The daily changing relief of the terrain provides impressive variety and the farmed alpine pastures along the way make their contribution. Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Individual arrival in Hopfgarten im Brixental
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Arrive relaxed in Hopfgarten im Brixental and enjoy the day.
Day 2
Hopfgarten im Brixental — Brixen im Thale
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 1212m Höhe (-): 1020m
This stage of the KAT Walk Compact is a panoramic hike from the very first step. The gondola lift ride takes you to the alpine pastures below the Hohe Salve. This is followed by an easy ascent to the Hohe Salve, one of the best panoramic mountains in Tyrol. Austria’s highest pilgrimage church is located right at the summit. The descent via the Salvensee and Filzalmsee lakes is via picturesque paths. In Hochbrixen, you can take the gondola lift again for the rest of the descent or continue on a path down to Brixen im Thale with its imposing double-towered church.
Day 3
Brixen im Thale — Kirchberg in Tirol
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 1000m Höhe (-): 950m
The ascent to the Brixenbachalm along an artistically designed Way of the Cross is the first highlight of the day. You reach the Wiegalm, picturesquely nestled in a saddle, through open forest and alpine pasture terrain. From here, it is only a short climb up the long ridge of the Gaisberg. The geological structure of the uppermost area on the Gaisberg also changes the landscape and vegetation: limestone dominates with karst phenomena and mountain pine growth. The summit also offers a wonderful 360 degree panoramic view. The descent through a beautiful mixed forest can be shortened at the end by taking a chairlift.
Day 4
Kirchberg in Tirol — Kitzbühel
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 1000m Höhe (-): 1050m
The third stage of the KAT Walk follows in the footsteps of the legendary Hahnenkamm race. You get a taste of the World Cup atmosphere: along the Streif race course, information boards explain famous sections of the course such as the Hausbergkante or the Mausefalle (descent also possible by cable car). The day’s destination is the town center of the most legendary sports town in the Alps: Kitzbühel!
Day 5
Kitzbühel — St. Johann in Tirol
Distanz: 21 km Höhe (+): 1250m Höhe (-): 1350m
Stamina-demanding stage over the famous Kitzbüheler Horn to St. Johann in Tirol, which you can shorten with the help of several cable cars. Views in all directions, a well-tended alpine flower garden and several places to stop for refreshments make this stage a special experience! Spectacular path on the descent from the Horn to the Harschbichl. Mountain carts are also available at the middle station of the Harschbichlbahn, which can be used to speed down into the valley. If you have time, it’s also worth visiting the Hornpark climbing forest near the middle station.
Day 6
St. Johann in Tirol — St. Ulrich am Pillersee
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 1000m Höhe (-): 800m
Varied hike to a secluded plateau with various karst formations and dry alpine meadows. Mountain pine areas, diverse mixed forests and views in all directions round off this mountain experience. The route runs along paths, meadow paths and tracks and is classified as moderately difficult. In the last third of the tour, there is also the opportunity to stop off at the rustic Winterstelleralm.
Day 7
Individual departure
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
With your Kitzbühel Alps Guest Card you can travel back from Ortisei to Hopfgarten by bus and train free of charge.
