Feuer und Eis partner tour

Via Claudia Augusta — From Augsburg to Bolzano: sporty

from 1.259,- per person

The cycle path leads through the local recreation area of the Augsburg Forest along the Lech river through the botanical treasure trove of the Lechtal heaths to Schongau. The silhouette of the Bavarian Alps rises up in the distance, occasionally shrouded in a delicate veil. Past the Lech Falls in Füssen, the cycle path follows the Lech into the Tyrolean Außerfern. The veil falls and the rugged elegance of the Lechtal Alps and the Zugspitze massif flank the cycle path as far as the Erwalder Becken, a protected moorland area in whose subsoil parts of a Roman beating road* of the Via Claudia Augusta have been preserved. From Biberwier, an organized transfer takes you to Fernsteinsee Castle and the cycle path takes you through the picturesque Gurgltal valley into the Upper Inntal valley to Landeck. A sporty, serpentine ascent of approx. 700 meters in altitude awaits you between Pfunds and Nauders on the Reschen Pass. From Lake Reschen in South Tyrol, the Adige cycle path leads along the playful river through the lush Vinschgau fruit-growing landscapes to the spa town of Merano. Southern flair is exuded by the vineyards that nestle in sweeping lines around Lake Kaltern and idyllically embrace the biotope. In the lively trading town of Bolzano, you can reflect on your cycle tour with a relaxing chill-out aperitif in Piazza Walther.

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Individual arrival in Augsburg
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
A guest in the Roman provincial capital Augusta Vindelicorum
Day 2
Augsburg — Schongau region
Distanz: 85 km Höhe (+): 830m Höhe (-): 588m
The name of the city of Augsburg goes back to the Roman provincial capital Augusta Vindelicorum, which was founded in 15 BC under Emperor Augustus. However, Augsburg became known as the “Fugger City”. A visit to the Fuggerei, the oldest social housing in the world still in use today, is almost a must. On the way to Schongau, you should definitely pay a visit to the district town of Landsberg am Lech. This town really has charm. Schongau itself boasts a picturesque old town and an almost completely preserved town wall.
Day 3
Schongau region — Reutte nature park region
Distanz: 55 km Höhe (+): 656m Höhe (-): 540m
From Schongau, the route continues along the Lech towards Tyrol and thus towards the mighty Alpine arc. Even before the Austrian border, the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein awaits its visitors near Füssen.
Day 4
Reutte — Landeck Nature Park Region
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 588m Höhe (-): 517m
Shortly after Reutte, a climb leads up to the Ehrenberger Klause, a fortress dating back to the Thirty Years’ War that is well worth seeing. From Biberwier, you can take the Via Claudia piggyback bus to cover the rather challenging route over the Fernpass. From Fernstein Castle, you then cycle on via Nassereith through the picturesque Gurgltal valley. A beery experience awaits you in Tarrenz at Starkenberg Castle with its traditional private brewery. From Imst, you finally cycle along the Inn cycle path to the district capital of Landeck.
Day 5
Landeck — Lake Reschen and Upper Vinschgau vacation region
Distanz: 85 km Höhe (+): 1356m Höhe (-): 1221m
Alongside the Inn, the cycle path leads from Landeck along the so-called Upper Court to Pfunds. After Pfunds, the route is about 10 kilometers on Swiss territory. From Martina in the Lower Engadine, you have to cycle about 400 meters in altitude along a few serpentines up to Norbertshöhe. After a short downhill section down to Nauders, a gentle ascent continues up to the Reschen Pass, where you cross the border into Italy and thus the main Alpine ridge. Past the Reschen reservoir with one of the most famous photo motifs in South Tyrol — the sunken church tower of Altgraun — you cycle rapidly downhill towards Mals. Enjoy your first evening in South Tyrol in the old alleyways of the village.
Day 6
Vacation region Lake Resia and Upper Venosta Valley — Merano
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 10m Höhe (-): 700m
Now it’s time to cross the entire Vinschgau Valley. The trail leads from around 1,200 m above sea level in Burgeis down to 350 m above sea level in Meran. You often follow the course of the Adige directly. From the starting point, this pleasure tour first leads down to Glurns, the smallest town in the Alps. Via the marble village of Lasa/Laas you then reach Naturno/Naturns and finally — past the striking Castelbello/Kastelbell Castle — the spa town of Merano/Meran. Relax here on an evening stroll along the Passer promenade amidst a subtropical world of plants.
Day 7
Merano — Bolzano via the Lake Caldaro region
Distanz: 70 km Höhe (+): 381m Höhe (-): 468m
There are many amazing sights along this route: the famous Schnatterpeck altar in the church in Niederlana, the highest church tower in South Tyrol in Terlan and numerous castles and ruins on both sides of the valley. The ripened and exquisitely processed fruit from the vineyards along the South Tyrolean Wine Road is also a real treat for the palate. Enjoy a good glass of wine at Lake Kaltern or at one of the two wildly romantic Monticolo lakes or, to round off your trip, at the vibrant Piazza Walther in the center of Bolzano.
Day 8
