Itinerary / Stages

Individual arrival in Matrei
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
Travel by train to Innsbruck (perfectly accessible by long-distance trains). From there or from Brenner free S‑Bahn connections with the guest card or by car to Matrei am Brenner. Welcome by your host Florian. Dinner and overnight stay at the Parkhotel Matrei.
Stubai Valley Wipptal
Distanz: 12 km Höhe (+): 745m Höhe (-): 700m
You start your crossing in a relaxed manner with a 15-minute organized transfer from your hotel to Mieders in the Stubai Valley. From there, you follow an ancient pilgrimage route uphill. A total of 15 places of worship line the chapel trail and represent the mysteries of the rosary. You can decide for yourself whether you want to follow the chapel trail or take a more leisurely path in between. You will soon realize that almost all paths lead to your destination today, Maria Waldrast. The monastery is not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the oldest and, at 1,638 m, highest places of pilgrimage in the Alps. Alpine hospitality meets breathtaking mountain and natural scenery here, right at the transition from the Stubai Valley to the Wipp Valley. After a short break, you hike down to Matrei to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the Parkhotel Matrei.
Crossing into the Gschnitztal
Distanz: 8 km Höhe (+): 700m Höhe (-): 1000m
After a 10-minute organized transfer, you start your second stage at the Ochsenalm, just below Maria Waldrast. At first gently, then somewhat more steeply, you march in a south-westerly direction through the Lange Tal. After a few minutes, the gravel road turns into a mountain path that leads you over beautiful meadows and through a mountain pine area in a few steep hairpin bends up to the Blaserhütte. From here it is only a few minutes over the grassy ridge up to the Blaser. Back at the Blaserhütte, you have earned a rest before descending to Trins. Here you can follow the forest path down into the valley, which is easy on the knees, or take a shortcut via a path. An organized transfer will take you back to your hotel from the Trins municipal office bus stop. Dinner and overnight stay at the Parkhotel Matrei.
Perfect panoramic summit Eggerberg
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 1175m Höhe (-): 1015m
An organized transfer takes you to Trins, where you continue yesterday’s tour. Gentle paths take you through a beautiful, unspoilt high valley to the Trunahütte. From the hut, you hike further into the valley and then follow the mountain meadows up to the Eggerjoch. From the pass, you climb over the broad south-west ridge to the Eggerberg with its striking summit cross. Here you can enjoy the view back to your first two stages and forward to your upcoming tours. From the summit, follow the high trail to the Lichtsee lake. The lake lies in a wide hollow to the east of the Trunajoch at an altitude of 2,100 m. Let your gaze wander once more to the south to the Brenner mountains, the Tribulaunen and especially the Olperer before descending to Obernberg. From the lake, you have a choice of several routes down to Obernberg. In Obernberg you can enjoy a short break at the Almis Berghotel before your transfer takes you back to Matrei. Dinner and overnight stay at the Parkhotel Matrei.
Route between Italy and Austria
Distanz: 15 km Höhe (+): 1125m Höhe (-): 875m
Your organized transfer will take you back to Obernberg. You hike through the Fradertal valley past rustic Alpine pastures until you climb up to the Flachjoch at the end of the valley. From here, the Jubiläumsweg trail takes you along old border paths between North Tyrol and South Tyrol. After the Wechseljoch and the Kreuzjoch, the Sattelberg with its 2,115 m is your last intermediate destination today. The summit of the Sattelberg lies exactly on the border between Austria and Italy. Before you hike down to the cozy Sattelbergalm, let your gaze wander once again over the Zillertal and Stubai Alps; with a bit of luck, you might even spot a Dolomite peak or two. From here you can also look back on a wonderful week of touring and recognize on the horizon where you started four days earlier. You will celebrate the end of your touring week at the Sattelbergalm, where you will spend the night. Dinner and overnight stay at the Sattelbergalm.
Final: Via Italy back to Matrei
Distanz: 5 km Höhe (+): 85m Höhe (-): 345m
After a hearty Wipptal mountain breakfast at the Sattelbergalm, you first hike towards the Steinalm before following a beautiful, somewhat steeper path down to the Brenner. On the way, you can make a short detour to the Eisack waterfall. Once you arrive at the Brenner Pass, you have a wide choice of bars where you can enjoy a cappuccino or an Italian cold drink after a visit to the Brenner outlet. The S‑Bahn will then take you back to Matrei. Dinner and overnight stay at the Parkhotel Matrei.
Saying goodbye to Tyrol
Distanz: 0 km Höhe (+): 0m Höhe (-): 0m
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye or start your individual extension.
