Hardly any body of water remains undiscovered on this cycle tour: the intensive tour is a small lake marathon, the highlights of which are Lake Ammersee, Lake Starnberg, Lake Tegernsee and Lake Schliersee. Munich — Ammersee/Herrsching
Distanz: 53 km Höhe (+): 339m Höhe (-): 196m
Your first stage starts right in the heart of Munich and runs southwest of the state capital. From here, the Ammersee cycle path first takes you via Germering and Gilching to Weßling until you finally reach Inning am Ammersee, the third largest lake in Bavaria. The municipality of Inning is a popular vacation resort in the Starnberger Fünf-Seen-Land region and therefore ideal for a short stopover. The route continues along the picturesque eastern shore of the lake via Buch and Breitbrunn to your destination for today, Herrsching. Not far from your accommodation today, on the Holy Mountain, lies the oldest place of pilgrimage in Bavaria, Andechs Monastery.
Ammersee/Herrsching — Lake Starnberg — Staffelsee — Murnau
Distanz: 60 km Höhe (+): 640m Höhe (-): 490m
From Herrsching, the route continues to the magnificent Lake Starnberg. The first port of call is Tutzing, on the western shore of Lake Starnberg. A special highlight here is the Tutzing museum ship, which houses a cabaret stage and a bistro. Further south, along the lakeshore, lies the romantic village of Seeshaupt, the birthplace and home of several well-known artists. The following section of the route stretches along the idyllic Osterseen lakes, past the Riegsee lake and then to Murnau.
Murnau — Bad Tölz
Distanz: 48 km Höhe (+): 290m Höhe (-): 320m
Today you cycle towards Kochelsee and the Loissach along the beautiful scenery of the Alpine chain to Bad Tölz. Use the remaining time here to visit the interesting old town of Tölz with its historic market street. Traditional inns also tempt you with Bavarian specialties.
Bad Tölz — Sylvensteinspeicher — Achenpass — Tegernsee
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 456m Höhe (-): 365m
From Bad Tölz, the route follows the Isar via Lenggries to the Sylvenstein reservoir. The azure blue reservoir, surrounded by mountains and forests, comes pretty close to the wild beauty of Canada without exaggerating. A short breather here is therefore highly recommended. Strengthened, you continue towards the Achenpass. Once there, you follow the route downhill to Kreuth and reach Lake Tegernsee, another gem of Upper Bavaria.
Tegernsee — Schliersee — Rosenheim region
Distanz: 64 km Höhe (+): 580m Höhe (-): 860m
Today’s section of the route runs from Gmund am Tegernsee with constantly changing uphill and downhill sections via the small villages of Gasse and Ostin to Hausham. You now follow the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path along the course of the small, romantic Schlierach river to Schliersee. Schliersee is a beautiful lake framed by mountains, whose surrounding villages have lost none of their authentic Bavarian flair over the years. Always along the shore you reach Neuhaus, from there you continue into the hinterland to Fischbachau via Hundham to Sonnenreuth. The next larger town at the foot of the Wendelstein is Bad Feilnbach, from where you then head towards Rosenheim
Bad Feilnbach — Chiemsee — Waging am See
Distanz: 67 km Höhe (+): 550m Höhe (-): 530m
The cycle tour starts in Rosenheim and leads through the charming towns of Frasdorf and Aschau to Bernau am Chiemsee, also known as the Bavarian Sea. From there, you follow the Chiemsee riverside cycle path and continue towards Traunstein with a view of the glistening water. The destination of this stage is Lake Waginger See, a tranquil natural gem in Upper Bavaria. Enjoy the fresh air, leave everyday life behind you and experience the relaxed atmosphere of this special lake landscape.
Waging am See — Wasserburg
Distanz: 70 km Höhe (+): 610m Höhe (-): 630m
From Waginger See, the route runs through the gently undulating landscape of Chiemgau to the northern shore of Lake Chiemsee. On predominantly quiet paths, you pass small villages where cozy refreshment stops invite you to take a break. The route continues via the monastery lake near Seeon, with the former Benedictine monastery providing a special cultural highlight. The route then continues through varied countryside to the Obinger See lake and the near-natural Ameranger See lake — ideal places for a short break or to cool off. Finally, the tour leads along tranquil side roads to Wasserburg am Inn, whose old town on an Inn peninsula makes for an impressive and atmospheric finish.
Wasserburg — Munich
Distanz: 67 km Höhe (+): 420m Höhe (-): 320m
Starting from the historic old town of Wasserburg, which lies impressively in a loop of the Inn, the stage leads westwards through a gently undulating landscape. Along quiet paths, the route passes through typical Upper Bavarian villages and open field landscapes to Grafing, where you can enjoy a break in a traditional beer garden. The route then continues through the green foothills of the Alps and reaches Ebersberg, whose extensive forest offers pleasantly shady passages and beautiful views. The proximity to the state capital becomes noticeable over the last few kilometers: You finally reach Munich via well-developed cycle paths, where lively street cafés and the special flair of the Isar metropolis make for a successful end to the tour.
