You’ll begin your hiking trip in Ster­zing, a char­ming Alpi­ne town with Ita­li­an flair and a medieval cha­rac­ter. From the­re, your rou­te takes you south through idyl­lic val­leys and over gent­le Alpi­ne pas­ses to Mer­ano, known for its pic­tures­que alleys, Medi­ter­ra­ne­an vege­ta­ti­on, and ele­gant pro­me­na­des. The jour­ney con­ti­nues to Cor­ti­na d’Ampezzo, the famous moun­tain resort nest­led amid the maje­s­tic Dolo­mi­tes. On easy to modera­te­ly dif­fi­cult trails, you’ll dis­co­ver a fasci­na­ting varie­ty of land­scapes, from lush green alpi­ne mea­dows and crys­tal-clear moun­tain lakes to South Tyrol’s sun-dren­ched viney­ards. This lei­su­re­ly hiking trip com­bi­nes Italy’s zest for life with the per­fect blend of exer­cise, natu­re, and culture.

Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val in Sterzing
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Wel­co­me to Ster­zing, the nor­t­hern­most town in Ita­ly. Enjoy your arri­val day with a lei­su­re­ly stroll through the char­ming old town with its colorful faca­des, invi­ting cafés and the spe­cial mix of Tyro­lean tra­di­ti­on and Ita­li­an lifestyle. 
Day 2
Ster­zing — Mühl­bach — Bru­neck / Reischach
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 470m Höhe (-): 1140m
A trans­fer takes you to Mühl­bach in the mor­ning, from whe­re a short public bus ride takes you to Roden­eck Alm, the start­ing point of the stage. You hike across the sun­ny high pla­teau of the Lüs­ner-Roden­ecker Alm. Enjoy the magni­fi­cent view of the wide Bri­xen basin, the Eisack Val­ley and the Dolo­mi­tes. The hike takes you past seve­ral small moun­tain lakes up to the Ast­joch with a 360° pan­o­r­amic view. Seve­ral refresh­ment stops along the way invi­te you to lin­ger and enjoy. From the Ast­joch it’s downhill, and tho­se who wish can make a short detour to the Elle­ner Kreuz. The rou­te con­ti­nues via the Wal­der Alm, a small, rustic moun­tain pas­tu­re with a won­derful view down to Mon­tal. Over­night stay in Bru­neck / Reischach. 
Day 3
Bru­neck / Rei­schach — Kron­platz — Prags­er Wild­see — Prags 
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 670m Höhe (-): 1400m
In the mor­ning, take the cable car (ticket included) to the famous ski and hiking moun­tain Kron­platz. The des­cent takes you over the Fur­kel Pass into the Fanes-Sen­nes-Brai­es Natu­re Park, one of the lar­gest pro­tec­ted are­as in South Tyrol. From the Foje­döra high moun­tain pas­tu­re, you hike in the shadow of the impo­sing See­ko­fel mas­sif to the Prags­er Wild­see lake, the pearl of the Dolo­mi­te lakes. Expe­ri­en­ced hikers have the opti­on of exten­ding the stage via the high alpi­ne lake. 
Day 4
Brai­es — Pra­to Piaz­za — Hell­tal — Höhen­stein Val­ley — Cortina
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 940m Höhe (-): 850m
Along­side the Hohe Gaisl and the Kreuz­ko­fel group, the Plät­z­wie­se is one of the most popu­lar hiking are­as in the coun­try. This regi­on is par­ti­cu­lar­ly attrac­ti­ve to visi­tors due to its extra­or­di­na­ry flo­ra and wild lakes. Start­ing from Pra­to Piaz­za, you reach the Hell­tal val­ley via the Stru­del­kopf. This stage offers you a uni­que view of the Hohe Gaisl, the Three Peaks, the Tofa­na and Mon­te Cristallo. 
Day 5

We recom­mend that you do not orga­ni­ze your arri­val and depar­tu­re until after this dead­line has passed.

Get­ting There
RAIL: Regu­lar train con­nec­tions lead direct­ly to Sterzing/Vipiteno via Inns­bruck and the Bren­ner Pass. The train sta­ti­on is only a few minu­tes’ walk from the town cen­ter. BY CAR: Coming from the north, you can reach Vipi­te­no via the Inn­tal high­way (A12) and then via the Bren­ner high­way (A13/A22). Take the Sterzing/Vipiteno exit, then it is only a few minu­tes to the town center. 
Natu­re of the Tour
The tour is modera­te­ly dif­fi­cult and requi­res a good basic level of fit­ness and sure­foo­ted­ness. It runs along very well-main­tai­ned hiking trails, forest roads and paths. The­re are no clim­bing pas­sa­ges or hea­vi­ly expo­sed sec­tions. Nevert­hel­ess, it is an advan­ta­ge if you are reason­ab­ly free from gid­di­ness. If you are not fit or the wea­ther is not play­ing ball, it is usual­ly pos­si­ble to tra­vel to the next stage desti­na­ti­on by public trans­port or cab. 
Other Infor­ma­ti­on
To ensu­re a stress-free start to your trip, we gene­ral­ly recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening. Some tours begin as ear­ly as noon; in tho­se cases, we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re. We’d be hap­py to book an extra night for you right away. Your indi­vi­du­al return trip takes place on the last day of the trip. The distances lis­ted are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al distances tra­ve­led. This trip is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with limi­t­ed mobility.
