Feuer und Eis own tour

Crossing the Alps on the Maximiliansweg II incl. luggage transfer

from 1.138,- per person

At the beginning of the vacation and health resort of Füssen in the Allgäu region lies one of Bavaria’s most fascinating vacation regions, which once even captivated the legendary King Ludwig II and inspired him to build his world-famous castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. At the end of Lake Tegernsee, on the other hand, culture and creativity merge into a unique oasis, a place of relaxation and enjoyment, where mountains and lake, tradition and far-reaching views form a harmonious backdrop to one of Germany’s most beautiful and best-known vacation regions. In between, there are six varied and challenging stages that lead past majestic Alpine peaks, idyllic wetlands and breathtaking panoramic views.

Füssen — Neuschwanstein Castle — Kenzenhütte — Buching
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 1120m Höhe (-): 640m
The public bus takes you to Schwangau in just a few minutes. First you climb up to the majestic and world-famous fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, built by King Ludwig II. Then enjoy an incredible view of the Allgäu and the castle from the famous Marienbrücke bridge. Now it gets quieter and you climb further and further along beautiful paths through the forest. Finally you reach the Kenzenhütte. The public bus takes you down into the valley where you will spend the night.
Buching — Kenzenhütte — Oberammergau
Distanz: 22 km Höhe (+): 320m Höhe (-): 780m
In the morning, take the regular bus back to the Kenzenhütte before hiking steadily downhill over weedy terrain on damp mountain paths and marvel at the diverse variety of flowers. After around 3.5 hours, you will reach the famous Linderhof Castle, another cultural highlight of the Maximilian Trail. The castle could be described as a mini-Versailles and the surrounding English landscape park is simply a dream. The castle can be visited as part of a pre-booked guided tour. From here, you can take the bus to Oberammergau as you wish. If you still feel like hiking, you can hike via the Pürschlinghaus and the Kolbensattel for a further 3.5 hours to your overnight stay in Oberammergau.
Oberammergau — Eschenlohe
Distanz: 25 km Höhe (+): 730m Höhe (-): 920m
You hike along the Amper to Unterammergau. Then it’s soon uphill to the Hörnlehütte and the Rißberg. Then downhill to Grafenaschau and past the beautiful Murnauer Moos — one of the most important wetlands in Central Europe. Now you only have a flat walk to Eschenlohe. If this stage is too far for you, take our shorter option. Overnight stay in Eschenlohe, Ohlstadt (with train ride) or Murnau (with train ride).
Eschenlohe — Kochel am See
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 1270m Höhe (-): 340m
An absolute dream tour awaits you today. You hike from Eschenlohe to the Heimgarten. This is where the adventure begins: you hike along a panoramic ridge with constant eye contact with the Kochelsee and Walchensee lakes and a spectacular panorama along a hiking trail to the famous Herzogstand. From here you can also enjoy the impressive view of the two lakes. You can descend to the Walchensee either by cable car or on foot. Lake Walchensee is often referred to as the Bavarian Caribbean due to its crystal-clear, turquoise water. From here, take the public bus to Kochel am See, where you will spend the night.
Kochel am See — Lenggries
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 1370m Höhe (-): 510m
The breathtaking impressions from yesterday haven’t even sunk in yet before the next absolutely fantastic tour follows. It starts in Kochel, continues over the wild Benediktenwand with a great view of the Isarwinkel and from there on to the equally famous Brauneck. In winter, this is the locals’ ski resort and in summer a popular hiking destination. The gondola takes you down to Lenggries (ticket not included). On foot to Lenggries. If you are staying overnight here today, continue to the hotel. If you are staying overnight in Tölz, take the train there.
Lenggries — Bad Wiessee
Distanz: 16 km Höhe (+): 1040m Höhe (-): 980m
If you have spent the night in Bad Tölz, take the train back to Lenggries. From here you start your last stage to Bad Wiessee on the famous Tegernsee. You climb the exciting, rocky Geierstein and hike on to the Fockenstein with views of the Tegernsee valley. After a stop at the rustic Aueralm with its large sun terrace, you descend to Lake Tegernsee, where you will spend the night.
