Parts 1 and 2 of the Munich — Venice hiking trilogy: From Munich to Cortina

from 2.438,- per person

This 14-day tour combines the first two sections of our Munich Venice hiking trilogy into an impressive Alpine crossing. From the urban pulse of Munich, the trail leads through the gentle Isar floodplains to Bad Tölz and on via the panoramic Brauneck to the tranquil Jachenau. This is where the alpine heart of the tour begins: the Karwendel with its rugged cliffs, deep valleys and the Großer Ahornboden as a scenic highlight. Via the Gramaialm you reach the emerald green Achensee and finally the idyllic Zillertal. From there, the route continues over the main Alpine ridge at the Pfitscherjoch into the fascinating mountain world of South Tyrol. You hike through the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park and across the wide Prato Piazza into the spectacular Dolomite landscape around Cortina d’Ampezzo. This tour combines varied nature, alpine challenges and impressive panoramas to create an unforgettable experience.

After you have refreshed yourself in the restaurant, you can descend either on foot or by cable car (ticket not included). Distanz: 9 km Höhe (+): 670m Höhe (-): 510m

Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 740m Höhe (-): 970m

The trail then gently descends to the Gramaialm via a panoramic high trail. If you wish, you can hike on to the emerald green Achensee lake in Pertisau. Alternatively, the nostalgic bus will take you to Pertisau. From there, take the bus and train to your overnight accommodation in Fügen.

The gondola takes you effortlessly up to the Spieljoch at an altitude of almost 1,850 m and you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the mountains of the Zillertal, Karwendel and Rofan mountains and even as far as the Kitzbühel Alps and the Kaiser Mountains. A wonderful trail between mountain pines, alpine roses, Swiss stone pine trees and granite stones takes you via the Gart Alm (we recommend Kaiserschmarren) to the Loassattel and finally on to the Alpengasthaus Loas. After a rest and refreshment stop, the route takes you comfortably along a partly shady hiking trail to Hochfügen, today’s stage destination and well-known winter sports destination.

You reach the Sidanjoch, accompanied by rocks carved by the glacier ages ago. The nearby Rastkogelhütte offers a magnificent view of the Inn Valley, Karwendel and the Tux Alps. After a short ascent to the Mitterwandskopf, you follow a picturesque path past glacial forms, pools and along a mountain ridge to the Melchboden. From here, the bus takes you down the Zillertaler Höhenstraße, which is easy on the knees. Depending on where you stay overnight, continue with the Zillertalbahn to Aschau or Mayrhofen.
Day 10
Mayrhofen/Aschau — Schlegeis — Pfitschtal — Sterzing
Distanz: 13 km Höhe (+): 480m Höhe (-): 820m

In the morning, you will travel comfortably by bus via the toll road to the Schlegeis reservoir (1,800 m above sea level) for the start of today’s stage. The imposing dam wall — built for energy and water supply in the early 1970s — keeps one of Austria’s largest reservoirs and the glaciers behind it in check. You cross the border to Italy and South Tyrol in front of the managed Pfitscherjochhaus and reach the highest point of the day at 2,275 meters — the main Alpine ridge has been crossed. Through gentle alpine pastures and later shady mixed forest, you hike a first section down the Pfitschtal valley. Continue by public bus (approx. hourly connections) to Sterzing.
Day 11
Sterzing — Mühlbach — Bruneck / Reischach
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 470m Höhe (-): 1140m
After a drive in the morning, you reach Rodeneck Alm, the starting point of the stage. You hike across the sunny high plateau of the Lüsner-Rodenecker Alm. Enjoy the magnificent view of the wide Brixen basin, the Eisack Valley and the Dolomites. The hike takes you past several small mountain lakes up to the Astjoch with a 360° panoramic view. Several refreshment stops along the way invite you to linger and enjoy. From the Astjoch it’s downhill, and those who wish can make a short detour to the Ellener Kreuz. The route continues via the Walder Alm, a small, rustic mountain pasture with a wonderful view down to Montal. Overnight stay in Bruneck / Reischach.
Day 12
Bruneck / Reischach — Kronplatz — Pragser Wildsee — Prags
Distanz: 17 km Höhe (+): 670m Höhe (-): 1400m
In the morning, take the cable car (ticket included) to the famous ski and hiking mountain Kronplatz. The descent takes you over the Furkel Pass into the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, one of the largest protected areas in South Tyrol. From the Fojedöra high mountain pasture, you hike in the shadow of the imposing Seekofel massif to the Pragser Wildsee lake, the pearl of the Dolomite lakes. Experienced hikers have the option of extending the stage via the high alpine lake.
Day 13

Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 940m Höhe (-): 850m
Alongside the Hohe Gaisl and the Kreuzkofel group, the Plätzwiese is one of the most popular hiking areas in the country. This region is particularly attractive to visitors due to its extraordinary flora and wild lakes. Starting from Prato Piazza, you reach the Helltal valley via the Strudelkopf. This stage offers you a unique view of the Hohe Gaisl, the Three Peaks, the Tofana and Monte Cristallo.
Day 14
Individual departure
