On the pul­se of the Alps 2 — From Kitz­bü­hel to the Three Peaks

We were very satis­fied with Feu­er und Eis on our last trip in 2023, which is why we boo­ked a trip with Feu­er und Eis again this year.the first sur­pri­se was when we recei­ved the digi­tal tra­vel docu­ments by email short­ly befo­re the start.there we lear­ned that this trip is not offe­red direct­ly by Feu­er und Eis but by Fun Acti­ve Tours.We were only sup­po­sed to recei­ve the prin­ted tra­vel docu­ments at the Star­ho­tel at the begin­ning of the trip, which we did­n’t like at all, becau­se you want to look at the docu­ments before­hand and not just the evening before.about the tour:Unfortunately, many sec­tions of the hike were on roads, some­ti­mes even on tar­red paths.the tour descrip­ti­ons repea­ted­ly gave rou­te num­bers, which unfort­u­na­te­ly could not be found on the signs on site.   The trans­fers all went well and the app from Fun Acti­ve Tours work­ed very well, all in all it was still a nice tour.

It was the second tour we boo­ked through Feu­er und Eis. Recei­ving the neces­sa­ry docu­ments was a bit bum­py, but this was not due to Feu­er und Eis, but to Fun Acti­ve Tours (orga­ni­zer of the trip). The docu­ments arri­ved very late, the hotel list was miss­ing and only arri­ved three days befo­re the start of the trip, after seve­ral pho­ne calls. This dimi­nis­hed the anti­ci­pa­ti­on some­what. The tour its­elf was gre­at and very impres­si­ve, but also very exhaus­ting. Howe­ver, we never took the alter­na­ti­ve rou­tes (shor­ten­ed tour), but were reward­ed for the effort with real­ly impres­si­ve views and moments!!! (a total of over 5000m up and down, 105km). The maps were good, but you also nee­ded the app from Fun Acti­ve Tours (it’s free!). This was very accu­ra­te, so you could always fol­low your loca­ti­on along the way and thus always find the sug­gested rou­te. The paths were varied, some­ti­mes paved wide hiking trails, some­ti­mes quaint, nar­row hiking trails — rare­ly crow­ded (only at the hot­spots), so that you could real­ly enjoy natu­re, moun­ta­ins and tran­quil­li­ty. The hotels we stay­ed in were all attrac­ti­ve and, abo­ve all, clean. The rooms were part­ly reno­va­ted and com­for­ta­ble, all func­tion­al and big enough, as you only stay in them for one night. You could also eat out in all the accom­mo­da­ti­on in the evening, usual­ly at reasonable pri­ces. It would actual­ly be nice if the trip was offe­red WITH half board, unfort­u­na­te­ly this was not pos­si­ble on request at Feu­er und Eis — per­haps this could be chan­ged ;-). Our abso­lu­te high­light was the Natur­ho­tel Out­side in Matrei!!! The Hotel San­ter in Tob­lach   (two nights) was a nice end to the trip becau­se of the gre­at well­ness area (insi­de and out­side) (here the rooms were a bit dark and it was quite noi­sy, due to the loca­ti­on on the main road), gre­at break­fast buffet.it would be desi­ra­ble if the return trip to Kitz­bü­hel could be orga­ni­zed che­a­per and more indi­vi­du­al­ly — we were alre­a­dy 4 peo­p­le who could have used the shut­tle (and two other tra­ve­lers had alre­a­dy boo­ked the shut­tle, so we could have been 6 in a pas­sen­ger van!) — the pri­ce of 79,-?/person seems defi­ni­te­ly too expen­si­ve and should be adjus­ted accor­ding to the num­ber of peo­p­le! All in all, we were very satis­fied again and would book through Feu­er und Eis again if neces­sa­ry!!!! They always take care of things prompt­ly (which is a bit dif­fi­cult in the tou­rist indus­try at the moment due to staff shorta­ges) and real­ly go out of their way to satis­fy the cus­to­mer!!! The trip was pre­pared in gre­at detail, but the­re was a lot of docu­men­ta­ti­on. Unfort­u­na­te­ly, the hotel addres­ses were miss­ing from the dai­ly tour descrip­ti­ons. The­r­e­fo­re, you always had to have a second docu­ment with you to know whe­re to go. It was noti­ceable for our group that, com­pared to last year’s tour, few trans­fers were orga­ni­zed and public bus con­nec­tions had to be used. The rou­te descrip­ti­ons for the indi­vi­du­al stages were quite good, but for tho­se unfa­mi­li­ar with the area, more atten­ti­on should have been paid to the strain cau­sed by the alti­tu­de dif­fe­rence. Unfort­u­na­te­ly, the­re was also no indi­ca­ti­on that we could book half board. F&E could have offe­red us this. As it was, we only had B&B and had to pay a rela­tively high pri­ce for half board. We heard from other hikers that it was pos­si­ble to book half-board for 126 euros on request at F&E. At the Gast­haus Jodl­bü­hel in Joch­berg, we were lite­ral­ly “spoon-fed” and had to pay €26 for the dish of the day and an extra €6.80 for a salad… that was outra­ge­ous. This restau­rant should be avo­ided. All in all, howe­ver, an eventful, acti­ve, but some­ti­mes very stre­nuous hiking vaca­ti­on. The orga­ni­zer should also make sure that sel­ec­ted hiking trails are not only on asphal­ted paths. We noti­ced this on the easy tour from Kitz­bü­hel to Joch­berg. 25° C in the sha­de and then per­ma­nent­ly asphal­ted paths. In the hope that things will chan­ge for the bet­ter, we will book again next year. Other­wi­se we will have to look for ano­ther provider 

Trip was super orga­ni­zed, per­fect tra­vel docu­ments. Good accom­mo­da­ti­on with one exception. 

-The tra­vel docu­ments pro­vi­ded to us, in par­ti­cu­lar the directions/route descrip­ti­ons and infor­ma­ti­on about the shut­tle and public trans­port were, wit­hout excep­ti­on, of the best qua­li­ty and always helpful.The hotels/guest hou­ses in Kitz­bü­hel (Egger), Joch­berg (Jodl­bü­hel), Mit­ter­sill (Heit­zmann) and Matrei (Hin­ter­eg­ger) were very good in terms of rooms, food and ser­vice, in stark con­trast to the accom­mo­da­ti­on in the guest house of the Eure­gio cul­tu­ral cen­ter in Tob­lach, and this for three nights! very small 3‑bed room, very bright, sim­ply fur­nis­hed (wit­hout TV) and this still aff­lic­ted with various defects (shut­ters clo­se  The only posi­ti­ve thing that can be men­tio­ned here is the fri­end­ly staff and the ple­n­ti­ful and well-orga­ni­zed (Coro­na) break­fast — it would be desi­ra­ble to pro­vi­de the “Holi­day Card Süd­ti­rol” for free use of public trans­port (see stages 4 and 5), espe­ci­al­ly if the­re is no pos­si­bi­li­ty for din­ner at the hotel.

The tour from Kitz­bü­hel to Tob­lach had obvious­ly been pre­pared by the South Tyro­lean agen­cy Fun acti­ve tours. The­re were serious short­co­mings. The tour descrip­ti­on was ina­de­qua­te. In par­ti­cu­lar, when the rou­te was unclear and the sign­pos­ting was ina­de­qua­te, we were left com­ple­te­ly in the dark, e.g. on day 3 (Joch­berg-Pass Thurn) and day 5 (from Defr­eg­gen­tal via the Gsie­ser Törl). Get­ting lost with time-con­sum­ing and exhaus­ting detours was very annoy­ing. The “nor­mal basic fit­ness level” men­tio­ned in the tour descrip­ti­on would cer­tain­ly not have been suf­fi­ci­ent, and on day 3 all the huts sug­gested for refresh­ments were pro­ba­b­ly clo­sed due to the bad wea­ther, and the recom­men­ded moun­tain rail­road (Pan­ora­m­abahn) was not run­ning. At Pass Thurn the­re was a 3‑hour wait for the next bus to Mit­ter­sill. Infor­ma­ti­on in the tour descrip­ti­on (bus time­ta­ble, cab tele­pho­ne num­bers) would have been very hel­pful here, and with a three-day stay in Tob­lach at the end of the tour, the accom­mo­da­ti­on in a very small room was not ade­qua­te. More space would have been very desi­ra­ble. Howe­ver, the Hotel Ger­ma­nia was not other­wi­se objectionable 

Over­all, it was a very nice tour with per­fect­ly orga­ni­zed trans­port, whe­ther by bus or cab. Lug­ga­ge trans­por­ta­ti­on was also gre­at — Stage 1: We hik­ed from Kitz­bü­hel over the Hah­ne­kamm to Pass Thurn. Unfort­u­na­te­ly, the refresh­ment stops are only up to kilo­me­ter 3.1 with a length of 15km. The majo­ri­ty of the rou­te is road, not so nice to hike — 2nd stage: The Pan­ora­ma Alm is real­ly worth a detour. Fan­ta­stic views, the ascent to the Pana­orm­aalm leads stee­p­ly upwards over a mea­dow, wit­hout a GPS track we would never have found the way. A dif­fe­rent rou­te should be cho­sen here- Stage 3: One of the most beau­tiful stages with a steep climb, gre­at views of the Groß­ve­ne­di­ger- Stage 4: Gre­at rou­te in beau­tiful sce­n­ery- Stage 5: Short­ly after the Schul­er Alm you have a gre­at view of the Pus­ter­tal val­ley and the Dolo­mi­tes- Stage 6: We cho­se the hike through the Rienz­tal val­ley and were so hap­py to have cho­sen it. For us, this was the roy­al stage and the most beau­tiful of all 6 stages. Not only do you have a won­derful view of the 3 Peaks, but you are only par­ti­al­ly expo­sed to the crowds of peo­p­le who are on their way around the Three Peaks. in Dob­bia­co we had din­ner at the Hotel Cris­tal­lo and were not only very satis­fied with the qua­li­ty of the food but also with the service!
