On your hiking week along the old Roman road Via Clau­dia Augus­ta, you will dis­co­ver one of the most beau­tiful sec­tions of South Tyrol bet­ween the Vinsch­gau Val­ley and the sou­thern Wine Road, which will make every hiker’s heart beat fas­ter. The start is framed by magni­fi­cent moun­tain pan­ora­mas and views of the snow-cover­ed Ort­ler mas­sif on the famous Lake Reschen. On won­derful high-alti­tu­de paths high abo­ve the fer­ti­le Vinsch­gau Val­ley, your rou­te leads you towards Mer­ano. Enjoy the view of magni­fi­cent viney­ards and orchards, num­e­rous cast­les and palaces along the way, inclu­ding Rein­hold Mess­ner’s Moun­tain Muse­um. The Medi­ter­ra­ne­an spa town of Merano/Meran is the per­fect place to relax in the ther­mal springs.

Arri­ve at the his­to­ric Roman Alpi­ne crossing and explo­re the sur­roun­ding area. 
Reschen/surroundings — Burgeis/Mals
Distanz: 21 km Höhe (+): 200m Höhe (-): 550m
First of all, a lei­su­re­ly ride along Lake Reschen, whe­re the for­mer church tower in the dam­med lake offers one of the most pho­to­gra­phed motifs in the Vinsch­gau Val­ley. Pas­sing Lake Hai­der­see, the rou­te runs along the lar­gest scree cone in the Alps and final­ly leads you up to the idyl­lic moun­tain vil­la­ge of Plan­eil. Downhill through the forest and later across flowe­ring mea­dows to Bur­geis, with a view of the impres­si­ve Mari­en­berg monastery. 
Burgeis/Mals — Schluderns
Distanz: 10 km Höhe (+): 100m Höhe (-): 350m
Hike along the Son­nen­steig, a magni­fi­cent Waal­weg trail with fan­ta­stic views of the snow-cover­ed moun­tain peaks. High abo­ve Malles/Mals with its mul­ti-towe­red vil­la­ge cen­ter, the trail leads over the Tartscher Bichl past ‑Ganglegg‑, the his­to­ri­cal excava­ti­on site from the Bron­ze and Iron Ages to Schluderns/Schluderns, with the migh­ty and well-pre­ser­ved Chur­burg Castle. 
Slu­der­no — Silandro
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 550m Höhe (-): 750m
Your stage beg­ins at the foot of the Sonn­berg through a lar­ge­ly den­se­ly woo­ded area. Abo­ve Lasa/Laas, famous for its white marb­le, you later immer­se yours­elf in the orchards of the Ven­os­ta Val­ley — apple trees as far as the eye can see. 
Silan­dro — Natur­no / Surroundings
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 350m Höhe (-): 550m
This stage takes you along sun­ny moun­tain slo­pes abo­ve the fer­ti­le Vinsch­gau Val­ley. Along the Lat­schand­er Waal­weg, you hike through the are­as whe­re the best South Tyro­lean wines are grown. Con­ti­nue up to Mess­ner’s Juval Cast­le or take a lei­su­re­ly stroll along the Vinsch­gau Wine Trail down into the val­ley to Naturns. 
Naturns / Sur­roun­dings — Merano
Distanz: 19 km Höhe (+): 400m Höhe (-): 600m
High up on the pan­o­r­amic trail through forests, past moun­tain farms, always accom­pa­nied by a fan­ta­stic view of the Ven­os­ta Val­ley. Fol­lo­wing the Partschin­ser and Algun­der Waal­weg trails, you hike down to the Medi­ter­ra­ne­an spa town of Meran. Relax your tired lim­bs with a dip in the ther­mal baths.

Additional information

Tour cha­rac­ter
You hike main­ly on good, paved hiking trails, often also along the irri­ga­ti­on chan­nels, the old irri­ga­ti­on sys­tems and on asphal­ted sec­tions. The paths are easy to fol­low and the rou­te takes you on a gent­ly undu­la­ting path through a beau­tiful land­scape dot­ted with fruit trees and viney­ards. Some stee­per clim­bs have to be mas­te­red on some days. We recom­mend a good basic fit­ness level for hikes of up to 6 hours. Stages can be shor­ten­ed at any time by train/bus.
Arri­val / Parking 
Tra­vel by train to Lan­deck and from the­re by bus to Reschen, dura­ti­on approx. 1.5 hours. Or by train via Bolzano/Bozen and Merano/Meran to Malles/Mals and from the­re by bus to Resia/Reschen, dura­ti­on approx. 30 minu­tes Inns­bruck or Bolzano/Bozen air­port Par­king: Hotel par­king lots, cos­ts 6,- to 15,- per day or 70,- per week. Public par­king lot, cos­ts approx. 70,- per week Depar­tu­re by bus and train from Meran to Reschen, dura­ti­on approx. 2 hours with 1x chan­ge in Mals 
Return jour­ney
INDIVIDUAL: Return jour­ney from Meran by Vinsch­gau­bahn in approx. 1.5 hours to Mals and from the­re in approx. 30 minu­tes to Reschen. ORGANIZED: Return trans­fer by mini­bus to Reschen (only SA/SO/MO), cost per per­son 89,-, cost per dog 45,-. Reser­va­ti­on requi­red, paya­ble in advance.
Half board
Opti­on to book 6 x half board. 199 EUR per per­son. Din­ner most­ly mul­ti-cour­se, part­ly out­side the accom­mo­da­ti­on with value voucher. 
Other notes
To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. This tour is not sui­ta­ble for peo­p­le with redu­ced mobility.

If a mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is requi­red for the tour to take place, this is sta­ted under Pri­ces and ser­vices. If the mini­mum num­ber of par­ti­ci­pan­ts is not rea­ched, we reser­ve the right to can­cel the trip up to four weeks befo­re the date of arri­val. We recom­mend that you do not orga­ni­ze your arri­val and depar­tu­re until after this dead­line has passed.
