Lake Constance-Königssee cycle route: classic without luggage transfer

from 898,- per person

The Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path runs along the northern edge of the Alps. It leads through the Allgäu, Bavarian Swabia and Upper Bavaria, where charming villages meet traditional health resorts and spas. The starting point of the cycle route is Lindau, from where you set off into the hilly Allgäu. After impressive views of the Allgäu Alps, the Zugspitze and the Tannheim mountains, you reach Hohenschwangau, where King Ludwig II’s world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle is located. Another highlight is the Wieskirche church in Steingaden, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Benediktbeuern, you can visit the impressive Benedictine monastery with over 1,250 years of history. The cycle route continues to Bad Tölz on the Isar and through picturesque Upper Bavarian countryside to the lakes Tegernsee and Schliersee, before finally reaching Chiemsee, for which you should take your time. You can reach the Fraueninsel by boat and then cross over to the Herreninsel, where another magnificent castle from the time of King Ludwig II awaits. The route leads via Traunstein to Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden, where the destination of the journey lies in the Berchtesgaden National Park. The Königssee is the crowning glory of a majestic cycle tour.

Arrival and first overnight stay in Lindau on Lake Constance
Lindau — Oberstaufen
Distanz: 53 km Höhe (+): 630m Höhe (-): 230m
From Lindau on Lake Constance, the route first leads along the Leiblach river, which also marks the border with Austria, and a little later up into the hilly Allgäu region. Farms and small villages scattered between forests and pastures characterize the landscape. The first stage leads to Oberstaufen via Hergenweiler, Maria-Thann and Röthenbach.
Oberstaufen — Füssen
Distanz: 81 km Höhe (+): 740m Höhe (-): 750m
The second stage leads from Oberstaufen around the Staufner Berg (1032m). The route leads through the Konstanzer Ach valley to the Großer Alpsee and on past the Kleiner Alpsee to Immenstadt. Continue south along the Iller cycle path to Sonsthofen, where you cross the Iller. The route continues north again past Agathazeller Moos, about 4 km north of Sonthofen, to Rettenberg at the foot of the Grünten massif with the 1730 m high Übelhorn. From here the tour continues uphill, past the Rottach reservoir, via Memersch (at 1000m above sea level the highest point on the entire Bodensee-Königsee cycle route), Oy-Mittelberg and Maria Rain to Nesselwang, at the foot of Edelsberg (1629m) and Alpspitze (1575m). From Nesselwang, the route takes in views of the Allgäu Alps, Zugspitze and Tannheim mountains through forests and fields past small villages to Hopfen am See and Füssen.
Füssen — Blue Land
Distanz: 72 km Höhe (+): 620m Höhe (-): 750m
From the start in Hopfen am See or Füssen, the route now takes you past Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. In addition to the Forggensee and Bannwaldsee lakes, there are seven large and numerous smaller lakes here. The highest mountains are the Säugling (2047m) and the Tegelberg (1880m), which can be reached by cable car. The Schwansee and Alpsee lakes are somewhat hidden away in a unique mountain setting. Via Schwangau, the route then leads past the Bannwaldsee lake to Trauchgau. The route continues from Trauchgau along country lanes and small side roads via the Wieskirche church and Wildsteig over into the Halbammer valley and down to Altenau. From here, the route leads past the Altenauer Moor nature reserve via Saulgrub to Bad Kohlgrub. From Bad Kohlgrub, the route continues downhill to Grafenaschau and along the foot of the Aschau mountains — past the Murnauer and Eschenloher Moos nature reserve.
Blue country — Kochelsee — Bad Tölz
Distanz: 46 km Höhe (+): 310m Höhe (-): 320m
The fourth stage leads from Eschenlohe along the Loisach and past the Schwaiganger stud farm, the largest horse stud farm in Bavaria, to Kochel am See with almost no ascents. Kochelsee lies at the foot of the 1731 m high Herzogstand, behind which the Walchensee, 200 m higher, is hidden. The route continues flat, at the foot of the mountains, through the wet meadows of the Loisach moors to Benediktbeuern with a view of the Benediktenwand (1800m). The route continues past Bad Heilbrunn, between Blomberg (1248m) and Stallauer Weiher, to Bad Tölz on the Isar.
Bad Tölz — Tegernsee — Schliersee — Rosenheim region
Distanz: 80 km Höhe (+): 840m Höhe (-): 1030m
The fifth stage leads from Bad Tölz along country lanes and side roads with gentle ups and downs to Greiling, Reichersbeuern and through Waakirchen. From here continue to Gmund am Tegernsee and via Hausham and Schliersee to Fischbachau. The route continues around the Wendelstein (1838m) and the mountains in front of it, through forests and fields down into the Mangfallebene to Bad Feilnbach and Au.
Rosenheim region — Chiemsee South region
Distanz: 60 km Höhe (+): 460m Höhe (-): 320m
From here, the route continues slightly downhill through the moss to Neubeuern / Altenmarkt am Inn. From Altenmarkt, the route goes slightly uphill via Rohrdorf and a little later along the A8 to Frasdorf. From here it is not far to Aschau im Chiemgau. The route leads slightly downhill to Bernau, at the foot of the Kampenwand (1668m) and at the south-western end of Lake Chiemsee. Without any major ascents, the stage then runs between the mountains Hochfelln at 1664m and Hochgern at 1633m and the moors in front of Lake Chiemsee via Grassau to the village of Bergen. Between Bergen and Siegsdorf there is another small climb to overcome.
Siegsdorf — Berchtesgaden/Königssee
Distanz: 80 km Höhe (+): 630m Höhe (-): 710m
The last stage is one of the leisurely ones. It initially leads from Siegsdorf along the Traun to Traunstein. There is a small but steep ascent here. Then it’s a gentle up and down across the plateau and back down to Teisendorf, situated at the foot of the Teisenberg (1333m). Along the Ramsaubach stream, the route then leads past Lake Höglwörth without any major climbs and via Anger into the Rupertiwinkel to Piding, close to the Saalach and Bad Reichenhall. From Piding along the Saalach to Bad Reichenhall, at the foot of the Latentgebirge and on the edge of the Untersberg National Park. From Bad Reichenhall, the route then leads up to Bayerisch Gmain and along the narrow valley between the Berchtesgadener Hochthron (1972m) and Predigtstuhl (1688m) to Berchtesgaden. From Berchtesgaden it is only a stone’s throw (approx. 30 min.) to the end of the long-distance cycle route. The Königssee lake, located in the national park of the same name, is only around 6 kilometers away from Berchtesgaden. It’s up to you whether you cycle the last stretch today or take your souvenir photo at the world-famous Königssee the next morning. At the end of your tour, you can have the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path certificate issued free of charge at the tourist information office in Schönau.
