The Lech­weg 10 days from For­ma­rin­see to Füssen

3 stars becau­se the first 3 stages were nice to hike, but the last 3–4 stages less so. The­re are cer­tain­ly more beau­tiful hiking trails in the Alps. I would not recom­mend the Lech­weg to my fri­ends, but Feu­er & Eis as a tour ope­ra­tor would. We had a pro­blem with an inn owner on site and Feu­er & Eis hel­ped us quick­ly and pro­fes­sio­nal­ly. Thank you again for the gre­at orga­niza­ti­on and your pro­fes­sio­nal and fri­end­ly help. I would tra­vel with you again at any time :-) 

The hike was well orga­ni­zed, all the accom­mo­da­ti­ons were nice, the break­fast was good, the staff was always very fri­end­ly and hel­pful. Unfort­u­na­te­ly we had 3 days of bad wea­ther. We would repeat the hike at any time in good weather. 

A short reflec­tion on our Lech­weg hike that we did from 18-09-2020 to 25-09-2020 . It was a nice hike, in this time (late sum­mer) still good to do. The length of the stages was good, the hotels could be rea­ched in time . The stages were varied. We exten­ded stage 5 by choo­sing our own rou­te to get abo­ve the tree line again (Wind­egg, Alpen­ro­sen­steig). The stage Stanz­ach-Wäng­le was a litt­le less inte­res­t­ing, in this stage the hiking trails were often and a long stretch was cover­ed with gra­vel, so it was ‘making kilo­me­ters’. Unfort­u­na­te­ly we could­n’t do the last stage as the wea­ther had beco­me very bad, but for­t­u­na­te­ly the public trans­port is good, so that we were able to reach Füs­sen wit­hout any pro­blems. Hotels were all very good. Spa­cious rooms, fri­end­ly staff, exten­si­ve break­fasts. One was very remar­kab­le, the Gehr­ner­hof, we had a very good recep­ti­on, the hos­tess coo­ked for us, alt­hough she nor­mal­ly does not cook for guests on Sun­day. The next mor­ning the break­fast was very rich, we could also put tog­e­ther our packed lun­ches wit­hout any pro­blem . To go brief­ly to , very good memo­ries of this hiking trip. Ano­ther remark about the maps. At a sports store in Lech we found an A3 copy of the map (copy of Kom­pass map) with details that are not on the Lepo­rel­lo hiking map. On it we found, for exam­p­le, the cir­cu­lar hike to Stei­ner­nes Meer at the top of For­ma­rin See. The map was also very useful for the first few days at Lech­lei­ten. The ser­vice book­let for the Lech­weg (sent to you by ) also pro­vi­ded a lot of extra infor­ma­ti­on in the rou­te sug­ges­ti­ons (Lech loops). 

Over­all, it was a very nice hike, which took place in ide­al wea­ther con­di­ti­ons. The tour is varied and some­ti­mes chal­len­ging, but, at least in good and dry wea­ther con­di­ti­ons, not too deman­ding. The chall­enge increa­ses signi­fi­cant­ly on damp paths and root paths in steep ter­rain. The accom­mo­da­ti­on was good, some, e.g. the Gehr­ner­hof and the LechLi­fe, even very good. You have to live with the fact that you don’t always get the best room and the best break­fast spot as a solo tra­ve­ler. Break­fast was varied and very good throug­hout, packed lun­ches were not available ever­y­whe­re. The sup­p­ly of drinks in the hotels, i.e. water for the hiking day, could be bet­ter. Howe­ver, you could usual­ly find what you nee­ded in the nea­rest super­mar­ket. The sign­pos­ting of the Lech­weg was very good in Aus­tria, but not so good in Füs­sen (too many loops and side rou­tes). The last steep sec­tion of the path to and from the Kal­va­ri­en­berg was in very poor con­di­ti­on in places. I had hoped for the long stage to Füs­sen to be more rela­xed. My (admit­ted­ly chil­dish) anti­ci­pa­ti­on of the cer­ti­fi­ca­te and the Lech­weg pin in the last hotel was not ful­fil­led. All in all, it was a very nice week of hiking, which was favor­ed by ide­al wea­ther conditions. 

Very beau­tiful and varied hike from the high moun­ta­ins to the foot­hills of the Alps. cha­rac­te­ristics: From some­what more deman­ding moun­tain clim­bing to easy hiking trails, the Stanz­ach-Wäng­le rou­te along the Lech can beco­me some­what mono­to­no­us, ever­y­thing is available. Rou­te lengths are o.k. With seve­ral detours, we hik­ed con­sider­a­b­ly more than the 125 km indi­ca­ted. No pro­blem for nor­mal­ly expe­ri­en­ced hikers. Good sign­pos­ting. We only nee­ded the map in the evening for pre-plan­ning: All good. We would book pri­va­te accom­mo­da­ti­on imme­dia­te­ly. If you are lucky enough to stay at the Gehr­ner­hof, be sure to call the day befo­re and order din­ner. The farm is very impres­si­ve and the din­ner that Lies­beth con­ju­res up the­re is an expe­ri­ence. Lug­ga­ge trans­fer work­ed ever­y­whe­re. Minus: The Lech-Aktiv card, which is actual­ly issued by every hotel along the Lech, is not always available. With it, various ser­vices along the rou­te are free of char­ge (cable cars, bus rides etc.) On the day of arri­val in Lech, whe­re you just have a look around, we would have had almost all the cable cars free of char­ge and our com­pa­n­ion took the bus one day becau­se of knee pro­blems. Unfort­u­na­te­ly, this was only pos­si­ble for a fee and our boo­ked half-board did not work ever­y­whe­re. This was annoy­ing con­side­ring the high restau­rant pri­ces in Lech. Spea­king of half-board, despi­te the fact that it did­n’t work at the first three hotels, the pri­ce-per­for­mance ratio was good over­all and the food was always very good: We park­ed our car in Füs­sen for a reasonable pri­ce in the par­king lot at the Fest­spiel­hal­le (P8). Ins­tead of chan­ging buses, we took a cab from Füs­sen to Lech, which is not that expen­si­ve for two peo­p­le minus the bus fare. The advan­ta­ge is that you are picked up from the par­king lot and drop­ped off at the desti­na­ti­on hotel, so be sure to take insect repel­lent with you. As soon as the path goes direct­ly along the Lech and the­re may be catt­le pas­tu­res near­by, you will be lite­ral­ly eaten by mos­qui­toes and hor­se­flies. The advan­ta­ge of this is that you are much quicker on the trail. The­re is ever­y­thing you need as a natu­re lover who also wants to be a bit com­for­ta­ble on the trail. We would do it again in a heart­beat and the exten­si­on in Füs­sen was well worth it. 

My wife and I hik­ed from Wed­nes­day 14.08.2019 to Wed­nes­day 22.08.2019 from Lech to Füs­sen wit­hout lug­ga­ge. Accom­mo­da­ti­on: all good, note: over­night stay at Gehr­ner­hof very impres­si­ve and we lik­ed it best.
