Feuer und Eis own tour

KAT Walk Alpine

from 984,- per person

The KAT Walk Alpin offers long-distance hiking fans a mountain experience in a class of its own. Discover the sunny side of the Kitzbühel Alps on 6 daily stages, 106 km and over 6,350 meters in altitude! The first stages of the tour lead from Hopfgarten to the most beautiful places in the Brixental side valleys in pure, unspoilt nature. On the later stages, you will experience the famous Hahnenkamm with the Ski World Cup town of Kitzbühel and reach your destination via the lively St. Johann in Tirol: the beautiful St. Ulrich in the Pillerseetal valley. Hiking here means switching off, leaving everyday life behind, exploring traditional villages and enjoying fantastic mountain scenery with fresh Alpine air. Of course, tasty Tyrolean delicacies in rustic mountain huts and warm hosts along the way are a must, as it is precisely this hospitality that makes this little corner of the world so special.

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Individual arrival in Hopfgarten im Brixental
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Arrive relaxed in Hopfgarten im Brixental and enjoy the day.
Day 2
Hopfgarten im Brixental — Kelchsau
Distanz: 20 km Höhe (+): 800m Höhe (-): 650m
The varied route first leads slightly uphill through forests and meadows, past the magnificent farms of the Penningberg. After a short, flat stretch towards Innerpenningberg, the second ascent begins to the rustic Haag Alm (not managed, trough with chilled drinks available for self-service). With no significant difference in altitude, you reach the Höhenbrandalm, where the descent begins via a forest path to the stage destination of Kelchsau. Kelchsau is also home to some of the most beautiful wooden houses and farms.
Day 3
Kelchsau — Windau
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 1140m Höhe (-): 1100m
Alpine pasture hike with great views. The route leads along easy to moderately difficult paths and forest trails, the ascents are moderate and only a little steeper in short sections. However, with around 1,200 meters of altitude difference, you do need to be in good physical condition. Along the route, you will pass countless mountain pastures. The alpine writer Sepp Kahn lived on the Untere Lärchenbergalm. He recorded the life of a dairyman in his diaries. The highest point of the tour: the Lodron is one of the best panoramic mountains in the Kitzbühel Alps with a 360° view from the glacier-covered Hohe Tauern to the Wilder Kaiser.
Day 4
Windau — Aschau
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 1050m Höhe (-): 900m
Varied hike in absolute tranquillity. Past several historic alpine buildings and a high moor near the Hintenkarscharte, as well as a waterfall close to the stage finish. Distinct areas of alpine roses above the Scheibenschlag Hochalm. Fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, the ice giants of the Hohe Tauern and the striking summit of the Großer Rettenstein, which is close enough to touch. The paths are mostly not too difficult, only classified as moderately difficult in the area on both sides of the Hintenkarscharte. Due to the length of around nineteen kilometers, you should be in good physical condition. If you are staying overnight in Kirchberg, take the bus from Aschau to Kirchberg.
Day 5
Aschau — Kitzbühel
Distanz: 16 km Höhe (+): 1050m Höhe (-): 1300m
If you have spent the night in Kirchberg, take the bus back to Aschau in the morning. On the trail of the legendary Hahnenkamm race. Get a taste of the World Cup atmosphere along the Streif race course with explanatory information boards and famous sections of the course such as the Hausbergkante or the Mausefalle. The day’s destination is the town center of the most legendary sports town in the Kitzbühel Alps!
Day 6
Kitzbühel — St. Johann in Tirol
Distanz: 21 km Höhe (+): 1250m Höhe (-): 1300m
Stamina-demanding stage over the famous Kitzbüheler Horn to St. Johann in Tirol, which you can shorten with the help of several cable cars. Views in all directions, a well-tended alpine flower garden and several places to stop for refreshments make this stage a special experience! Spectacular path on the descent from the Horn to the Harschbichl.
Day 7
St. Johann in Tirol — St. Ulrich am Pillersee
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 1000m Höhe (-): 800m
Varied hike to a secluded plateau with various karst formations and dry alpine meadows. Mountain pine areas, diverse mixed forests and views in all directions round off this mountain experience. The route runs along paths, meadow paths and tracks and is classified as moderately difficult. In the last third of the tour, there is also the opportunity to stop off at the rustic Winterstelleralm.
Day 8
Individual departure
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
With your Kitzbühel Alps Guest Card you can travel back from Ortisei to Hopfgarten by bus and train free of charge.
