Cycle tour Allgäu Start in Wangen: leisurely with luggage transfer

from 1.458,- per person

It is new, it is different, it has no beginning and no end: the Allgäu Cycle Tour. This 476-kilometer long-distance cycle route sets new standards. Because unlike the well-known river routes, this is not about a tour from one point to the next, but about literally cycling through a region with its stories, personalities and different landscapes. The product was created as a joint effort by 14 Allgäu towns and advertising associations, the four Allgäu districts and other tourism partners who have joined forces in the Bicycle Business Area Group under the leadership of Allgäu GmbH. The Allgäu Cycle Tour leads through six districts in Bavaria, neighboring Baden-Württemberg and Tyrol on 476 mostly asphalted kilometers. It does not connect place by place and city by city in a straight line. Instead, she immerses herself in the stories of the Allgäu, brings personalities to life and turns the landscape into a narrator. On and directly next to the path are not only world-famous sights such as Neuschwanstein Castle, but also the birthplaces and places of activity of renowned personalities such as the water doctor Sebastian Kneipp. Pretty, baroque towns such as Bad Wurzach, Wangen and Isny invite you to linger. Dreamy villages at the foot of bizarre mountain peaks tell stories of a long, respectful relationship between man and the mountains. The focus of the cycle tour is on enjoyment. In order to meet individual requirements, two axes — the Iller and Allgäu cycle paths — provide a total of nine possible routes. Every cyclist will find a route with a suitable elevation profile. In addition, the more than 50 stations along the route guarantee maximum flexibility. There is also a comprehensive network of e‑bike rental and charging stations.

From Haag you reach Oy. The toughest ascent in this area awaits you on this section, but it is over after around 100 meters. You then pass the border to Austria, barely noticeable, and cycle into the Tannheimer Tal valley towards Tannheim to your hotel.
Day 6
Tannheim — Pfronten — Zell/Eisenberg — Hopfen a.See — Füssen
Distanz: 40 km Höhe (+): 260m Höhe (-): 560m
On the way back to Germany, you cycle along the River Ach through the forests and small gorges of the Ach Valley. The route is as varied as it is beautiful. You can discover the castle ruins of Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg on the rest of the journey until you finally arrive in Hopfen am See. The cycle tour leads through meadows and fields as a roadside cycle path to Füssen and thus the end of the Allgäu Cycle Tour.
Day 7
Füssen — Rosshaupten — Marktoberdorf — Kaufbeuren — Bad Wörishofen

The cycle path takes you to Dietringen, Roßhaupten, Stötten and Rieder before arriving in Marktoberdorf. You then cycle towards Ebenhofen and Biessenhofen and finally reach Kaufbeuren. A short tour of the old town is definitely worthwhile. You will soon arrive in Bad Wörishofen, Kneipp’s historic place of work and your destination for today.
Day 8
Bad Wörishofen — Ottobeuren — Memmingen
Distanz: 55 km Höhe (+): 430m Höhe (-): 460m

Easy climbs, forest and meadow paths as well as views of the distant mountain peaks lead you to your next intermediate destination: Ottobeuren. Before you reach the town, you can already see the basilica. The cycle tour itself takes you right through the center of Ottobeuren. The basilica and the monastery are particularly worth seeing here. You leave Ottobeuren again in the direction of Westerheim. You will reach the town of Memmingen via field paths and other routes.

From there, you first have to overcome one of the first challenging climbs to reach Oberbinnwang and Unterbinnwang. After a flat hill profile followed by more hills, you reach Leutkirch. A beautiful panorama now accompanies you all the way to Bad Wurzach. The castle of Bad Wurzach, whose centerpiece is the staircase, is well worth seeing.

The route also takes you past several ponds, with the opportunity to swim in the Holzmühleweiher pond. On the way from Wolfegg to Waldburg, on the hill of the Loreto Chapel, you have a good view of the Zugspitze massif and the Bernese Alps in good weather. Follow the path and you will find more breathtaking views; among other things, you can see as far as Lichtenstein, Austria, Lake Constance and Switzerland.
