Feuer und Eis partner tour

Cycle tour Venice — Trieste — Istria

from 849,- per person

The starting point of this cycle tour along the Adriatic is the lagoon city of Venice. You pass the classic beach resorts of Jesolo and Caorle, where there is always the opportunity for a refreshing swim. So don’t forget your swimsuit on this cycle tour. But there is also plenty to discover away from these beaches: the interior of Friuli Venezia Giulia has countless corners with a very special charm. Medieval fortified towns, Roman excavations, typical Italian piazzas and Venetian-influenced buildings make visitors forget time and space. While the Adriatic Sea stretches quietly and calmly on one side, the Julian Alps rise majestically on the other. The tour ends in Croatia on the Istrian peninsula. The return journey to Venice is possible by boat.

Itinerary / Stages

Arrival Venice mainland/Mestre
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Individual arrival at the starting hotel on the mainland of Venice (Mestre). The Serenissima with all its magnificent buildings invites you to take a first tour. The lagoon city of Venice is easily accessible by public transport (bus stop near the hotel or train connection).
Venice mainland/Mestre Jesolo/Caorle (approx. 35 or approx. 75 km, depending on variant)
Distanz: 35 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Today you have the choice of either cycling along the dam and the lagoon to Venice or through the hinterland along the River Sile to get to Jesolo/Caorle. The first few kilometers to the lagoon city are covered by bike, then you take the ferry to Punta Sabbioni (ticket not included in the package price). Numerous fishing boats and souvenir stalls line your way along the endless beaches on the Litorale di Cavallino — a headland in the north-west of the lagoon. Before you leave Venice through the rear entrance, you have the opportunity to make a detour to the lighthouse at the far end of the island. One last time, your gaze wanders over the lagoon city and its islands. On the way to Jesolo, you can hardly resist the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the cool water. Spend the night in Jesolo or Caorle. If you opt for the alternative through the hinterland, you will cycle along the River Sile. The name of this river is derived from the Latin silet, which means to be silent, calm, precisely because the natural river always carries a constant volume of water and flows calmly. Passing the ruins of the Torre Caligo, a tower from the Middle Ages that rises up near the Caligo canal of the same name, you arrive directly in Jesolo.
Jesolo/Caorle — Concordia Sagittaria/Portogruaro
Distanz: 35 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Along the coast and past the last fishermen’s huts, you first reach Caorle, a small seaside resort. Now it’s time to say goodbye to the sea for the time being, the mainland sets the direction and the Julian Alps appear on the horizon. In the heyday of the Venetian Republic, Portogruaro, located inland, was an important river port of the Serenissima. Even today, many still claim that Portogruaro is probably the most Venetian town in the interior of the country. And they are probably not entirely wrong when you look at the many magnificent buildings and palaces, which are characterized by Venetian elements.
Concordia Sagittaria/Portogruaro Grado/Aquileia
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
There is also plenty to discover away from the beaches on the Adriatic: Roman ruined cities, ancient churches and secluded landscapes on the edge of the lagoon. From Marano Lagunare, take the boat to just before Aquileia, once a major city of the Roman Empire. Excavations of the Roman city can be visited in the open air and in two museums.
Grado/Aquileia Trieste
Distanz: 80 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
At the beginning of today’s stage, you cycle through the hinterland of Trieste into a barren rocky landscape criss-crossed by caves, before returning to the sea, to a coastal area of unique beauty. Where the karst plateau plunges into the deep blue water and the white cliffs rise vertically above the sea, you follow the coastal road through suggestive villages such as Duino, Sistiana, Miramare and Barcola. You should take time to visit the romantic castle of Miramare overlooking the bay of Grignano in the middle of a magnificent park where more than 2000 plant species thrive. The city of the same name, once the port metropolis of the Habsburg Empire, rises above the Gulf of Trieste, where you will spend the evening.
Trieste Piran/Portoro
Distanz: 35 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
After just a few kilometers, it’s time to say goodbye to Italy. In Slovenia, you cycle mainly through well-known seaside resorts such as Koper (Capodistria) and Izola (Isola dIstria) to Piran (Pirano) or Portoro (Portorose), a spa town on the Slovenian Riviera. The slightly longer version of this stage leads through the Val Rosandra valley in the hinterland.
Piran/Portoro Pore? (approx. 70 km)
Distanz: 70 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Cycle past the salt marshes of Se?ovlje, where sea salt is extracted by natural evaporation on huge areas, and cross the border into Croatia. The route continues through the Croatian part of Istria, the largest peninsula in the Adriatic, on slightly hilly terrain to Pore?, the most important coastal town on the west coast of Istria. Be sure to visit the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Individual departure
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Individual departure or possibility of extension.
