Crossing the Alps on the Maximiliansweg II without luggage transfer

from 868,- per person

One of Bavaria’s most fascinating vacation regions lies at the beginning of the vacation and spa town of Füssen in the Allgäu. It once even captivated the legendary King Ludwig II and inspired him to build his world-famous Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. At the end of Lake Tegernsee, on the other hand, culture and creativity merge to create a unique oasis of relaxation and enjoyment. Here, mountains and lake, tradition and far-reaching views come together in harmony and form the backdrop for one of the most beautiful and best-known vacation regions in Germany. In between, there are six varied and challenging stages that lead past majestic Alpine peaks, idyllic wetlands and breathtaking panoramic views.

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Individual journey to Füssen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Welcome to the picturesque old town of Füssen in the Allgäu.
Day 2
Füssen — Neuschwanstein Castle — Kenzenhütte — Buching
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 1120m Höhe (-): 640m
The bus will take you to Schwangau in just a few minutes. There, the majestic and world-famous fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, built by King Ludwig II, awaits you first. From the famous Marienbrücke bridge, you can enjoy an incredible view over the Allgäu and the castle. The trail then leads quietly along picturesque paths through the forest as you steadily gain altitude. Finally you reach the Kenzenhütte. You return to the valley in comfort by public bus, where you will spend the night.
Day 3
Buching — Kenzenhütte — Oberammergau
Distanz: 22 km Höhe (+): 320m Höhe (-): 780m
The next morning, you return to the Kenzenhütte on the scheduled bus and continue your hike on damp mountain paths through lush, overgrown terrain while admiring the diverse floral splendor. After around 3.5 hours, you will reach the famous Linderhof Castle, another cultural highlight along the Maximilian Trail. This magnificent castle is often referred to as a miniature version of Versailles, and the surrounding English landscape park is simply magical. It is possible to visit the castle if you book in advance. From here, you have the option of taking the bus to Oberammergau, or if you still feel like hiking, you can hike via the Pürschlinghaus and the Kolbensattel for a further 4 hours or so to your overnight accommodation in Oberammergau.
Day 4
Oberammergau — Eschenlohe
Distanz: 25 km Höhe (+): 730m Höhe (-): 920m
You hike along the Amper to Unterammergau. Then it’s soon uphill to the Hörnlehütte and the Rißberg. Then downhill to Grafenaschau and past the beautiful Murnauer Moos — one of the most important wetlands in Central Europe. Now you only have a flat walk to Eschenlohe. If this stage is too far for you, take our shorter option. Overnight stay in Ohlstadt (with train ride) or Murnau (with train ride).
Day 5
Eschenlohe — Kochel am See
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 1270m Höhe (-): 340m
An unforgettable tour full of natural beauty awaits you today. The trail leads from Eschenlohe up to Heimgarten and offers breathtaking views right from the start. Along a picturesque ridge, the trail leads towards the lakes of Kochel and Walchensee with constantly changing panoramas before reaching the famous Herzogstand. From there, too, there is an impressive view of the two lakes. The descent to Walchensee can be done either comfortably by cable car or on foot. Lake Walchensee is often referred to as the Bavarian Caribbean because of its crystal-clear, turquoise waters. From there, a public bus will take you to Kochel am See, where you will spend the night today.
Day 6
Kochel am See — Lenggries
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 1370m Höhe (-): 510m
As soon as yesterday’s impressive experiences have settled a little, the next absolutely fantastic tour is already on the horizon. The starting point is Kochel, from where we hike over the imposing Benediktenwand with its magnificent view of the Isarwinkel to the equally famous Brauneck. Brauneck is a popular ski resort for locals in winter and a popular hiking destination in summer. The gondola takes you back down to Lenggries in comfort. From there, you can reach today’s destination, the picturesque town of Bad Tölz, which lies directly on the Isar and is known for its charming old town, by bus and train.
Day 7
Lenggries — Bad Wiessee
Distanz: 16 km Höhe (+): 1040m Höhe (-): 980m
The next morning you return to Lenggries by bus or train. From there, your final stage begins, taking you to Bad Wiessee on the famous Tegernsee. On the way, you climb the exciting, rocky Geierstein and continue your hike to the Fockenstein, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Tegernsee valley. You then stop off at the cozy Aueralm with its spacious sun terrace before descending to Lake Tegernsee, where you will be staying for the night.
