This tour from Munich to Zil­ler­tal is the first sec­tion of our Munich Venice hiking tri­lo­gy. A jour­ney from the urban pul­se to the quiet wil­der­ness of the Alps. After start­ing in the Bava­ri­an metro­po­lis, the rou­te leads through the gent­le Isar flood­plains to Bad Tölz. You then dis­co­ver the foot­hills of the Isar­win­kel Alps on a pan­o­r­amic hike up the Brauneck. The alpi­ne heart of the rou­te beg­ins behind the remo­te Jachen­au: the Kar­wen­del. Rug­ged cliffs, deep val­leys and spec­ta­cu­lar high-alti­tu­de trails cha­rac­te­ri­ze this regi­on with the Gro­ßer Ahorn­bo­den as the scenic high­light, whe­re around 2,300 anci­ent syca­mo­res stand amidst a monu­men­tal back­drop. The rou­te con­ti­nues through the next Kar­wen­del val­ley, via the Gra­mai­alm to the emer­ald green Achen­see, the lar­gest lake in Tyrol. And for tho­se who still can’t tear them­sel­ves away, the jour­ney con­ti­nues to Cor­ti­na or even to the sea.

Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val in Munich
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Wel­co­me to the Bava­ri­an capi­tal! Befo­re your hiking tour, Munich with its uni­que mix of cul­tu­re, tra­di­ti­on and joie de viv­re invi­tes you to arri­ve and get in the mood. Enjoy the view of the Alps from the Eng­lish Gar­den or a cool beer in the beer garden. 
Day 2
Munich — Gelting/Geretsried
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 50m Höhe (-): 130m
The stage beg­ins with a short train ride into the green Isar val­ley. The hike starts in Schäft­larn with a detour to the tra­di­tio­nal monas­tery befo­re you reach the Isar. Through the idyl­lic Pupplin­ger Au near Wolfrats­hau­sen, the trail leads through den­se ripa­ri­an forests, wide gra­vel are­as and quiet river­si­de paths. With a bit of luck, you may see one of the tra­di­tio­nal woo­den rafts gli­ding lei­su­re­ly down the Isar accom­pa­nied by music and a cheerful atmo­sphe­re. Con­ti­nue through the wide flood­plains to Gel­ting or Geretsried. 
Day 3
Gelting/Geretsried — Bad Tölz
Distanz: 20 km Höhe (+): 150m Höhe (-): 100m
If you have spent the night in Gel­ting, take the bus to Gerets­ried and start the stage the­re. You fol­low the glis­tening rib­bon of the Isar upstream, past pris­ti­ne river­si­de land­scapes and cozy res­t­ing places. In the distance, the moun­ta­ins draw clo­ser and the Alpi­ne foot­hills show their most char­ming side. Your desti­na­ti­on is the his­to­ric spa town of Bad Tölz with its magni­fi­cent mar­ket street. 
Day 4
Bad Tölz — Brauneck — Lenggries
Distanz: 11 km Höhe (+): 810m Höhe (-): 840m
In the mor­ning, a trans­fer will take you to the Brauneck­bahn val­ley sta­ti­on. Now climb up the ser­pen­ti­nes in a spor­ty man­ner. You will soon enjoy a beau­tiful view on your way up. Once you have pas­sed the small lake, it is not far to the pan­ora­ma restau­rant on the Brauneck. If you wish, you can climb the last few meters to the sum­mit of the Brauneck. After you have refres­hed yours­elf in the restau­rant, you can des­cend eit­her on foot or by cable car (ticket not included). Once you arri­ve at the bot­tom, hike to the vil­la­ge of Leng­gries, per­haps take a stroll through the alley­ways and check into your hotel. 
Day 5
Leng­gries — Jachen­au — Hinterriß
Distanz: 9 km Höhe (+): 670m Höhe (-): 510m
A trans­fer will take you to the Jachen­au today. From the­re, the stage leads through quiet forest paths and fra­grant mea­dows, accom­pa­nied time and again by rus­hing streams. Towards the end, the steep des­cent sud­den­ly opens up a magni­fi­cent view of the wide Riß­tal val­ley and the rug­ged peaks of the Kar­wen­del moun­ta­ins. Once you reach the bot­tom, you can eit­her take the bus to your over­night accom­mo­da­ti­on or con­ti­nue hiking. The Kar­wen­del wel­co­mes you with its wild, unta­med beauty. 
Day 6
Hin­ter­riß — Eng
Distanz: 18 km Höhe (+): 990m Höhe (-): 750m
Short trans­fer to Johan­ne­s­tal. If you have stay­ed over­night in Hin­ter­riß, you can alter­na­tively walk the­re in approx. 45 minu­tes. Now you hike through the roman­tic Johan­ne­s­tal val­ley deeper and deeper into the wild heart of the Kar­wen­del. The Fal­ken­hüt­te sits enthro­ned on a sun­ny high pla­teau, maje­s­ti­cal­ly embedded in the alpi­ne sce­n­ery. The des­cent rewards you with spec­ta­cu­lar views of the rug­ged Kar­wen­del peaks and the famous Gro­ßer Ahorn­bo­den, a natu­ral jewel of uni­que beauty. 
Day 7
Eng — Lam­s­en­joch — Pertisau
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 740m Höhe (-): 970m
After an enjoya­ble break­fast with moun­tain views, you set off on your last hiking stage. The path leads ste­adi­ly uphill, past the rustic Bins­alm and fur­ther up to the Lam­s­en­joch, accom­pa­nied by breath­ta­king views of the migh­ty Kar­wen­del peaks. The trail then gent­ly des­cends to the Gra­mai­alm via a pan­o­r­amic high trail. If you wish, you can hike on to the emer­ald green Achen­see lake in Per­tis­au. Alter­na­tively, the nost­al­gia bus will take you to Per­tis­au. From the­re, take the bus to your over­night accommodation. 
Day 8
Indi­vi­du­al departure

After a week full of exer­cise, pan­o­r­amic views and natu­re expe­ri­en­ces, it’s time to say good­bye, rich in impres­si­ons and with fresh moun­tain air in your soul. Indi­vi­du­al depar­tu­re or exten­si­on possible.

Additional information

Tour cha­rac­ter
The tour is clas­si­fied as modera­te­ly dif­fi­cult. All hikes are on well-main­tai­ned hiking trails, paths and forest tracks. You should be in good phy­si­cal con­di­ti­on to enjoy the tours. Sure­foo­ted­ness and a cer­tain head for heights are also important. The­re are no clim­bing or very expo­sed sec­tions. Good foot­wear recommended. 
Par­king
The Hotel Bau­er (Kid­ler­str. 32) offers par­king spaces for the dura­ti­on of your trip for approx. EUR 7 per day and vehic­le. You must book the par­king spaces direct­ly at the hotel in advan­ce. You will find fur­ther par­king spaces in par­king gara­ges in Munich. 
Arri­val
By car: Munich is one of the busie­st cities in Ger­ma­ny and is very easy to reach by high­way. Howe­ver, traf­fic jams are often to be expec­ted at the ends of the high­ways. Sin­ce Octo­ber 1, 2010, stric­ter envi­ron­men­tal zone regu­la­ti­ons have been in force: only cars with yel­low and green sti­ckers are allo­wed to dri­ve within the Mitt­le­rer Ring; vehic­les with red sti­ckers are pro­hi­bi­ted. TRAIN: Tra­vel to Munich Cen­tral Sta­ti­on in a rela­xed man­ner. From here you can reach your hotel by S‑Bahn or U‑Bahn. PLANE: The second lar­gest air­port in Ger­ma­ny (MUC) is easy to reach from anywhere.
Other notes
To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. This tour is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with redu­ced mobility. 
Mini­mum num­ber of participants
If a mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is requi­red for the tour to take place, this is sta­ted under Pri­ces and ser­vices. If the mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is not rea­ched, we reser­ve the right to can­cel the trip up to four weeks befo­re the date of arri­val. We recom­mend that you do not orga­ni­ze your arri­val and depar­tu­re until after this dead­line has passed.

Return jour­ney
Take the bus to Jen­bach train sta­ti­on and from the­re take the train to Munich (approx. 2 hours).
