This 12-day tour takes you from Munich along the Bava­ri­an Way of St. James to Lake Con­s­tance. You will be accom­pa­nied by spec­ta­cu­lar land­scapes, Bava­ri­an hos­pi­ta­li­ty and Swa­bi­an charm bet­ween the foot­hills of the Alps and Lake Con­s­tance. You can also visit the num­e­rous churches, monas­te­ries and other sights at any time. Whe­ther you are a pil­grim or a long-distance hiker, if you enjoy cove­ring long distances in won­derful sur­roun­dings and want to get as clo­se to natu­re as pos­si­ble, then this hiking adven­ture is just right for you!

Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val in Munich
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val at the start­ing hotel in Munich. If you arri­ve ear­ly, use the time to explo­re the capi­tal of the Free Sta­te of Bavaria. 
Day 2
Munich — Schäftlarn 
Distanz: 21 km Höhe (+): 160m Höhe (-): 120m
The start­ing point of your adven­ture and start­ing point of the Munich Way of St. James is the Jakobs­kir­che, one of the oldest monas­te­ries in Munich. You lea­ve Munich hea­ding south along the banks of the Isar. Past Hel­la­brunn Zoo, initi­al­ly with a view of Munich’s buil­dings and through the Isar mea­dows, your rou­te leads to Schäft­larn Monas­tery with its famous monas­tery restau­rant and beer garden. 
Day 3
Schäft­larn Andechs 
Distanz: 29 km Höhe (+): 400m Höhe (-): 300m
Today you have a long but equal­ly beau­tiful stage of the pil­grimage rou­te ahead of you. You lea­ve Schäft­larn behind you, reach the Isar escarp­ment and final­ly Eben­hau­sen. The path then winds its way through forest land­scapes to the impres­si­ve Lake Starn­berg. Final­ly, the trail con­ti­nues through the Mai­sin­ger Gor­ge and via Asche­ring to Andechs. 
Day 4
Andechs Die­ßen am Ammer­see Wessobrunn
Distanz: 25 km Höhe (+): 250m Höhe (-): 240m
Your third stage first takes you down to the pic­tures­que shores of the unspoilt Ammer­see to Herr­sching and by boat to Die­ßen. The short trip takes 30 minu­tes. You then tra­vel through lush mea­dows and hil­ly coun­try­si­de to Wes­so­brunn, one of the abso­lu­te high­lights of this trip. 
Day 5
Wes­so­brunn Peiting 
Distanz: 22 km Höhe (+): 440m Höhe (-): 420m
Breath­ta­king Alpi­ne pan­ora­mas and gre­at views of the sur­roun­ding lakes await you on this stage. The first major desti­na­ti­on is Pei­ßen­berg, a pic­tures­que vil­la­ge in the midd­le of the famous Pfaf­fen­win­kel regi­on bet­ween the Loi­sach and Lech rivers. The Hohe Pei­ßen­berg is very clo­se by. Tho­se who are not afraid of the climb will be reward­ed with an Alpi­ne back­drop. Your desti­na­ti­on for the day, Peit­ing, is now 12 km away. 
Day 6
Bad Bay­er­soi­en — Lechbruck
Distanz: 25 km Höhe (+): 270m Höhe (-): 330m
In the mor­ning, a trans­fer will take you to Bad Bay­er­soi­en. From the­re, you set off in a north-wes­ter­ly direc­tion through the Ammer­gau Alps Natu­re Park. After around 3 km, you cross the Ammer gor­ge via the Echels­bach bridge. In the vil­la­ge of Schön­egg, you can enjoy the view once again befo­re tur­ning back onto the ori­gi­nal Way of St. James. The rou­te con­ti­nues through the vil­la­ge of Wild­steig, whe­re you then have a won­derful view of Lake Wild­steig. You will soon reach the famous Wies­kir­che church with its pil­grimage muse­um. The rou­te con­ti­nues through the Wies­filz to the vil­la­ge of Schlö­gel­müh­le near Stein­ga­den. Now it’s ano­ther 7 km in a wes­ter­ly direc­tion to your desti­na­ti­on for today in Lech­bruck am See. 
Day 7
Lech­bruck — Marktoberdorf
Distanz: 25 km Höhe (+): 480m Höhe (-): 490m
From the for­mer raf­ting vil­la­ge of Lech­bruck, the rou­te now con­ti­nues in a north-wes­ter­ly direc­tion into the All­gäu. You pass Echer­schwang befo­re rea­ching the vil­la­ge of Bern­beu­ren after approx. 6.5 km. The rou­te con­ti­nues over the pan­o­r­amic 1055m high Auer­berg with its Roman ram­parts to the vil­la­ge of Stöt­ten below. From here, the trail con­ti­nues in a nor­t­her­ly direc­tion to Ber­tolds­ho­fen. You cross the small river Gelt­nach and from the­re it is about 5 kilo­me­ters to Marktoberdorf. 
Day 8
Markt­ober­dorf — Kempten
Distanz: 31 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 390m
Today’s stage is the lon­gest of your trip at approx. 31 km. Start ear­ly and take ple­nty of pro­vi­si­ons with you. The rou­te runs most­ly in a wes­ter­ly direc­tion. In Thal­ho­fen you cross the Wertach and reach Gei­sen­ried. Along the Mucken­berg you final­ly reach Obert­hin­gau. You now run through the forest for around 9 kilo­me­ters befo­re you can now see the foot­hills of the All­gäu metro­po­lis of Kemp­ten. Today’s desti­na­ti­on is on the wes­tern edge of the town near the swim­ming pool. 
Day 9
Kemp­ten — Weitnau
Distanz: 30 km Höhe (+): 660m Höhe (-): 550m
Today, the trail leads over the Maria­berg to Ermen­gerst and Buchen­berg. Now you walk in a loop around the Gun­del­bühl and cross the FFH area of the moors in the Wier­lin­ger Wald forest. The trail now runs along a ridge on a kind of high pla­teau abo­ve the B12 through the forest befo­re des­cen­ding via Son­nen­eck short­ly befo­re Weit­nau. Trans­fer from Weit­nau to your accom­mo­da­ti­on in Isny or Missen-Wilhams. 
Day 10
Weit­nau — Wei­ler im Allgäu
Distanz: 30 km Höhe (+): 570m Höhe (-): 730m
Trans­fer from your accom­mo­da­ti­on to Weit­nau in the mor­ning. From here, the rou­te heads slight­ly uphill in a sou­t­her­ly direc­tion along­side the ski slo­pe. Keep right at the Höl­lan­ger refu­ge and fol­low the path to Wil­hams. Then cross the road until you reach the vil­la­ge of Aigis. The rou­te now runs through the All­gäu­er Molas­se­to­bel FFH area to Gerats­ried. In bet­ween, won­derful view­points invi­te you to take a short break. Pas­sing seve­ral small vil­la­ges, you final­ly pass through the vil­la­ge of Wei­ler-Sim­mer­berg and tack­le the last approx. 3 km to Wei­ler im Allgäu. 
Day 11
Wei­ler im All­gäu — Lindau
Distanz: 29 km Höhe (+): 430m Höhe (-): 660m
The last stage beg­ins via Bre­men­ried to the Alten­burg ruins. Pas­sing many small cha­pels, you reach Scheid­egg and the famous Scheid­egg water­falls. The trail des­cends to Nie­der­stau­fen, from whe­re it takes a south-wes­ter­ly cour­se and the last approx. 15 km lead clo­se to the bor­der with Vor­arl­berg through Schlach­ters and the Wei­ßens­ber­ger Hal­de to the out­skirts of Lin­dau and final­ly to the island of the same name in Lake Constance. 
Day 12
Indi­vi­du­al Departure
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Today it’s time to say good­bye to Lake Con­s­tance or you can stay a litt­le longer.

Get­ting There
By car: Munich is one of the busie­st cities in Ger­ma­ny and is very easy to reach by high­way. Howe­ver, traf­fic jams are often to be expec­ted at the ends of the high­ways. Sin­ce Octo­ber 1, 2010, stric­ter envi­ron­men­tal zone regu­la­ti­ons have been in force: only cars with yel­low and green sti­ckers are allo­wed to dri­ve within the Mitt­le­rer Ring; vehic­les with red sti­ckers are pro­hi­bi­ted. TRAIN: Tra­vel to Munich Cen­tral Sta­ti­on in a rela­xed man­ner. From here you can reach your hotel by S‑Bahn or U‑Bahn. PLANE: The second lar­gest air­port in Ger­ma­ny (MUC) is easy to reach from anywhere. 
Natu­re of the Tour
The Way of St. James often fol­lows local and natio­nal sign­pos­ted hiking trails. In rare cases, streams have to be crossed, which is why a cer­tain degree of sure­foo­ted­ness is requi­red. The Munich Way of St. James does not pre­sent any tech­ni­cal dif­fi­cul­ties. Howe­ver, due to the enorm­ous length of the stages, very good stami­na is requi­red. The paths are gene­ral­ly well sign­pos­ted, alt­hough mar­kings may be obscu­red or miss­ing in some places. 
Return trans­fer
You are wel­co­me to book our orga­ni­zed return trans­fer to Munich. Or you can take the train back in 2–3 hours. 
Par­king
The Hotel Bau­er (Kid­ler­str. 32) offers par­king spaces for the dura­ti­on of your trip for approx. EUR 7 per day and vehic­le. You must book the par­king spaces direct­ly at the hotel in advan­ce. You will find fur­ther par­king spaces in par­king gara­ges in Munich. 
Other Infor­ma­ti­on
To ensu­re a stress-free start to your trip, we gene­ral­ly recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening. Some tours begin as ear­ly as noon; in tho­se cases, we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re. We’d be hap­py to book an extra night for you right away. Your indi­vi­du­al return trip takes place on the last day of the trip. The distances lis­ted are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al distances tra­ve­led. This trip is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with limi­t­ed mobility. 
Mini­mum num­ber of participants
