Lake Constance-Königssee cycle route: Munich — Salzburg section without luggage transfer

Price on request

On this variant of the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle route, you start in Munich and cycle along the Isar to the spa town of Bad Tölz. There you reach the start of the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path. The route leads through the Upper Bavarian picture-book landscape to Tegernsee, Schliersee and finally to Chiemsee, for which you should plan some time. You reach the Fraueninsel by boat and after a circumnavigation you cross over to the Herreninsel, where another magnificent castle from the time of King Ludwig II awaits you. The route leads via Traunstein to Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden. The destination of the journey lies in the middle of the alpine landscape of the Berchtesgaden National Park. The picture-perfect Königssee awaits you and perhaps you will take a short tour there before concluding your journey with the final stop in the Mozart city of Salzburg.

Itinerary / Stages

Journey to Munich
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Arrive relaxed in the state capital of Munich and explore the city’s highlights.
Munich — Isar cycle path to Bad Tölz
Distanz: 55 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Today you turn your back on Munich and cycle south along the Isar cycle path to your destination today, Bad Tölz. On your way along the Isar, you will pass through numerous towns, including Grünwald, famous for the Bavaria film studios, as well as Wolfratshausen and Geretsried. Your overnight stop today, the town of Bad Tölz, benefited from its ideal location on the Isar from an early stage. At that time, it was used by raftsmen as a means of transportation and is now a tourist attraction. The town became a spa town in 1899 and has been known as Bad Tölz ever since. Worth seeing are not only the old town, but also the Marienstift and the St. Leonhard chapel on the Kalvarienberg with a wonderful view of the Isar mountains.
Bad Tölz — Tegernsee — Schliersee — Bad Feilnbach
Distanz: 74 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
You leave Bad Tölz in a southerly direction to Gaißach station and continue along the edge of a forest to Marienstein and Gmund am Tegernsee — another highlight of Upper Bavaria. If you are in very good physical condition, we also recommend a lake circuit (20 km). However, the lake should be circumnavigated in a clockwise direction due to the heavy traffic. The route continues from Gmund via Gschwendt along the tranquil Schlierach to Schliersee and Neuhaus. Schliersee is a beautiful lake framed by mountains, whose surrounding villages have lost none of their authentic Bavarian flair over the years. From Schliersee, you cycle past Fischbachau, Sonnenreuth and Niklasreuth to Bad Feilnbach, a pretty village at the foot of the Wendelstein. Bad Feilnbach is blessed with a fairly mild climate and is a popular health resort. The climate also has a positive effect on the apple harvest, which is why the apple market in the fall is one of the highlights of the cultural landscape.
Bad Feilnbach — Siegsdorf
Distanz: 73 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
From Bad Feilnbach, follow the cycle path, slightly downhill, through the moss to Neubeuern / Altenmarkt am Inn. Neubeuern, with its picturesque market square and historic facades, transports you back to the romantic atmosphere of a bygone era, when shipping on the Inn was still the most important industry in Neubeuern. The route continues via Rohrdorf, Frasdorf and Aschau towards Bernau am Chiemsee, the Bavarian Sea. From Bernau via Grassau, the route then follows an old salt works path to Bergen, at the foot of the Hochfelln. A highlight worth seeing here is the Maxhütte, an old ironworks that has been converted into a museum. Its current terminus Siegsdorf may be a relatively small community, but it still has a special geological sensation to offer. Siegsdorf made the biggest headlines in 1985 with the announcement of the discovery of a mammoth, which is now on display in the South-East Bavarian Museum of Natural History and Mammoths.
Siegsdorf — Berchtesgaden
Distanz: 78 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
From Siegsdorf, the tour leads to Traunstein, a somewhat larger district town with 19,000 inhabitants. The salt trade shaped the townscape here. Worth seeing are the historic town square and especially the salt works district. The route continues along the Salinenweg to Lauter, Oberteisendorf and Teisendorf. Teisendorf is located in the Rupertiwinkel region, belonged to the prince-archbishopric of Salzburg for many years and is said to have been settled in Roman times. The next stop is Piding an der Saalach. From Piding, you cycle along the Alz cycle path to Bad Reichenhall, the town of the former salt (Hall) merchants. The salt museum in the old salt works provides an insight into historical and modern salt production. The town became a health resort in 1890. In addition to the museum, St. Zeno’s Minster from the 12th century is also worth a visit. This church is the largest Romanesque hall church in Bavaria. Your place to stay today is Berchtesgaden. The town owes its origins to an Augustinian canon monastery founded in 1100 and was the smallest principality in Germany in the 15th century.
Berchtesgaden — Königssee — Salzburg
Distanz: 35 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
The first major destination on your final day is Königssee. Nestled between two steep mountain slopes, it is often compared to a Scandinavian fjord and is also one of the cleanest lakes in Germany. The St. Bartholomä peninsula is the landmark of the Königssee. After a few pleasant hours at the Königssee, you continue on the Mozart cycle path via Schönau across the border into Austria to the Mozart city of Salzburg. A real must in Salzburg is a visit to Mozart’s birthplace in the famous Salzburg Getreidegasse. And finally, after an exhausting journey, you have really earned a sweet Mozartkugel.
