Feuer und Eis partner tour

Via Claudia Augusta — From Füssen to Lake Garda: sporty

from 1.169,- per person

Your transalpine cycle tour begins in Füssen, at the foot of the Ammergebirge mountains and idyllically situated by the Forggenstausee reservoir. Past the Füssen Lech Falls, the cycle route follows the natural Lech river into the Tyrolean Alps. The rugged elegance of the Lechtal Alps and the Zugspitze massif flank the cycle path as far as the Erwalder Becken, a protected moorland area where parts of a Roman beating road of the Via Claudia Augusta have been preserved. From Biberwier, an organized transfer takes you to Fernsteinsee Castle and the cycle path takes you through the picturesque Gurgltal valley into the Upper Inntal valley to Landeck. A sporty, serpentine ascent of approx. 700 meters in altitude awaits you between Pfunds and Nauders on the Reschen Pass. From Lake Reschen in South Tyrol, the Adige cycle path leads along the playful river through the lush Vinschgau fruit-growing landscapes to the spa town of Merano. The vineyards already exude a southern flair, following the sweeping lines of the landscape and seamlessly connecting the South Tyrolean lowlands with Trentino. Another stone’s throw through the fertile Vallagarina and with a brilliant panorama of the deep blue Lake Garda, you cycle towards your stage destination of Riva del Garda.

Itinerary / Stages

Individual journey to Füssen
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
King Ludwig II and his fairytale castles welcome you warmly.
Füssen — Landeck
Distanz: 75 km Höhe (+): 1042m Höhe (-): 1151m
Castles and fortresses line the route today — the castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau send you on your way to tackle an easily manageable climb up to the Ehrenberger Klause/ Ehrenberg castle ruins shortly after Reutte. From there, the route continues through the Tyrolean Außerfern to Biberwier, from where we take you on a comfortable transfer over the Fernpass. From Fernstein Castle, you then cycle via Nassereith through the picturesque Gurgltal valley to Imst. From Imst you cycle along the Inn cycle path to the district capital Landeck.
Landeck — Holiday region Reschensee and Obervinschgau
Distanz: 85 km Höhe (+): 1356m Höhe (-): 1221m
Alongside the Inn, the cycle path leads from Landeck along the so-called Upper Court to Pfunds. After Pfunds, the route is about 10 kilometers on Swiss territory. From Martina in the Lower Engadine, you have to cycle about 400 meters in altitude along a few serpentines up to Norbertshöhe. After a short downhill section down to Nauders, a gentle ascent continues up to the Reschen Pass, where you cross the border into Italy and thus the main Alpine ridge. Past the Reschen reservoir with one of the most famous photo motifs in South Tyrol — the sunken church tower of Altgraun — you cycle rapidly downhill towards Mals.
Vacation region Lake Resia and Upper Venosta Valley — Merano
Distanz: 65 km Höhe (+): 10m Höhe (-): 700m
Now it’s time to cross the entire Vinschgau Valley. The trail leads from around 1,200 m above sea level in Burgeis down to 350 m above sea level in Meran. You often follow the course of the Adige directly. From the starting point, this pleasure tour first leads down to Glurns, the smallest town in the Alps. Via the marble village of Lasa/Laas you then reach Naturno/Naturns and finally — past the striking Castelbello/Kastelbell Castle — the spa town of Merano/Meran. Relax here on an evening stroll along the Passer promenade amidst a subtropical world of plants.
Merano — Castelfeder vacation region
Distanz: 50 km Höhe (+): 264m Höhe (-): 347m
There is much to marvel at along this route: the famous Schnatterpeck altar in the church in Niederlana, the highest church tower in South Tyrol in Terlan and numerous castles and ruins on both sides of the valley. After the opportunity for a short detour to South Tyrol’s capital Bolzano, Lake Kaltern offers a first-class opportunity to cool off any tired cyclists’ legs. The stage finish is then the Castelfeder vacation region with the towns of Ora, Montan, Egna and Salorno, where the German-speaking part of South Tyrol ends.
Castelfeder vacation region — Lake Garda (Riva del Garda/Torbole sul Garda)
Distanz: 80 km Höhe (+): 486m Höhe (-): 635m
You should already have practiced some basic Italian vocabulary before the journey continues along the Adige River to Trento, where you will be greeted by the old town with its cathedral and Buonconsiglio Castle, which is well worth seeing. The last few kilometers of your sporty journey then continue to Rovereto, before leaving the Adige River at Mori and turning off towards Lake Garda. After a short ascent to the Passo San Giovanni (287 m), the descent to Torbole and then further along the lake shore to Riva del Garda follows with a fantastic view.
Individual journey home or extension
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Today it’s time to say goodbye, or you can simply extend your stay by a few days of relaxation.
