From Füs­sen and its fairy­ta­le cast­les, the rou­te fol­lows the tur­quoi­se-green Lech to Tyrol. Alpi­ne pas­tu­res, huts and poin­ted moun­tain peaks as far as the eye can see. In the Leu­t­asch high val­ley, you fol­low the Way of St. James through moor­land and forests, past high rock faces and stee­p­ly down into the Inn val­ley. A trans­fer takes you up to the Reschen Pass in Ita­ly, whe­re the rou­te leads via Schwarz­see and Grün­see to the huge Reschen­see lake. The sun­ken church tower greets you from afar. You hike through the pic­tures­que Vinsch­gau Val­ley with its sun­ny slo­pes, apple orchards and snow-cap­ped peaks to the Medi­ter­ra­ne­an spa town of Meran, whe­re you toast your hiking tour through the Alps on the pro­me­na­de of the wild­ly rus­hing Pas­ser river. 

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Jour­ney to Füssen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Stroll through the pic­tures­que old town and visit the many his­to­ric buil­dings and char­ming street cafés. You should also plan to visit the roy­al cast­les on your day of arrival. 
Day 2
Füs­sen — Ehrwald
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 500m Höhe (-): 400m
Cross the Lech Gor­ge at the rus­hing Lech Falls and hike along the Alpen­ro­sen­weg trail over to the Alp­see. From the vie­w­ing point you have the best views of Neu­schwan­stein. Past rock faces up to the Stern­schan­ze, whe­re you cross the bor­der into Tyrol and arri­ve in Pflach. Optio­nal­ly con­ti­nue through the bird sanc­tua­ry, up to the vie­w­ing tower in the Lech flood­plains to Reut­te and by train to Ehrwald. 
Day 3
Ehr­wald — Leutasch
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 550m
A won­derful alpi­ne tour awaits you: lea­ve the val­leys on the Alte-Mühl-Steig and take the gon­do­la to the Ehr­wal­der Alm. Fol­low the Koa­ti­gen path to the Igel­see lake, whe­re the hig­hest rock need­les are reflec­ted. Lei­su­re­ly through the Gais­tal val­ley to num­e­rous alpi­ne pas­tu­res, whe­re you can stop for but­ter­milk and Kai­ser­schmarrn pan­ca­kes. Con­ti­nuing down the val­ley, you reach the Kneipp faci­li­ty by the rus­hing Salz­bach stream. 
Day 4
Leu­t­asch — Nauders
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 200m Höhe (-): 700m
You hike along the Wei­dach­se lake through secluded forests and moor­land along the Jakobs­weg trail to the crossing at Buch­ner Höhe. The view from the Rop­fer­stubm is sim­ply fan­ta­stic. Under the rock faces of the Hohe Mun­de down into the green Inn­tal val­ley. After visi­ting the pil­grimage church in the his­to­ric mar­ket town of Telfs, a trans­fer takes you on a pan­o­r­amic dri­ve into the Tyro­lean Ober­land to Nau­ders on the Reschen Pass. 
Day 5
Nau­ders — Reschen / surroundings
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 550m Höhe (-): 850m
Take the cable car to the Mutz­kopf, whe­re you start your tour to Schwarz­see and Grün­see. Climb ste­adi­ly up to the Drei­län­der­stein, whe­re you are right on the bor­der bet­ween Ita­ly, Aus­tria and Switz­er­land. The high-alti­tu­de trail leads you to the popu­lar Rescher­alm, whe­re you can enjoy deli­cious South Tyro­lean spe­cial­ties. Final­ly, the huge Lake Reschen awaits you, along the shores of which you hike to your destination. 
Day 6
Reschen / sur­roun­dings — Schlanders
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 450m Höhe (-): 850m
Admi­re the church of Graun, which is sub­mer­ged in the lake, on the bus ride to St. Valen­tin. Snow-cover­ed moun­ta­ins are reflec­ted in Lake Hai­der­see, from who­se shores you make your way up to Lake Fau­ler­see and across moun­tain mea­dows to the tran­quil vil­la­ge of Bur­geis. Across colorful mea­dows and sun­ny moun­tain slo­pes to Chur­burg Cast­le in Schlu­derns and by train to Schlanders. 
Day 7
Silan­dro — Merano
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 600m Höhe (-): 750m
On a pan­o­r­amic high-level trail along sun­ny slo­pes to Vez­zan and up to the sus­pen­si­on bridge in the shady gor­ge over the Tis­ser moun­tain stream. The spec­ta­cu­lar Lat­schand­er Waal­weg trail runs high abo­ve the Etsch­tal val­ley and leads you direct­ly through the viney­ards to the cast­le in Kas­tel­bell. Final­ly, take the Vinsch­gau train to the Medi­ter­ra­ne­an spa town of Mer­ano, whe­re you can toast to a suc­cessful crossing of the Alps.

This eight-day hiking tour bet­ween the All­gäu and South Tyrol is clas­si­fied as a moun­tain hike. The rou­te leads along varied moun­tain paths and sure­foo­ted­ness is requi­red in some sec­tions. With a solid basic level of fit­ness, the dai­ly wal­king times of up to five hours beco­me a won­derful expe­ri­ence in the midst of nature.

Good stami­na and a solid basic fit­ness level are requi­red for the dai­ly hikes of up to 5 hours. The dai­ly rou­tes run along good and, abo­ve all, very varied moun­tain paths, on which sure­foo­ted­ness is requi­red in some sec­tions. Some of the rou­tes can be shor­ten­ed by public transport. 
Other notes
To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. This tour is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with redu­ced mobility.
