Star bike tour Apulia

from 1.029,- per person

Apulia, the heel of the boot, is an enchanting region, a strip of land in the sea with a wide range of enchanting coastlines to suit all tastes. For those who want to immerse themselves in the past, Puglia offers a multitude of historical sites that tell of its ancient culture: from prehistory, Magna Graecia and the Roman Empire to the Renaissance and the splendor of the Baroque. The starting point of the journey is Alberobello, the home of the trulli, ancient stone dwellings with conical roofs built without mortar. They are so unique that they were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. For fish lovers, this region with its 800 km of coastline on two seas offers plenty of choice. You are spoiled for choice, because there really is something for everyone here: raw, marinated, as a delicious fish soup and also with cheese.

Itinerary / Stages

Journey to Alberobello
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Individual journey to the starting hotel in Alberobello.
Alberobello and surroundings
Distanz: 50 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Starting from the famous town of Trulli, you will explore the surrounding area by bike today. Cycle through vast olive groves, vineyards, fruit and almond trees to Noci, a small town with a historic center. You return to Alberobello.
Grotte di Castellana
Distanz: 45 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Today takes you on a beautiful circular route to the spectacular Castellana Caves. The stalactite cave with its labyrinth of grottos is the largest underground tourist attraction in Italy and can be visited on a guided tour. The vast halls offer wondrous stone formations, with stalagmite and stalactite formations everywhere, which took nature thousands of years to create. On the way back, enjoy the view of the Adriatic Sea.
Locorotondo — Cisternino — Ostuni
Distanz: 35 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
From Alberobello, the route today takes you through the Valle dItria to Locorotondo. The fertile valley is one of the most beautiful cultural landscapes in the south. Crooked walls made of stacked field stones tame nature. The name Locorotondo literally means round place. The town is also known as La Città del Vino Bianco (the town of white wine). Cycle on to Cisternino and Ostuni. The light-colored ring of houses that adorns the tops of the three hills of the Città Bianca can be seen from afar. Enjoy the magnificent view of the nearby sea. In the afternoon, there is a transfer by shuttle bus to Alberobello.
Rest day or cycling day to Martina Franca
Distanz: 45 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
An alternative to the rest day is a cycle tour to the baroque town of Martina Franca. The town is located right in the middle between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas in the south-east of the Murgia. Worth seeing are the Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di San Martino.
Monopoli — Polignano a Mare
Distanz: 45 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
From Alberobello you cycle to Monopoli, the most important port city between Bari and Brindisi. The route continues to Polignano a Mare. The pearl on the southern Costa di Bari impresses with its extraordinary location: it clings to the edge of a cliff and offers fantastic views of the emerald green sea. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town or enjoy a day of swimming before taking the shuttle bus back to Alberobello.
Matera, Capital of Culture 2019 and UNESCO World Heritage Site
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Today you will travel to the cultural capital Matera in the Basilicata region (transfer in the morning). It is also known as the city of the Sassi. The old town consists partly of cave settlements and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The impressive clusters of cave dwellings form independent districts that are unique in Europe.
