from 978,- per person

In the footsteps of King Max II from Lake Constance to Forggensee. The Maximiliansweg is one of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in Germany. It runs from west to east along the seam between Bavaria and Austria. The approximately 360 km between Lindau on Lake Constance and Berchtesgaden was covered for the first time around 160 years ago by the Bavarian King Maximilian II. He wanted to get to know his country and his subjects. Experience the diversity of the region in 8 days on the 1st part of the long-distance hiking trail: from Lake Constance, via the Staufner Haus and Sonthofen, to Füssen with the highlight of Neuschwanstein Castle.

Today’s section leads for the most part through the Leckenbach valley, which is rightly considered particularly beautiful with its alpine pastures. The valley trail also means that most of today’s route is moderately uphill, although there is a two-hour section at the end that leads quite steeply uphill to the Staufner Haus. You then take the Hochgratbahn cable car down into the valley and the bus to your overnight accommodation in Oberstaufen.

Now you will conquer a section of the famous and very attractive Nagelfluh ridge hike. You pass the Hochgrat (1832 m), the Rindalphorn (1822 m) and the Buralpkopf (1772 m). Descend to Gunzesried and take the bus to your overnight accommodation in Sonthofen.

Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 970m Höhe (-): 710m
On today’s varied stage, you have remarkable views of the Allgäu Alps and the Tannheim mountains. The highest point today is the Spieser (1651m). The first part of the hike is on asphalt; at Spieser you will then find steep mountain paths. The stage ends on comfortable paths and roads.
Unterjoch — Pfronten
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 130m Höhe (-): 280m
This day’s route takes you through Austrian territory for a short stretch, before crossing a romantic alpine landscape with lush green pastures along the Vils to the stage destination of Pfronten.
Pfronten — Füssen
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 540m Höhe (-): 590m

Wonderful panoramic views of the lake landscape around Hopfensee, Illasbergsee, Lechsee and Forggensee follow. Over the Zirmengrat ridge uphill through mountain pine regions, you reach the picturesque Alatsee lake, from where you descend into the valley, passing several lakes on the way, to reach your destination for today’s stage, Füssen.
