Pure hiking plea­su­re awaits you on our trip bet­ween the Bava­ri­an capi­tal of Munich and the Olym­pic town of Gar­misch. On the first part of the trip, you can admi­re water in all its forms: the blue Isar, gurg­ling water­falls, babb­ling brooks and the impres­si­ve Bava­ri­an lake land­scape with the famous Lake Starn­berg and Lake Kochel­see, which is framed by moun­ta­ins. This leads you to the magni­fi­cent moun­tain regi­on around Gar­misch, which has ever­y­thing you could wish for in a fan­ta­stic hiking regi­on: impres­si­ve moun­tain sce­n­ery, high-alti­tu­de hikes with cable car rides and tra­di­tio­nal Alpi­ne huts ser­ving Bava­ri­an specialties.

Indi­vi­du­al arri­val at the start­ing hotel in Munich. If you arri­ve ear­ly, use the time to explo­re the capi­tal of the Free Sta­te of Bavaria. 
Munich — Schäftlarn
Distanz: 12 km Höhe (+): 200m Höhe (-): 100m
From the Bava­ri­an metro­po­lis, you hike along the Isar through forests and mea­dows. Along the Way of St. James to the famous Schäft­larn monas­tery, whe­re you can enjoy Bava­ri­an deli­ca­ci­es and fresh­ly bre­wed beer in the monas­tery beer gar­den. A short, steep climb takes you from the Isar val­ley to Schäftlarn. 
Schäft­larn — Bernried
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 150m Höhe (-): 150m
You hike through the impres­si­ve Mai­sin­ger Gor­ge to Mai­sin­ger See, an idyl­lic moor­land lake in the midd­le of a dream­li­ke land­scape. The rou­te con­ti­nues to Pos­sen­ho­fen, whe­re Empress Sis­si spent her child­hood. Past the Rose Island and Sis­si’s bel­oved Feldafing lido on the idyl­lic shore path of Lake Starnberg. 
Bern­ried — Kochel 
Distanz: 16 km Höhe (+): 50m Höhe (-): 50m
After a mor­ning visit to the Bene­dic­ti­ne monas­tery in Bern­ried, you walk through Bern­rie­der Park and pic­tures­que natu­re reser­ves along the water’s edge. You soon reach See­s­haupt, the sou­thern end of Lake Starn­berg. This is whe­re the uni­que­ly beau­tiful Oster­seen lake dis­trict beg­ins, whe­re you can enjoy won­derful walks and swim­ming. You have fan­ta­stic views of the Zug­spit­ze from the lar­ge Oster­see lake, which is home to many dif­fe­rent water birds. 
Rest day or cir­cu­lar hike Kochelsee
Distanz: 11 km Höhe (+): 200m Höhe (-): 200m
A day to relax and enjoy a land­scape that many famous artists such as Franz Marc and Kan­din­sky great­ly app­re­cia­ted. Fol­low our hiking sug­ges­ti­on to the Lain­bach water­falls, which pour impres­si­ve­ly into a gor­ge. Fol­low the rocky path around the Kochel­see lake to Schleh­dorf and return to Kochel by boat. 
Kochel — Wallgau
Distanz: 7 km Höhe (+): 750m Höhe (-): 0m
The first moun­tain stage awaits you today! Your hike takes you to the famous Her­zog­stand on the bridle path that King Lud­wig used to reach his hun­ting lodge. Once at the top, you can take a well-ear­ned break in the legen­da­ry beer gar­den or climb up to the Her­zog­stand, whe­re you can see as far as Munich and the high moun­ta­ins from the pan­ora­ma pavi­li­on. The cable car takes you effort­less­ly down into the val­ley, whe­re you take the bus to Wallgau. 
Wall­gau Garmisch
Distanz: 16 km Höhe (+): 950m Höhe (-): 100m
Final­ly, a fan­ta­stic sum­mit tour on the Wank is on your pro­gram. You climb up through the deep Finz­bach­klamm gor­ge to the Fin­zalm, a beau­tiful­ly situa­ted litt­le rest stop. Con­ti­nue to the Ester­bergalm, whe­re you can for­ti­fy yours­elf with hut spe­cial­ties befo­re the final ascent through the forest to the sum­mit. From the top, you can see the enti­re Zug­spit­ze mas­sif and Wet­ter­stein moun­ta­ins direct­ly oppo­si­te and the town deep below you — an unfor­gettable sight! Now take the com­for­ta­ble cable car down to Garmisch.

Tour cha­rac­ter
The first part of your hiking week is lei­su­re­ly and only slight­ly hil­ly through the foot­hills of the Alps. In bet­ween, the­re is a rest day with an opti­on to walk around the lake befo­re hea­ding into the moun­ta­ins towards Gar­misch. Final­ly, enjoy two hiking stages with alpi­ne pas­tu­res and a magni­fi­cent moun­tain pan­ora­ma. All in all, a hiking tour full of enjoy­ment, with dai­ly wal­king times of up to 5 hours, with an easier and a more spor­ty opti­on on each of the two moun­tain days.

High­lights and sights along the route
Mai­sin­ger See: Through the impres­si­ve Mai­sin­ger Gor­ge you reach the idyl­lic moor­land lake, which pro­vi­des the per­fect pho­to motif in the midst of a fan­ta­stic land­scape back­drop. Sou­thern end of Lake Starn­berg: The uni­que­ly beau­tiful Oster­seen lake dis­trict beg­ins from here. Whe­ther hiking or swim­ming, you are spoi­led for choice! The Zug­spit­ze: 2,968 meters high, it is the hig­hest peak in the Wet­ter­stein moun­tain ran­ge and also Ger­many’s hig­hest moun­tain. Enjoy the impres­si­ve view and then relax on the lift down to Garmisch.
