the Brenner freeway. Because of its special shape, the peak is also known as the high altar of Tyrol. Your hike takes you along the foot of this mountain massif from the Stubai Valley into the Gschnitz Valley. First you reach Maria Waldrast, a monastery at an altitude of 1,638 m and one of the oldest and highest places of pilgrimage in the Alps. Surrounded by spectacular natural scenery, you ascend to the Blaserhütte (2,180 m), the highlight of today’s stage and ideal for a break. From the Gschnitztal you climb up to the Trunahütte and continue uphill to the Eggerjoch (2,132 m). From here, you hike gently up and down across alpine meadows and past glowing alpine roses along a broad, open mountain ridge. The panorama is breathtaking: the imposing peaks of the Tribulaune lie before you, the Brenner mountains to the south, the glaciers of the Zillertal Alps to the east and the Stubai Alps with the striking Habicht to the north. Your first stop is Lake Obernberg, framed by the mighty rock faces of the Tribulaun, a natural monument that reflects the impressive landscape. You climb up to Sandjöchl at 2,165 m on quiet paths once used by smugglers. Here you cross the border into Italy, enter South Tyrol and cross the main Alpine ridge. The imposing Pflerscher Tribulaun with its striking rocky peak is enthroned opposite. High above the Pflerschtal valley, you follow the Dolomieuweg trail, named after the geologist Dolomieu, who discovered the dolomite rock here in the 18th century. Via the Vallmingalm you reach the Rosskopf (2,189 m), from where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Zillertal Alps and Dolomites.
