Win­ter Dream at Lake Tegern­see: A Short Geta­way at the Gäs­te­haus zum Bock­we­ber in Rottach-Egern

A short trip through the Tegern­see Val­ley fea­turing the region’s win­ter hiking high­lights! Fresh­ly fal­len snow adorns the popu­lar Tegern­see Val­ley hiking regi­on, making the mea­dows, forests, and the idyl­lic lake spark­le in com­pe­ti­ti­on with one ano­ther! Hike through idyl­lic flood­plain land­scapes, stun­ning pan­o­r­amic high-alti­tu­de trails, and the moun­ta­ins with the best views around the lake. At the alpi­ne huts, Bava­ri­an deli­ca­ci­es await to refuel you. After many tours with incre­di­ble views, enjoy a cozy glass of mull­ed wine in the evening by the roman­ti­cal­ly shim­me­ring lake. During the tour, you’ll also expe­ri­ence local food pro­duc­tion with a visit to the ducal fish farm and the Tegern­seer Land natu­ral cheese dairy. You’ll set out direct­ly from your lodging—on foot, by bus, or via transfer—and in some cases using our shut­tle service. 

Itinerary / Stages

Day 1
Indi­vi­du­al arri­val — A bir­d’s eye view of the win­try Tegern­see valley
Distanz: 7 km Höhe (+): 120m Höhe (-): 120m
Use the day to arri­ve or enjoy a pan­o­r­amic hike on the Tegern­see High Trail today. At the end, the famous Bräu­st­überl awaits you with regio­nal deli­ca­ci­es, a cast­le back­drop and a view of the lake. The spor­ty opti­on takes you fur­ther up via the popu­lar Berg­gast­hof Neu­reuth with a magni­fi­cent view of the Tegern­see valley. 
Day 2
Up the mys­ti­cal Rie­der­stein with its impres­si­ve rock chapel
Distanz: 8 km Höhe (+): 440m Höhe (-): 430m
The trail clim­bs stee­p­ly uphill on a well-main­tai­ned hiking trail. Gre­at views of the lake are a con­stant sur­pri­se along the way. Once you arri­ve at the Galaun inn, you fol­low an idyl­lic stair­way to the Rie­der­stein with one of the most beau­tiful views of Lake Tegern­see. The free-stan­ding cha­pel on a rocky out­crop is a par­ti­cu­lar­ly fasci­na­ting place to take a break. On the way back, you can stop off at Gast­hof Galaun befo­re con­ti­nuing on a cir­cu­lar rou­te through woods, mea­dows and a beau­tiful view­point to the cen­ter of Tegern­see, whe­re you have ear­ned a hear­ty snack and a good Tegern­see beer in the Her­zog­li­ches Bräustüberl. 
Day 3
From the ducal fish farm Wild­bad Kreuth through the natu­ral para­di­se of the Weiß­ach floodplains 
Distanz: 10 km Höhe (+): 90m Höhe (-): 20m
Relax on this easy stage in the tran­quil set­ting of snow-cover­ed forests and the crys­tal-clear river ador­ned with ici­c­les. In the mor­ning, a trans­fer takes you to the Sie­ben­hüt­ten hiking par­king lot. You then hike past the ducal fish farm and on to the Hanns Seidl Foun­da­ti­on, which is stee­ped in histo­ry. A litt­le later, you hike idyl­li­cal­ly down­stream accom­pa­nied by the rus­hing Weiß­ach and through the Weiß­ach flood­plains. If you wish, you can later branch off to the Tegern­seer Land natu­ral cheese dairy, whe­re you can stock up on regio­nal pro­ducts as sou­ve­nirs, enjoy cof­fee and cake and take a gui­ded tour of the dairy if you wish. 
Day 4
Indi­vi­du­al depar­tu­re — Auer­alm tour in the face of the sur­roun­ding sum­mit world
Distanz: 14 km Höhe (+): 550m Höhe (-): 550m
Today it’s time to say good­bye to the Tegern­see val­ley. If you have time befo­re your depar­tu­re, hike from Bad Wies­see through snow-cover­ed forests to the rustic Auer­alm. On the sun ter­race, let your gaze wan­der over the snow-cover­ed moun­ta­ins and enjoy Bava­ri­an deli­ca­ci­es. You return via a cir­cu­lar route.

To ensu­re a stress-free start to the trip, we recom­mend arri­ving at the start­ing point by ear­ly evening in most cases. Some tours start as ear­ly as mid­day, in which case we recom­mend arri­ving the day befo­re and will be hap­py to book an extra night for you at the same time. The indi­vi­du­al return jour­ney takes place on the last day of the tour. The kilo­me­ters are appro­xi­ma­te and may dif­fer from the actu­al kilo­me­ters cover­ed. BY CAR: FROM THE NORTH: Take the A8 Munich-Salz­burg high­way to the Holz­kir­chen exit and then the B318/B307 to Tegern­see. FROM THE SOUTH: Eit­her via the Inn Val­ley, the Achen Pass and the B307 or the Inn Val­ley high­way, the A8 Munich-Salz­burg high­way, to the Irschen­berg exit. Con­ti­nue via the B472 and B318 to Tegern­see. By pla­ne: Munich — Salz­burg — Inns­bruck By train: From Munich main sta­ti­on, take the BRB to Gmund or Tegern­see, bus or cab to the hotel.
