Your Alpi­ne crossing beg­ins in the capi­tal of Tyrol, lea­ding from the striking peaks of the Stu­bai Alps through the Gschnitz Val­ley and Obern­berg Val­ley all the way to South Tyrol. Along the way, you’ll encoun­ter the Maria Wald­rast pil­grimage church, the Licht­see lake with views of num­e­rous three-thousand-meter peaks, the tur­quoi­se-green Obern­ber­ger See, and the crossing of the main Alpi­ne ridge at the Sand­jöchl. Once you arri­ve in the pic­tures­que Pflersch Val­ley, you’ll expe­ri­ence the tran­si­ti­on from the Tyro­lean to the Ita­li­an moun­tain land­scape. Against the back­drop of the South Tyro­lean Alps, you’ll hike from the Vall­min­g­alm to the Ross­kopf and then reach the his­to­ric town of Ster­zing. The scenic Spi­lucker Plat­te and the small pil­grimage church of St. Cypri­an line your path to Bri­xen. The jour­ney con­cludes with the striking church tower of Bar­bi­an, the earth pyra­mids on the Rit­ten, and the ride on the Rit­ten Rail­way and cable car to Bolzano.

Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val in Innsbruck
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Inns­bruck cap­ti­va­tes visi­tors with its uni­que set­ting amid maje­s­tic Alpi­ne peaks. Dis­co­ver the his­to­ric old town with its sights, stroll through char­ming alleys, and enjoy magni­fi­cent views of the sur­roun­ding moun­ta­ins. A spe­cial high­light is the famous Gol­den Roof, which is con­side­red the city’s landmark.
Day 2
Inns­bruck — Gschnitztal/Wipptal
Distanz: 12 km Höhe (+): 690m Höhe (-): 1060m
You can reach the Ser­les­bahn moun­tain sta­ti­on in the Stu­bai Val­ley by bus and cable car. Against the back­drop of the Stu­bai Alps with their striking rocky peaks, you’ll hike to the Maria Wald­rast pil­grimage church and stop at the monas­tery befo­re begin­ning the alpi­ne ascent to the Bla­ser­hüt­te on the so-cal­led Blu­men­berg. Fol­lo­wing mea­dow and forest trails, you’ll des­cend into the pic­tures­que Gschnitz­tal Val­ley. Hiking time: approx. 4.5 hours
Day 3
Gschnitztal/Wipptal Obernbergtal/Wipptal
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 930m Höhe (-): 720m
Fol­lo­wing the famous St. Rome­di­us Pil­grimage Trail, you’ll climb up to the Tru­nahüt­te and con­ti­nue on to the Truna­joch. Nest­led in the impo­sing moun­tain land­scape, the idyl­lic Licht­see invi­tes you to take a break and enjoy the view of num­e­rous snow-cap­ped three-thousand-meter peaks. The trail then leads through the Nöss­lach­joch Natu­re Reser­ve down into the tran­quil Obern­berg Val­ley, whe­re the migh­ty Tri­bulaun towers over the val­ley head. Hiking time: approx. 5.5 hours
Day 4
Obern­berg Valley/Wipptal — Gossensass
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 760m Höhe (-): 1060m
From the tur­quoi­se-green Obern­ber­ger See, fol­low the lake­si­de path past the famous Maria am See Cha­pel, a spe­cial place of spi­ri­tu­al ener­gy. Through bloo­ming alpi­ne pas­tu­res and moun­tain mea­dows, you’ll ascend to the 2,000-meter-high Sand­jöchl, whe­re you’ll cross the main Alpi­ne ridge and the bor­der into Ita­ly. On the south side, gent­le switch­backs wind through the moun­tain forest down into the pic­tures­que Pflersch­tal val­ley, offe­ring views of the Ita­li­an Alps. Hiking time: approx. 5.5 hours
Day 5
Gos­sen­sass — Sterzing
Distanz: 10 km Höhe (+): 610m Höhe (-): 480m
Take the bus and cable car up to the Lad­urns Cable Car’s moun­tain sta­ti­on. From the­re, a scenic high-alti­tu­de trail leads along the moun­tain slo­pes to the Vall­min­g­alm, whe­re you can stop for a bite to eat fea­turing South Tyro­lean spe­cial­ties. If you’d like, you can climb Mon­te Cavallo (Ross­kopf) and enjoy the view all the way to the Dolo­mi­tes. Take the cable car to Ster­zing, whe­re you can stroll through the his­to­ric alleys and round out your day of hiking with the finest Ita­li­an cui­sine. Hiking time: approx. 4 hours
Day 6
Ster­zing — Brixen
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 910m Höhe (-): 1080m
After a short train ride, the hike beg­ins on the Peis­ser­steig trail. Through quiet forests and along the moun­ta­in­si­des, you’ll ascend to the Spi­lucker Plat­te, whe­re an impres­si­ve pan­o­r­amic view of the sur­roun­ding moun­ta­ins unfolds. Pas­sing the Salern ruins, the trail leads to the Kneipp faci­li­ty by the stream—ideal for a refres­hing break. Via rocky paths and shady forest trails, you’ll reach the moun­tai­nee­ring vil­la­ge of Tils. After visi­ting the St. Cyrill Cha­pel, you’ll hike along the Euro­pa-Besin­nungs­weg direct­ly into the old town of Bri­xen. Hiking time: approx. 6 hours
Day 7
Bress­ano­ne — Bolzano
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 1030m Höhe (-): 310m
From Waid­bruck, you’ll head up to Bar­bi­an, whe­re the lea­ning church tower stands guard over the Eisack Val­ley, visi­ble from afar. Pas­sing by the roaring water­fall with its num­e­rous cas­ca­des, the trail con­ti­nues uphill through alpi­ne pas­tu­res and sun­ny moun­tain mea­dows. At the sum­mit of the See­wand, impres­si­ve views down into the val­ley open up. After visi­ting the bizar­re earth pyra­mids, you’ll reach the Rit­ten Sun Pla­teau. The nost­al­gic train ride to Ober­bo­zen and the sub­se­quent gon­do­la ride to Bol­za­no pro­vi­de an atmo­sphe­ric con­clu­si­on to the hiking trip. Hiking time: approx. 6.5 hours
